Summary
[Playstation Network] Numblast is a colourful puzzle game which follows the tale of Japanese university students Aoyama and Akasaka. After an experiment with mysterious cubic artefacts, Aoyama accidently triggers a magic explosion that turns his colleague Akasaka into a monkey. You have to help Aoyama return his friend back to human form by solving the puzzles of Numblast. By swapping the position of the numbered cubes on a grid and creating a combination of four identical numbers in a two-by-two square, you can cause the cubes to explode. If you form longer and more complex combos the explosions become even bigger, giving you the chance of wiping out the whole board with a single combo chain - and bringing you closer to the goal of turning Akasaka back into a human. There are three modes to play outside of the main story - Endless Mode, where you must detonate as many Numblast cubes as possible until the field is completely covered by Black cubes, Time Trial Mode, which challenges you to get the highest score possible within the three minute time limit, and Puzzle Mode where you have to detonate all cubes within a predetermined number of rotations. Fast, colourful and fun gameplay. Enjoy three game modes, Endless, Time Trial and Puzzle. Compete with the best using the online ranking board. [SCEE]

Numblast has definitely more ooomph than meets the eye. Once you understand the fun combo mechanism, you're hooked. [Aug 2009]
Vandal Online
It is not proved Numblast improves visual perception and mathematic reflexes, but for sure it does not make them worse, and it does deliver one of its objectives: entertain and engage the player.

Numblast can be played by young and old gamers. Japanese people are not only good in making games colourful, they are also good in creating addictive puzzle games. Exploding numbers: Numblast is just the bomb!

A competent puzzler worth 4 quid. [Aug 2009, p.76]
Gamer.nl
Numblast requires quick thinking and sleight of hand. It is a fun little puzzle game to play and a welcome addition to the PS3 and PSP library.

Numblast is one of the best puzzle games on the PSN if you consider quality per buck. The upside is an intuitive game mode that will appeal to many puzzle game fans, with its endless variations. The downside is that it is hard to master and most average gamer will not have the tenacity to go as far.

It's a nice idea and comes with a great price and plenty of play modes, but it just requires too much hard work to be fun. [Issue#183, p.83]
Eurogamer Portugal
Numblast is a challenging game that won’t easily welcome the player. To be enjoyed at hiss full strength you’ll need to waste several hours learning all the skills needed, but should you do that when there are much better games out there?

It's really hard, probably too quirky, and not much fun unless you're really into maths. [Sept 2009, p.107]

Once you figure out the combo's of Numblast, you'll really begin to appreciate the game that much more. It's fast paced and challenging and is definitely best played in 30 minute bursts.
