Well worth playing for if you have not purchased one of the many other versions for a while.

Still, in the end, Lumines is a great game to play. The basic gameplay is solid and addictive, and the skins are mesmerizing in both sound and visuals, blending with the gameplay to create a hypnotic experience.

Cheat Code Central

It's one of the best downloadable values on the PlayStation Network - this game is packed with content and you can easily spend dozens of hours exploring all that it has to offer.

PSX Extreme

Lumines Supernova is a fantastic addition to the PlayStation Store and at only $14.99, it’s a steal. The longevity is just insane, and it’s not entirely due to the addictive quality of the gameplay.

IGN

I've been playing Lumines Supernova so much that I see orange and white blocks when I close my eyes; that's a good thing, but I can't help feeling like the game could've been more.

Lumines Supernova is easily the best iteration of the game to date. The amount of content here is simply outstanding. Unfortunately if you have been a fan of the series for a while a lot of it is going to feel a little too familiar.

GameSpot

Lumines Supernova is well priced and brimming with great content, but the lack of online multiplayer is unfortunate.

Eurogamer Portugal

Lumines Supernova is a solid package that offers a great amount of variety, thanks to its many game modes. The lack of online play is sadly the only issue in a game where the hard difficulty settings are the main dish for all the veterans. We have seen all this before, but it still simply rocks.

Despite this criticism for only £8.99 you’ve got a title that will continue to challenge and entertain long after many other purchases have been deleted. Lumines Supernova also looks and sounds great.

Play it right and it builds into a hypnotically rhythmic blur of colour and sound. [Mar 2009, p.91]

Meristation

Lumines Supernova is a great addition to the PSN catalogue. Lumines is one of the best puzzles created in the last years, and this new version conserves all the qualities of the original one. Unfortunately, the online modes shine by their absence.

Eurogamer

Although the new toys fail to entirely justify themselves - and if you can forgive the absence of online options, and look past what many perceive as the heresy of playing the game on anything other than a handheld - Lumines Supernova is probably the fullest incarnation of the game yet available.

Gaming Age

Increasing the longevity of the Lumines experience, Supernova also includes a sequencer where you can create your own tracks. It's pretty limited, but offers enough variance to make some pretty unique tracks.

Giant Bomb

While I think that anyone with a reasonable level of interest in puzzle or rhythm games should absolutely own Lumines, there's really no good reason to collect them all. If you've somehow managed to dodge the series until now, Supernova's a fine place to start. But as someone that's been playing it since it was originally released on the PSP in Japan, I got tired of it almost immediately.
