This over-the-top baseball action title puts an entirely new spin on Major League Baseball as it blends outrageous visuals and intuitive gameplay mechanics to bring fans a brand new MLB video game experience. Fans redefine the baseball highlight reel by performing dramatic wall grabs, spectacular diving plays, and epic homeruns. Unique and intuitive gameplay controls deliver a new baseball experience, while advanced power-up mechanics add exciting depth with each turn. Turbo gameplay raises the action bar, and culminates in the ultimate batter pitcher power-up duel, where either the pitcher's Big Heat will be the turning point, or the batter’s Power Blast will be the explosive end to the game. In The BIGS, every play is a big play. Each MLB player has been individualized to emphasize their extraordinary athletic attributes. The development team paid great attention to detail to portray a player's face and physical characteristics so baseball fans will easily recognize their favorite players. To deliver the authentic MLB atmosphere, stadium landmarks have been stylized to highlight the unique architecture of each MLB ballpark. Whether it's the glove at San Francisco's AT&T Park resized to mammoth proportions or the left field wall in Boston's Fenway Park made into a real "Green Monster," gamers will be in awe at the grandeur of each stadium in The BIGS. It's the nature of arcade sports games to be a fun time, but I didn't expect this one to be so deep. The Bigs has the bells and whistles -- without MLB SlugFest-style BS like punch-throwing or loop-de-loop curves. Thank heavens.

The BIGS is great stuff. It's not imposing -- despite the stature of the players in the game -- it's not overly technical, nor is it terribly shallow. No, the game won't give any baseball sims a run for their money, but it is a blast.

Still, I love how The Bigs has the bells and whistles without the SlugFest-style BS like punch-throwing or loop-de-loop curves. [Aug 2007, p.76]

Gaming Target
The Bigs is a solid arcade styled game that brings fun and even some depth to a sub-genre that tends to offer minimal options to make it worth its asking price.

A baseball video game that will appeal to many casual gamers as well as hardcore baseball guys.

I was surprised to find that 2K Sports actually seemed to have more success this year with their freshman arcade baseball series, which actually comes out as a big success.

It's a little thin on game modes, but the career mode is a kick, as is going head-to-head against a buddy or two. There are far worse ways to spend your summer.

Big strikeouts and even bigger homers make The BIGS a great arcade baseball game.

Extremely accessible and engaging, The Bigs captures the excitement of the big time plays that dominate baseball highlights perfectly.

With a fun Career Mode, online play and an incredibly addictive mini game (Homerun Pinball) round out this enjoyable package that, although it cannot compete against the much deeper MLB 2K franchise, deserves some playtime, if for nothing else than to rob someone of a game winning grand slam.

The intense home runs, stadium interactivity, slow motion passes and hard-hitting slides – that literally thrust one player into another – are a must-see and a must-play.

Gamer 2.0
The Bigs puts tons of great ideas to life to give players a much more fast-paced and turbo induced game of baseball that everyone will surely enjoy. While the fielding and base running could have used a little more fine tuning, the overall package is fun enough for all fans to enjoy a game of baseball without having to labor through hours of gameplay.

The game is a lot of fun, but the blistering difficulty makes the game frustrating at first.

A fun arcade-style sports game that suffers from just enough shortcomings to keep it from being great.

The Bigs delivers engrossing arcade-styled gameplay, but there's little here that you can really wrap your mitt around. [July 2007, p.96]

A proper long-term gameplay mode would've been nice. Rookie Challenge is decent, but some extra meat is needed to justify the price-tag.

It can be a fun game, but it's not exactly baseball. [Oct 2007, p.84]

Games Radar
It’s pretty accessible, with simplistic interfaces and beautiful eye candy all around. But considering that those arcadey enhancements are what’s supposed to make this game unique, we can’t help but feel casual fans would be better off playing MLB 2K7 on easy difficulty.

Evan B. gave it a10:
I was a little skeptical that this game wouldn't be very good when I got it. I'm a fan of arcade games and baseball, so I said "why not"? After 1 game I was hooked! This game gets better with every play-through! I played through the mode where you take your rookie through the Bigs from Spring Training to the World Series, and I seriously played all day long from 7 a.m. to midnight! It really was THAT good! Don't rent it, BUY it! :)

Zack E. gave it a10:
