Summary
The game, which allows families, tweens and teens to experience a wild journey to rock stardom where they can "Build a Band and Rock the Universe," combines the multiplayer music experience of Rock Band with the fun, customization and humor of the LEGO videogame franchise packed with brilliant chart-topping songs and classic favorites suitable for younger audiences, including: Blur's "Song 2", Carl Douglas's "Kung Fu Fighting", Europe's "The Final Countdown", Good Charlotte's "Boys and Girls", and Pink's "So What." Players become rockers as they embark on a journey to stardom that the whole family can enjoy as they work their way through local venues, stadiums and fantasy locations on Earth and beyond that mimic the imaginative settings that the LEGO world offers. Also continuing the LEGO "build-and-play" gaming experience, players are able to create their own LEGO Rock Band style as they customize their minifigure avatars, band and entourage, including roadies, managers and crew. LEGO Rock Band supports Rock Band instruments, as well as other music game controllers. [Warner Bros.]

Gamer Limit
Traveller's Tales has once again combined a popular game series with the world of LEGOs, adding their own brand of humor and personality to create a one-of-a-kind band experience that can be enjoyed by families and hardcore rhythm gamers alike.

It doesn't stand on its own quite as well as some of this year's other music titles, but it's still a fun, quick romp through pop music seen through a Lego filter.

Not the best value rhythm action game, but a fun party piece. [Jan 2010, p.78]
NZGamer
The game isn’t designed to be a videogame masterpiece, but it succeeds in doing what it attempted to – entertain.

Take away the (great) LEGO visuals and chuck a few extra songs in there and there’d be no reason you wouldn’t be able to pass this off as Rock Band 3. [Christmas 2009, p.76]
Games Radar (in-house)
LEGO Rock Band does a great job of tailoring the core rhythm gameplay to its intended audience. And if you've ever been a fan of LEGOs and have even a passing interest in music games, you'll have some fun with these blocky rockers.

Despite the lack of online play and songs missing from the set list, Lego Rock Band's happy presentation, enjoyable soundtrack and rockin' gameplay will keep you entertained for quite some time.

It’s easy to be skeptical of LEGO Rock Band as a quick cash grab, but Traveller’s Tales’ trademark LEGO silliness blended with a few interesting new mechanics from Harmonix elevates the game to a level fans of both series shouldn’t brush off.

In gameplay terms, LRB is essentially no different than any other Rock Band title. [Jan 2010, p.81]
Games Master UK
A great addition to the Rock Band series; the version to buy if you've younger siblings to play. [Christmas 2009, p.76]
PSX Extreme
The soundtrack is definitely more mature than what was found in Band Hero, but LEGO: Rock Band doesn't do a whole lot to drive the experience forward.

LEGO Rock Band is the same as the other Rock Band games, but with the LEGO influence. The gameplay isn’t really different compared to the other Rock Band games. It’s fun to play thanks to the great humor of LEGO. The perfect Rock Band game for the kids.

Whether you're young or old, the LEGO characters and cute vibe will likely appeal to your sensibilities. All in all, LEGO Rock Band is a quality game that will get the whole family jamming together.

LEGO Rock Band has a place in this industry: it’s a Rock Band for families concerned about the appropriateness of the content.

This charming rhythm game is especially good for first-timers, but it's a little light on content.

Lego Rock Band really does a great job of delivering top-quality presentation and a decent array of songs.

This is the Rock Band game that all the family can easily enjoy. If you’ve been struggling finding a music game that you won’t have to monitor the song list, Lego Rock Band will put your mind at ease.

The game has a decent amount of charm, and the mini-games are nice background distractions. The song list is diverse enough to attract a wide range of players and the game holds on to a light-hearted theme with the animations, background graphics and overall mood.

The Beatles: Rock Band was a success because of its incredible soundtrack and a pure vision when it came to presentation. On top of that, it was the best iteration on Rock Band’s gameplay elements to date. Lego Rock Band tries to drink from the same well and even has the benefit of tapping a seemingly new audience. But, due to poor setlist choices and stability issues, it’s just not up to snuff when held up against the already impressive Harmonix offerings.

Lego Rock Band is a good musical game, which perhaps will fall short for players who enjoyed Rock Band 2 or The Beatles: Rock Band.
It's fun while it lasts, but it certainly won't blaze any new trails as far as virtual rockstardom goes, and diehard fans of Rock Band should hope that the devs return to their hard rocking roots for the next genuine installment. [Feb 2010, p.89]
PALGN
If you play LEGO Rock Band as standalone game and then export the tracks to your hard drive, you’ll get the best value out of this title. Anyone playing this merely as a standalone game without any extra DLC, or using it as a track pack, will have to carefully evaluate the included tunes before they Lego of their cash.

It's a kind of pricey track pack of a bizarre setlist for a really fun rhythm game.

Lego characters and some great songs don't guarantee a new feeling to a brand that is becoming old.
Lego Rock Band, while not a bad game, is easily the weakest in the series.

LEGO Rock Band has become a decent game which is especially meant for children. You can expect another tracklist then usual. The LEGO style is nice to look at for a while, but adults can better choose another music game to play.

A lot of work clearly went into crafting the Story Mode, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s a different package for the same old Rock Band setup: play songs, buy stuff to outfit your band with, and travel to other places where you play more songs.
An easier, more slimmed down version of the Rock Band games that doesn't really benefit from the Lego brand. Only for those who think the song list is great.
It's just a bit too childish with the LEGO pieces as band members, and the setlist isn't too inspiring either. Thankfully the songs can be exported, which makes sure that they can be played in Rock Band 2 instead.

Lego Rock Band is a fun game, but clearly inferior to any other game of the franchise.
I'm left wondering who Lego Rock Band is really for. It seems to be trying to cater to everyone, but it ends up simply unfocused, and occasionally outright sloppy. It doesn't actively offend, but it's nowhere near a must-have, even for serious music-game fans.

Oren M gave it a10:
This is the first game ever on my PS3 that I can play with my any member of my family and we are all very happy with it. It's far better then the new guitar hero titles that present boring songs and poor presentation, I mean you can't even know the difficulty level of a song, they invented the intensity term tat says nothing. I found that it's even better then rock band, because you can pay instead of just fail and there are some minor improvements to the game play that someday will move to rock band as a patch. Lets face it, I most of the music titles for the ps2/ps3, I think this is the result of the evolution of them all, for my family, this is the game of the year.
