Gaming Maxx
Quite a[n] addictive and enjoyable game, however, the controls are something to get used to at first.

The nice thing is, unlike FIFA, you don't see the spectacular move all that often, so when you do you really appreciate it even more.

It just might be the FIFA killer. [Feb 2002, p.85]
GameSpot
Places an emphasis on action on the pitch and supplies a few of the gameplay modes that are missing from EA's popular FIFA series.

This game has a lot of catching up to do with regard to little things such as throw-ins, menu options, and length. It also has some big things to work on, namely graphics, sound, and hair, hair, hair!

The vast array of game modes also makes World Tour Soccer last for an extremely long time, maybe even longer than FIFA, as it does contain additional modes and the like.

It's visual splendour; novel yet neat additions and generally tight gameplay will ensure the time until the next ISS goes that little bit quicker, OK I'll admit it I'm hooked.

FIFA handled a little better, but World Tour has a little more depth. FIFA looks a little better, but World Tour has more heart in the animation.

Fast, fun footy with a simulation feel. [Feb 2002, p.114]

The gameplay of WTS however, is superb. Never have I felt so close to real soccer action than with this game. Its that good.

This game is for the serious and possibly hard core soccer fan. Everyone else should just take a seat in the stands and enjoy the action from afar and let the pros go to work.

What really makes the game are the wealth of offensive and defensive maneuvers to choose from.

TIF isnt a complete loss, we just fear that its style of play will suit few novices will be dominated and closed-down by the game, whereas seasoned vets will expect the freedom to pursue a more individualised approach.

The game offers great control and enough fun to make it a worthy competitor.

Occasional slowdown, some seemingly unfair penalties, and sub-par PS2 graphics. [Mar 2002, p.26]

Those who desire the more strict interpretation of European Soccer will find this style more to their liking. Those looking for fast fun gameplay will want to rent first to see if this taste appeals to their tastebuds.

If FIFA isn't quite realistic enough for your taste, WTS should scratch your soccer itch with its tight, sim-style gameplay and solid lineup of features, which includes custom teams, season play, the World Cup, and a variety of other cups.

A new, non-Fifa (i.e. non-totally crap) soccer experience for North American soccer fans and, as I said before, it's not a horrible game - on the lower difficulty levels it's reasonably fun and it also has a ton of teams and competitions.

Paul F. gave it a 7:
If you, like me, find the FIFA series to be too arcady, and are waiting desperatly for Konami to finally give us a full-featured ISS in the States then this game is a decent appetizer. likes some of the polish, and alot of the extra features, but the gameplay itself is much closer to real football than EA.
Mr. B. gave it a 10:
This game is so addicting. The great thing is you never get so good that you can easily beat the computer. Master difficulty is always a challenge, and i still only win about 60% of the time on it. The graphics are great, and the huge amount of teams and players from througout the century is incredible. I definitely recommend this game.
Eric S. gave it an 8:
This game is NOTHING compared to ISS PRO EV 2 for PSONE as far as controls go. can't wait to get my hands on any of the Konami football games.
Daniel C. gave it an 8:
This game is indeed the best game I've played. I am a FIFA lover but lately FIFA has been disapointing me with very little changes done to the new sequels to the game. WTS has almost all the soccer leagues in europe and the game play is quite interesting given you a feel of the real game. WTS should focus more in providing in depth info specially on league mode like top scorers, yellow and red cards, injury list etc.. My suggestion is: go buy this game the best in the market.
Rusty gave it a 9:
I LOVE this game however hates this game must not know how to play the game of soccer. FIFA fans go home. This game takes first prize!!!
Hobbs C. gave it a 5:
Hippy hobo game man, really washed out. I couldn't count to ten before I spaced out. Buy before you rent.
