Summary

The innovative Road to The Show mode enables fans to play solely as a custom-created rookie on both offense and defense while attempting to rise through the ranks and make a starting line-up in the Big Leagues. Adding to its already robust online feature set, the MLB franchise now includes Online League Play, which gives gamers the ability to set up leagues with up to 30 teams, complete statistical tracking, point benefits and full customization, while the My Sliders feature allows users to create their perfect game settings and upload them to the MLB 07 The Show server for others to try out. Overall, MLB 07 is one of, if not the best, baseball games ever made.

Gaming Target

The PS3 is going through the usual post-launch woes, but if you're a baseball fan, MLB 07 The Show is just the game to get you through the lean months until the usual fall insanity.

Game Chronicles

This game blew away any expectations that I had. Every second something caught me off guard and really brought me into the game even more.

PSX Extreme

The Show may not be a powerhouse looker, but it is still a very sharp looking game with life-like animation that is a sight to see. The commentary is leagues better than anything out there and it really immerses you into the game. Most importantly, though, this is one baseball game that won't drive you crazy with stupid quirks, balance issues, and overly juiced gameplay.

MLB 07: The Show is the best baseball game currently available on the PS3.

MLB 07: The Show although lacking in graphics, has some of the most solid baseball mechanics seen in game form.

If you've already got MLB 06, it's difficult to justify the upgrade unless this mode particularly interests you, but for those new to the series then MLB 07 is worth the purchase for any fan of the sport.

Sure, there are some frustrations in this game, but it is still a pretty good representation of the game of baseball. The game looks great, sounds good and plays well.

The new features such as Road to the Show are great additions to the game, as are the improvements to the pitching and batting systems.

GameSpot

Though it doesn't take full advantage of the PlayStation 3 hardware, MLB 07: The Show is a great game, and the new road to the show mode is fantastic.

Cheat Code Central

Gameplay and authenticity are what set this game apart, both of which were also included in the PS2 version. Disappointingly, the graphics are very good but not excellent; as a result, I can't recommend the PS3 version over that of the PS2.

Games Radar (in-house)

Though "2K7" keeps the casual fans happy with eye-popping visuals, The Show keeps the die-hards in their seats with just the opposite.

I know I keep mentioning this, but it's important. I don't play sports games, and yet I wanted to play more of The Show. I can't think of a better complement about the game, but it's certainly not perfect.

I would recommend this over MLB 2K7 just because of the Road to The Show mode.

Operation Sports

MLB 07: The Show plays a fantastically realistic and remarkably fun game on the field - in fact, it's perhaps the best on-field baseball game ever created, and certainly the best one this year.

GameSpy

A slick and graphically upgraded version of an already strong PS2 title. It shares some of the same problems as that game -- namely a very difficult base running mode -- and has a few of its own in the form of some of some graphics hiccups, but overall, it's a solid debut.

Those with even a passing interest in baseball needed hesitate, though. This is manna from heaven. Import now. [Sept 2007, p.110]

IGN

Funky infielder logic, lackluster visuals and other odd changes to the gameplay formula literally turns a great baseball title on older systems into a good title on the PS3.

Game Informer

While the PS2 version shines as the best baseball game released this year, this iteration really needed to cook a little longer in the minors to nail down the fundamentals of the sport. With that said, PS3 owners should look to the previous generation’s game.

Gaming Age

Even though the PLayStation 3 is the definitive version of the series, and no doubt the best baseball game on the market, there are still some glaring issues that make the game seemed as if it were rushed to make this season.

Gaming Nexus

While it's not a huge step in improvement for a baseball game, MLB 07 The Show manages some good baseball moments. The bugs and some inconsistent issues leaves it at an above average baseball game though.

DarkStation

MLB 07: The Show is one of those games that had the potential to be a real home run hitter coming out of the gates with very little in terms of expectations. I would say the final results are more of a base hit than anything that they game had the potential to do.

Despite the improved visuals, MLB sports a few nagging glitches, and although the game's fun, it doesn't feel like a huge step up from its predecessor.

For hardcore baseball fans, this is possibly the perfect baseball game. For the more casual crowd, though, you may want to try the cheaper PS2 version.

Right now the baseball game to beat on the PS3 is Konami’s "Professional Baseball Spirits 4," and even with the language barrier, it’s still a more enjoyable game.

The bugs and the lame graphics show that MLB 07: The Show was a rush job. And that’s a shame, because there’s a lot of good stuff here.

The Show is a solid game, but where the PS2 (and PSP) versions are inspired, the PS3 offering doesn't give the same feeling of "real" baseball. It's a no-contest this season: For the best new-gen baseball, stick with the most beautiful choice: "MLB 2K7."

Rudy gave it a10:
Game is simply fantastic. The best baseball game out there imo and the best one I've ever played. They could beef up the minors and some very small complaints but I don't see how any baseball fan could not love this game. The fun factor is there in a big way.

Wendell P. gave it a9:
This is the best basball game every created. Infield player movement could be a little smoother. Very close to being perfect. This very close to being the best game evere created.

Alec B. gave it a4:
This game pretty much blows. yea the graphics r amazing. buh the gamplay sucks so bad. unrealistic batting stances and player.. since when is david ortiz so skinny. 2k7 is better go buy that one.

John G. gave it a10:
You must definitely should NOT buy 2k7 ... the gameplay is a mess. MLB is the best baseball game I've ever played.

Mike C. gave it a5:
The on line play is a total mess - I haven't been able to connect to a game yet. Should have bought 2K7

Dionysus J. gave it an8:
The characters animations are the best in ANY sports game to date; and the batting, pitching, and fielding mechanics are virtually flawless. MLB The Show is the definitive baseball simulator -- 2K7 is just a pretty face.

Mark W. gave it a9:
We can all agree that this is the best baseball game on the market. If you don't agree then you are asking the PS3 to deliver David Wright to your home with a lifetime supply of Taco Bell and pay you to become your best friend. This is the best video game baseball yet. Next years release will be even better, though I don't know how it can get much better. I am putting my bets on MLB 08: The Show. bty... I AM NOT a fan boy. I own and love every system...relax!
