The PS3 version of the game is just as impressive as the Xbox 360 version and while it doesn’t have split-screen multiplayer, it makes up for this with the Sixaxis functionality.

Treyarch has done an amazing job with this game and has quite possibly constructed one of the best online experiences currently available anywhere.

With a brilliant single player mode that takes you through some great story and dialogue, excellent voice acting and highly realistic graphics, Call of Duty 3 is a must buy for anybody who wants a decent shooter on the PS3.

Great looks gel with genius game design. [Christmas 2006, p.20]
Game Informer
If you own both an Xbox 360 and a PS3, choosing which version of this accomplished WWII shooter to buy comes down to how much you like or dislike the motion-sensing elements.

The game mechanics and general feel of the game are not overly different from what gamers are used to, but that this is brought to such vivid life on a console is a tribute to the diligence of the developers.

The craft behind Call of Duty 3 is impressive. Treyarch deftly handles the stellar design duties passed on from previous developer Infinity Ward. [Jan. 2007, p.74]
Digital Entertainment News
Call of Duty 3 packs in more impressive features than any previous installment: gorgeous graphics and audio, an intense single player campaign, and a wealth of multiplayer options. Even if it isn’t the most original game, Call of Duty 3 is certainly one of the finest.

Considering the lack of key options and the number of glitches, Call of Duty 3 still stands out amongst console first person shooters overall, and the solid multiplayer options even without voice support will give the title life for a long after you complete the single player campaign.

COD3 packs more impressive features than any previous installment: gorgeous graphics and audio, an intense single-player campaign and a wealth of multiplayer options. Even if it isn't the most original WWII game, it's certainly one of the finest.

It’s somewhat unfortunate that it’s not the definitive "best version" out there, as the inconsistent frame rate drops it a bit behind the Xbox 360 version, but that’s okay. It’s not visibly inferior, either, and for the most part, nothing is lacking in the PS3 version. Both are extremely well done, and that’s that.

Take one part classic Call of Duty scripted FPS action, add in two parts improved level design, another one part updated graphics, and just about four parts upgraded multiplayer and you've got the ultimate Call of Duty stew.

Top notch graphics, immersive game play and sound all add up to another solid, but not revolutionary first person shooter.

A great game with thoroughly enjoyable multiplayer, quality presentation, and some mildly-interesting tilt-control support. It is missing a couple of features that its Xbox 360 counterpart contains, and the frame rate is far less reliable in this version, but the overall intensity and playability of Call of Duty 3 remains intact, despite these few issues.

A quality game that packs a similar punch to previous installments, but it's a bit familiar. [Apr 2007, p.59]
Da Gameboyz
If you own a 360, you’d most likely be better off playing that version if you haven’t done so yet.

Call of Duty 3 is easily the best in the series (or at least a tie with "COD2") but the PS3 conversion just doesn’t do it justice. If this is the only next-gen system you have then you should go ahead and play it, but if you own a 360 you’ll have a much better experience, both solo and online.

The visuals are mind-blowing and the sound is simply incredible, especially with the score it has.

A classic Call of Duty game, stubbornly sticking to the well-worn template and format of the previous two titles in the series, but making it all bigger and slicker so you get totally sucked in.

Treyarch's shooter comfortably outdoes "Resistance" as the best FPS on PS3, a spectacular light show of WWII horror underpinned by a rock-solid engine and tight controls. [Apr 2007, p.130]
DarkStation
But if I had a choice between the two, I would have to go with the Xbox 360 version, just because you're going to have a much better online experience that you wouldn't find on the PS3, at least until more people get their units.

Terrific multiplayer fun. [Feb 2007]
PSM Magazine
Yes, Call of Duty 3 has its share of problems, but the action is appropriately intense and cinematic in scope, and the new features are great. [Jan. 2007, p.78]
Deeko
It has a good, fast-paced single player campaign and hearty helpings of multiplayer.

Solid, yes, but familiar. I mean no disrespect for the men that died protecting freedom, but considering I was born a good 30 years after the war ended, familiarity with this setting probably isn't a good thing.

The PS3 version suffers, however. The outstanding visuals shine, but the frame rate has a tendency to jump around.

