Developed with PlayStation 2 players in mind, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Jungle Storm will fully exploit the capabilities of the platform with features such as the wildly popular voice command, and voice chat systems plus online statistics tracking and ladder ranking. Most importantly, this game will mark the first time that PlayStation 2 fans can take their great ghost action online and learn firsthand why action-packed online game play quickly established Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon as the most popularly played game on the Xbox LIVE online game service. Deep in the sweltering jungles of Cuba, an insidious revolution is brewing. Led by a drug-funded warlord, its aim is to take advantage of the post-Castro power vacuum and seize control of the island republic. Bogotá, a few months later... While the Cubans revel in their newfound democracy, the Colombian drug cartel that financed the failed revolution has set its sites on a new target. Readying a retaliatory blow against its own American-allied government, the Columbian cartel rocks the capital with severe explosions, including one that severely damages the American embassy. If I can only think of one weak part of the online game, it's that it's only built for 4 on 4. Other than that, this is a great game to have, and a must for any PS2 online gamer.

Every choice you make during play makes a significant difference to how the mission plays out, whether it's which weapons to use or which sandbank to take cover behind, and the only real problem is that the game seems to lack a certain spark of inspiration.

Those who are Ghost Recon fanatics will enjoy this, but those who want to take a look at the series might be better off picking up the original.

Compared to the tight, challenging "Rainbow Six 3," which is also available on the PS2, there’s really nothing Jungle Storm can offer that you haven’t played before. At this point, the Ghost Recon series is definitely the weakest link in the Clancy chain.

The game play has been streamlined for less fussy PS2 players. Plus there’s a single-player mode, where AI teammates respond to 160 voice commands. And the online levels—with up to 16 players barking through headsets simultaneously—is enough to make you postpone your pee break for hours.

It's not perfect, and if you don't have the ability to play online, it's a little brief, but all in all, it's a very competent game. [Mar 2004, p.99]

The heavy use of sniping scopes provides an exciting sense of realism, as do the look, feel of recoil, and reload animations of the guns. [Mar 2004, p.32]

But the landscapes have opened up tremendously, the controls have been tightened, and the graphics have improved and the game play is classic.

Sure, the single-player campaign can be a letdown. Your money's well-spent, however, once you log on and play with other people. [Mar 2004, p.63]

In just about every way, Ghost Recon: Jungle Storm is more of the same: more missions, more multiplayer options, more maps. It’ll satiate the demands of Ghost Recon fans just fine, but all that ‘more’ stuff might not be enough to draw in anyone new.

A solid tactical shooter for PS2 owners, but with Rainbow Six 3 and SOCOM II currently engaging gamers, there are better choices.

Certainly an improvement on its predecessor, but it still lacks the visual punch to offer any competition with the PC or Xbox games.

Ghost Recon was fine tactical infantry sim - back in 2001. This new PS2 version is solid, but it pales when compared to modern juggernauts like "SOCOM II." [Mar 2004, p.83]

There are plenty of problems with the graphics and the lack of an overall feel for the whole game, but with a game that's easy to pick up and play, Jungle Storm provides plenty of sniper and squad action.

But the game’s shoddy visual presentation, rampant recycling and annoying lack of online voice chat are glaring shortcomings that are hard to overlook. Overall, Ghost Recon: Jungle Storm just doesn’t bring anything new to the table or do much to attract new recruits.

At the bargain price it is hard to fault Ghost Recon Jungle Storm because, for the money, it delivers across the board; and the additional missions are welcome. Those waiting for notable improvements will just have to be patient for "Ghost Recon 2."

It all pales when compared to better PS2 military shooters like "SOCOM II." The series is in need of a real sequel, a graphics upgrade, and a new and more refreshing direction if it wants to remain a contender in the tactical military shooter wars.

The blah environments and goofy animation do little to draw you into what's supposed to be a realistic combat experience. Spotty A.I. and clunky controls make it even harder to maintain gung-ho enthusiasm. [March 2004, p.118]

Any half-decent Windows machine will give you a far better range of Ghost Recon goodness for less money. Over here on the PS2, this stand-alone expansion pack just isn't very filling.

SO many problems with this game its glitchy the enemy A.I is stupid your teammates on single player are for use of a better word dumb and well... it works! i love it i have this game and the original for ps2 and playing 2 player with a friend just gets so addictive its strange there is games on the market like rainbow six , socom ect ect that do "on paper" a MUCH better job but they just arnt as much fun to play! notably the best level on this game is the boat yard level when u start u look around the level and smile but then you realise enemys could be lurking litrilly anywhere... which is kool!

HSX gave it a10:
Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant.

S913 gave it an 8:
Don't care much for the single-player part. The multi-player gameplay is superb, only buggy as hell once in a while. Especially the 'Beach Resort' level crashes a lot and soldiers hopping around like faeries. Another turnoff: throwing a grenade and having it hover and explode about a meter from you ... Can't wait for GR2, hope it isn't as buggy. 10 for gameplay 6 for stability.

Accesser37 gave it a 6:
Good Game. It deserves an 8 or 9. The problem is that your AI teamates are dumber than monkeys. They don't shoot and the pathfinding is the wrost I have EVER seen. They get confused by rocks and fences. Don't even think about trying to assualt a building with your team. You might as well do the mission solo.

PJ goodall gave it a 10:
Great follow-up forthe original on PS2. Lots of new and cool features.

Curtis D gave it a 10:
It's f ing impossible to play while ur stoned i always die.
