Games Radar (in-house)
This ain't Baseball for Dummies - mastering your skills takes practice, but we like that. If it were easy, there'd likely be little reason to play for long. As it is, we're addicted to both our franchise and online play; 2K Sports' famously robust internet leagues and websites return to embarrass all other comers' usually feeble online offerings.

MLB 2K7 is certainly a better game, but most of the new content is of the visual variety. I can't stress enough how impressive this aspect of the game is. It captures the look, sound, and feel of the game better than anything you've seen before. [Mar 2007, p.98]

Beauty can make a lack of substance forgivable, and that's definitely the case here. MLB 2K7 looks so realistic that you may end up looking around your living room for a hot-dog vendor between pitches.

With so many options to choose from baseball fans will no doubt find something to love here.

There is some real hardcore action for serious baseball fans here and they'll enjoy the tasks of micro-managing teams, sending in plays, and experiencing some real major league fun. But for all others, the game fails to draw you in.

MLB 2K7 is far from perfect but there are great strides to make it an enjoyable Baseball experience.

This game's stunning details should keep you engaged all summer long, and the potential tendon injury from hitting is enticing. But the absence of rumble and the general lack of defensive and pitching innovation keep this from making the All-Star team.

If you want a good looking game that plays well against other people online, MLB 2k7 is great. There is room for improvement, but it gets most of the top priorities right. If you want a solid franchise simulation, well, maybe next year.

No baseball game will ever be perfect. But with a patch here and there, MLB 2K7 is easily on the path to being the greatest baseball game ever made. There. Someone had to say it.

The SIXAXIS control scheme, while creative, just doesn't get the job done as much as you'd hope it would. 2K7 is still fun, but a number of its issues hamper the enjoyment of this title.

A handful of quirks keep it from being great, but MLB 2K7 is still a very solid baseball game.

The game does a good job of cleaning up the mistakes from last year’s version and provides an overall much cleaner baseball game. Unfortunately, the buggy SIXAXIS support and some technical flaws open up a whole new can of worms.

The visual upgrade will get you bby this season, 2K, but come back peddling the same lackluster feature set next year and I'm sendin' you to the minors. [Apr 2007, p.89]
PSX Extreme
Visually it's disappointing, as the field detail and the framerate are the worst offenders. Lastly, the commentary is just barely acceptable, but may get repetitive sooner than you think.

Thankfully Sixaxis control can be turned off. [May 2007, p.113]

Still, a good looking game goes a long way, and there's no denying MLB 2K7 looks killer. [May 2007, p.82]
GameSpy
If you own a PS3 and an Xbox 360, then go ahead and opt for the 360 version. It has better online support, sharper visuals and richer colors. But if you only own a PlayStation 3, rest assured that you'll enjoy this version anyways.

For every impressive animation on the field or cool detail such as dirt staying on uniforms after a slide, there seems to be a negative aspect, from the frame rate suddenly taking a hit as a runner sprints toward first to an unflattering camera view that detracts more than it adds.

In addition to the noticeable lag in online games, MLB does have its fair share of problems. There is an unusual amount of clipping when players collide during plays, as sometimes baserunners can clip into the fielders. The framerate is also slow, especially for a next-gen game.

Kevin K. gave it a2:
This game blows. With the possible exception of only somewhat disappointing graphics, I am entirely dismayed with this product. I wish I could have my $60 back. Statistical inaccuracies abound, horrible commentating (including calling a right handed pitcher a "good looking young lefty"), piss-poor scoring (as in awarding hits on errors by fielders, causing a pitcher's ERA to go up), and overall very rough gameplay. If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't buy it. Not even used.
Dave H. gave it a7:
Much improved from last year's version, but there still are some problems. Graphics are good, but having played NBA 2K7, I expected better, cleaner graphics. The animations and signature styles are excellent. Batting routines mimic real life players very well. Hitting is solid, but fielding can be frustrating due to poor response time. Also, the PS3 version has a lot of slow-down in different places during the game which is very annoying. Solid effort, but if 2K Sports can improve these problems next year, they should have a gem.
Matt S. gave it an8:
Much better than the joke that came out last year for the 360. Looks great. Play is decent, although I'm not sure the sixaxis batting is the way to go - seems to be difficult and awkward. Good all around game and finally we can play a baseball game again.
