Summary

(Also known as "Race Dirver: GRID") GRID takes players to dramatic and beautifully realized race locations over three continents to compete in a variety of racing events. Packed with the most powerful race cars - new and classic, circuit and drift - players compete to conquer the most prestigious official race tracks and championships then beyond to compete in challenging city-based competitions, and then on through to road events and urban street races. The drama, the rivalries, the aggression and the crashes; this is not a game about collecting cars or spending all of your time in the front-end tuning suspension settings or designing liveries. Codemasters wants to make racing exciting again. Gamers compete on Europe's greatest official race tracks in prestige Marques including Aston Martin, Koenigsegg and Pagani. Iconic cities across the U.S, including San Francisco, Washington DC and Detroit - each with their own atmosphere and events - play host to diverse street races, where high-performance V8 muscle cars set the pace in aggressive, closely fought pack competitions. And in the Far East, Japanese racing culture sets the tone where night races, including Drift racing, takes drivers through neon illuminated cities and to outlying mountain roads. There's also the opportunity to compete in races that operate on the fringes of legality in the back streets and industrial areas of Yokohama. [Codemasters]

Many will balk at the game because it doesn’t offer a million different models of car. Those who do are missing the point. Grid is all about the fun and excitement of the race. It’s racing with a capital ‘R’ minus the frustration. You won’t find a more fun racing game this year.

Series vets with fond memories of the Pro Race Driver/TOCA games on previous systems should pick this up immediately, and if you're unsure about it, there's a demo available for download that’ll give you a good idea as to how easily most of the cars can be controlled, but won't give you a very accurate view of just how many kinds of racing styles are represented in the full game.

Still, bad A.I. and unbalanced physics engine that works for some cars and feels absolutely awful for some other of them, ruins the good potential. It looks nice, moves at a good clip and you always feel like you’re able to control the car and know exactly when you lose your grip. I own GT5-prologue as well as GRID. There's really no way to compare them as they're two completely different animals. GT is refined and 'processed' - GRID is sex on wheels. GT has far sharper and clearer graphics, while GRID has more of a dreamy/blurry feel. You can afford to take corners at a higher speed in GRID, but that's not to say its easy. It isn't. No spoonfeeding the controls like in NFS. It takes a while to get used to this. Pure adrenaline.

Superb racing game. Graphics, physics, AI and framerate are all great. Lack off story is the only negative thing about this game. When you crash your car and deside to replay the race, there is NO LOADING TIME! Aaaaah.

The game can be enjoyable at times and it sure is pretty to look at. I especially love the new and improved replay system. However, the handling is truly awful and is passable only with all assists activated which for all intents and purposes turns the game into a pretty decent arcade racer. The cars feel like hovercraft for there is no sensation of contact between tires and asphalt. The AI needs serious work, it's far too agressive, I liked the adjustable AI in ToCA Race Driver 3, something that should have been carried over. Races quickly devolve into death matches where kamikazee maneuvers and not proper technique is the key to success. The open wheel racing is especially bad which doesn't bode well for their upcoming F1 title. The graphic engine seems to be evolving nicely and everything zips along at a nice stutter-free clip, however the mirrored images are distractingly simplistic. I am of the opinion that if it doesn't look good it shouldn't be there. Some weather effects are also greatly needed. And I could have done without the drift events. Maybe I will grow to like them but I doubt it. I just can't take that sport seriously. Again Codemasters has given us a lot of content, unfortunately, it also comes with a lot of missed opportunities.

Good racing game. Savage difficulty is insanely hard with all assists off.

Very impressed overall great gameplay excellent graphics, online a laugh and single player mode well thought out with sponsorship etc very realistic best racer on ps3 in my opinion!
