Summary
[Playstation Network] Crash Commando is a fast-paced, side-scrolling humorous multiplayer action game with over-the-top, slap-stick action that features exaggerated gore and effects. Combining the thrill of frenzied multiplayer combat with the straightforward nature of a classic side-scrolling platform title, Crash Commando is a combination of modern, sophisticated technology and traditional arcade gameplay. The player controls a commando soldier and navigates through the maps on foot and with a high-powered jet pack. Each map consists of two gameplay layers the player can seamlessly move between via portals in the environment. Enemies will attack from the sides, as well as from above and below. With a host of both multiplayer and single player modes included, players can enjoy Crash Commando either on or offline. [Sony]

Gaming Age
It's quickly shaping up to be one of my favorite games available on PSN at the moment. It's a great multiplayer title, with a solid online community already established, and some simple, but entirely addictive gameplay behind it.

Although a full-fledged single player campaign would have been nice, Crash Commando still provides hours of gameplay at the bargain price of $10.

It’s always nice to get something original on the PS Store, and even though Crash Commando might not be new in concept, the game design is flawlessly executed and the sheer addictive nature of the gameplay and slick online access makes this a must-own PSN title.

With up to twelve fast-moving, bite-sized soldiers scurrying around 2D maps, using jetpacks, avoiding explosions and nailing the perfect shot on the run, Crash Commando is the latest must-download online addiction exclusively for PS3.

Crash Commando is a really fun multiplayer-focused title that should appeal to pretty much anyone with a pulse. I wish there were more modes included with the shipping version, and I think the sniper rifle will prove to be a little unbalanced, but what's there is an extremely addictive experience that will serve you well during the coldest part of the year.

A fine addition to the PSN. The best value for money shooter around.

Hats off to the dev team for bringing the genre back to life in a visually appealing way that is a lot of fun to play.

Crash Commando offers a lean yet deep gaming experience all at once for up to twelve players online. The controls work brilliantly and the expansive arsenal of weapons is greatly suited for the experience. The different modes available in the game are great, but a few more wouldn't hurt. This is one of the absolutely best downloadable games from the Playstation Store and with some more content the grade would easily have jumped up a notch.

Crash Commando is a superb, little release that binds classic, fast-paced 2D gameplay in a great looking package.

The best fun we've had on PSN for ages. [Jan 2009, p.94]
DarkStation
Crash Commando is just the game PSN needed. A crazy, addicting, and fun little game that will tide us over until the next wave of games hit the store.

Crash Commando fuses established ideas to create a wholly addictive side-scrolling multiplayer shooter.

Aside from inadequate bots and the resulting lackluster solo play, it's hard to go wrong with Crash Commando. It's a great merging of modern shooter concepts with classic movement styles and camera perspectives that I found to be both engaging and fun... even if the whole thing sort of just made me want to reinstall Soldat on my PC.

An amusing game to play for short stretches of time. [Issue#174, p.92]
Gamer 2.0
Crash Commando is a surprisingly fun shooter that should please multiplayer fans that want something light and easy to pick up.

With only four modes, no unlockable incentives to encourage multiple deployments (besides trophies), and a cartoony art style, Crash doesn't sound exciting on paper. But when you zip around, wasp-like, through the levels -- perching on platforms while grabbing out-of-reach body armor and taking potshots at the opposition -- the Contra-meets-TF2 gameplay gels perfectly, keeping you from setting the controller down. And really, that's all an online shooter needs to do.

A lack of a local multiplayer mode is a shocking omission, the audio is instantly forgettable (it's a predictable military score), and the single-player mode is boring as hell. But the online component, when you get a game with real people, provides great fun and the Team Fortress 2-style weapons and art style should appeal to most. Better than a kick in the groin.

After all Crash Commando is a well directed game with an excellent potential. Meanwhile the short campaign leaves most of the success of this game to the on-line mode which may or may not be well frequented. It’s a fun experience and above all it’s an easy game to pick up and play thanks to the simplicity and instinctively qualities of the controls.

Crash Commando is a retro-infused 2D shooter with a furious pace, responsive controls and an impressive arsenal. The single-player experience doesn't encompass much more than a boot camp though, but it's during the multiplayer bouts that this game really shines - especially with the gory visuals.

An unpretentious blast of good-humoured bedlam – well-pitched towards the five-minute attention spans served by fellow PSN title Calling All Cars. [Jan 2009, p.94]

Andrew B gave it a10:
1 of my favourite PSN games I've got and definately the most funny I don't have a single fault with it especially watching someone blowing into little bits of meat perfect.
Bobby S gave it a10:
Ridiculously additive and fast-paced. Take the best of Contra and Unreal and you have a pretty solid idea of what Crash Commando is. Crash Commando is a great game to either pickup for a quick match between real-life events or for long periods of frag-fests. Plenty of online matches available at any hour of the day, making it an awesome game to pickup and play.