Building on the already solid (if a little claustrophobic) linear design of previous installments, Call of Duty 3 introduces enough new tidbits to keep even the weariest veterans in the fight.

The PS3 version's weaker graphics and moderately interesting Sixaxis controls come in second to the overall experience on the Xbox 360.

Not quite a classic, then, but Call of Duty 3 can justifiably call itself the best shooter on PS3. Over to you, then "Killzone." [Apr 2007, p.90]
VideoGamer
When the atmosphere and level of action on offer is this great, the fact that I can't wander off to see what's behind a tree half a mile to the East really doesn't bother me.

The structure of the multiplayer modes is much more involved thanks to the class system, making it a worthwhile mode to check out after the 10-hour campaign since it’s more than picking countries and weapons.

The game is extremely action-packed and intense, and has a nice new variety of weapons and vehicles that bring a nice rich depth that adds nicely to a very popular franchise.

Sure it comes up a little short compared to the pacing and overall level design of COD2, but the real crime here is found with all the glitches and other technical problems that make the Normandy Breakout feel more like the Normandy Lockup.

There's no denying that Call of Duty 3 uses the PS3's considerable power to spectacular and dramatic effect, but this just makes it an even bigger shame that it so often gets so many of the basics so very wrong. [Issue 148, p.72]
Cheat Code Central
The only major problem I have with this game is that it has all been done before. If you’ve played several WWII shooters, you won’t find anything really new here.

It's not the best WWII game by any stretch, but it's a damn reliable ride. [Jan. 2007, p.72]
PALGN
Despite the lateness, Call of Duty 3 is a intense and enjoyable shooter for the PS3 but only worth it if you haven't already played another version.

Delivers a solid FPS game and in no way should be overlooked, but as a launch title it just lacks that all-important wow factor. [Mar 2007, p.58]
Gaming Age
CoD3 is a game that is slightly repetitive if not lackluster in its single player - the first level is insanely awesome though.

While it lacks the polish we’ve come to expect from original developer Infinity Ward, it’s still a fun, if dangerously familiar campaign through 1940’s Europe. It’s just doesn’t offer anything unique or new to the genre.

I strongly urge you to pick up the Xbox 360 version. It's more polished, better-looking, runs better, and offers a superior online experience thanks to voice support and more servers and players. The PS3 version is still fun, but the experience is dulled by noticeable slowdown and muddier graphics.

Alex C gave it a7:
Being that it's 2009 and this was released a few year back, the game is good. Obviously, doesn't compare to COD4 or COD:WAW, but it's still a good game. The multiplayer reminds me of old school online games... and lots of people still play!
Bob D. gave it a0:
I got this game in the hopes that single player mode would prove entertaining; sadly it only proved to be exceedingly repetitive, rigid and stupid. I can't tell you how many times i got killed just because my friendly bot helpers blocked my retreat. If I could get a refund for this game I would. Please don't buy it.
Alan D. gave it an8:
This is the highest rating i have ever given a true FPS game. I didn't even really want this game, but as a ps3 owner there wasn't much else to chose from a few months ago. The game plays great overall, but it has moments that really shine. As for the sixaxiss, even though the riffle butting and steering for jeeps was kind of cool, the other mini games were just plain annoying, such as screwing in pins for charges. The ending was a let down, as well as the overall story, which is why it didn't get a 10.
James P. gave it a10:
This has to be one of the best games i have ever played in my life. i think combined with the graphics the ps3 can withstand it is the BEST.
Chris F. gave it a10:
This game is superb, buy it
[Anonyous] gave it a4:
Pretty generic and linear, the ww2-genre is becoming repetitive and ... boring.
Justarius gave it an8:
My buddy and I compared the 360 vs PS3 version side by side on the same Sony 50" 1080P TV. They are identical. You'd need a magnifying glass to see a difference. And MP was always great with multiple 30 person servers to choose from, especially now a few months after launch. I wouldn't say the PS3 version is better, but for sure a total tie. Actually I really like rifle butting by flicking the controller (motion sensor). Too funny. So I give it a slight nod over the 360 version.
