A fun mode that should have been free. [Issue#178, p.88]

Ultimate Team is the perfect excuse to revisit FIFA 09, the best soccer simulation of the year. We hope this time that with the big name of FIFA it doesn't go unnoticed as it did in its first iteration with the UEFA Champions League game.

FIFA 09 Ultimate Team is a good add-on for the original game. It isn't original, because it comes from Uefa Champions 2006/2007; but it adds new unlockable hairstyles, tattoos and other funny things. Someone could dislike the presence of the arcade-style bonus cards, but the real issue is that sometimes the Ultimate Team will simply not work because of the EA servers status. Despite some problems, this DLC is a good purchase for any FIFA09 player, provided that he has sympathy for collectible cars and the arcade functions intrinsic in the new game mode.

It is fun but the contracts are too short and it is hard to get good players unless you have a freind who dont play it anymore and will trade you loads of money and really good players for a rubbish player another problem is once you get some good players youll lose them again because of short contracts.

This is a terrible download. I admit it is a good concept, however it has been ruined by gameplay cards which even have their own quation saying they are not representative of official rules etc> So why put them in. The use of speed traing cards has also made this mode awful. Eventually all players are as good as each other. And lastly, why allow people to buy card packs. It defeats the oblect of working up to get your ultimate team. Good Conept but terribly made.

UT is a truly brilliant idea from EA. Every kid loves collecting cards.. and so do I, im 29!! The team chemistry is a clever feature.. playing Henry up front with Benzema and having an all Spanish midfeield works nicely. Playing online tournaments is also a great feature.. along with the massive online sticker album. The contract side of things keeps you on your toes as a manager.. contract cards are relatively easy and cheap to get hold of.. with an online auction giving players the opportunities to buy, trade and sell cards. The only downside is you cant seem to play your friends. Al in all a brilliant add on.

Nice extension to the original game. This is the game mode that has been missing from the FIFA series all this time. PES has its masters league (or what ever it is called) but FIFA was just playing your same old Liverpool against any random team that happens to come along. This isn't perfect however. The player contracts are just annoyingly short. You can't just sit down and play a match or two with your ultimate team since before each match you need to juggle your contract extensions and move players to reserves and back. If you manage to get enough coins for a gold pack (not an easy feat), the star players you get (if you are lucky) have 5 games left in their contract. They can't even play in enough games to earn their price back. In the end the team you field isn't your ultimate team but a balancing act between who you want to play and who you can afford to play.
