PSM3 Magazine UK
A must download. Excellent fun, all in all. [Dec 2007, p.84]
games(TM)
PixelJunk Racers is perhaps the most unlikely sort of game to appear on the boastfully next-gen PS3 but that also makes it one of the most enjoyable titles on the system. [Dec 2007, p.116]

The real bonus is the range of race types available. [Issue#160, p.96]

PixelJunk Racers' virtual slot cars are fun in groups of people, but without online multiplayer, you'll get tired quickly if you're playing alone.

PixelJunk Racers is a nice game, that can be seen either as a lost opportunity, or a little good idea.

Before too long though, it's a bit too easy to find yourself growing tired of the sheer volume of other cars to bash into and the constant eyeball-gymnastics required to track your lanes. There's a surprising amount of skill involved with doing well in many of these events, so the faint-hearted will grow weary too soon.

PixelJunk Racers isn't a bad game, it's just prohibitively difficult, so much so that it's actually a turn-off.

The many creative modes don't make up for the simplistic gameplay, though, leaving PixelJunk Racers feeling bland and forgettable. [Nov 2007, p.67]
IGN
An intrinsically bland concept keeps this game from becoming a truly enjoyable hit, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's terrible. We had a few good times with PixelJunk Racers (especially the confusion of trying to figure out seven different people playing seven different colors), but you may be better off passing on this one.

Even in 1080p it's excruciatingly tricky to tell which lane you're in, leading to a lot of unnecessary collisions. [Dec 2007, p.113]
PALGN
PixelJunk Racers is a basic game, not basic in the sense that it's easy to pick the game up (but it is) but basic in the sense that the game can be a little bit too boring.

Multiplayer is certainly better than single-player (the more people, the better), but it suffers from the same pileups and limited variety. Considering how impractical it is to set up a full multiplayer game offline, it's ridiculous that the game's only online feature is comparing scores and leaderboards.

Andy P. gave it an8:
This game is a lot of fun and feels very different to more traditional racing games. The difficulty is a bit high in single player and requires very sharp reflexes to do well, but play it for a while and you'll understand what it's all about. The game supports up to 7 players in multiplayer, which is where the game really comes alive. Fireball racer with 3 or 4 other players is an experience not to be missed - it's just a shame that with the simple controls there is no option to have two players on one pad like Micro Machines for the Megadrive. PS3 controllers are expensive! A nice little game that fans of high speed twitch action should enjoy. Due to the low price point and uniqueness of the gameplay I highly recommend it.
Rhodri B. gave it a10:
Score attack on speed monkey and sudden death have taken hours of my life away!
Joe gave it a9:
This game is so addicting and fun i love it.
