Summary
Concluding the events set into motion by Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time at long last answers some of the franchise fans' largest questions. After discovering that Clank's disappearance was engineered by Dr. Nefarious, Ratchet races to rescue his best friend. Unfortunately, he discovers that Clank's capture is just the beginning of Nefarious's latest diabolical plot. In this follow-up to the best-selling series, Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time puts players into the role of both Ratchet and Clank as they attempt to reunite and save the universe. Along the way, both finally uncover the hidden truth behind their origins, and discover their ultimate destinies. As the duo come closer to reuniting, they have to ask themselves the biggest question of all: Do Ratchet and Clank's destinies lie with each other? Or is it finally time for the universe's greatest duo to separate for good? Players use new gadgets such as Ratchet’s Hoverboots to explore levels and can take off in Ratchet’s ship to discover nearby moons and planets. Clank use new abilities to manipulate time to try and stop Dr. Nefarious. [Sony]

I'm a casual fan of the series and I still found myself excited to get home and play the game each night the past week. It may be a lot of more of the same, but more of the same has never been so darn addicting.

I really couldn't ask for a better embodiment of everything I've come to enjoy from the series. The constant satisfaction from upgrading creative weaponry, item collection which feels rewarding rather than trivial, and the over-the-top action are all here, and better than they've ever been. With the addition of some interesting puzzles, even more flexibility with your weapons, and a great presentation, Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time is not only the best game in the series, but one that will certainly stand the test of, well, time.

Besides being the best R&C adventure yet, it's definitely one of those rare games that puts a smile on your face from the second it begins.

If this is truly the last Ratchet and Clank release then rest assured that the series goes out with a bang. It’s one of the games of the year and an outstanding exclusive for the Playstation 3.

The pinnacle of everything that's made the series great from day one pulled together with sheer mastery and polished to a blinding sheen. Insomniac's finest work to date, and that's saying something. You're gonna love the way it looks, I guarantee it.

While Ratchet and Clank's latest outing would serve as a great starting point for those just discovering the franchise, it's an even wilder ride for longtime fans. The story is packed with surprises, including some shockers about the duo's origins, as well as answers to some longstanding questions.

This series is the closest video games come to having a noteworthy serialized adventure. A Crack in Time shows a good idea and consistent execution is all it takes to keep interest high. Keep ‘em coming, Insomniac!

A hover boot-enabled leap forward for platform fans. [Dec 2009, p.76]

There is definitely a feeling of this being more of the same, but enough has been added to the formula to keep that from being a big deal as a negative.

Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time is yet another great entry in a consistently excellent franchise, and the best entry in the series since the PS2 days.

It's not a difficult game, but with bolts, Zoni, Skill Points, holoplans, Constructo Mods, space missions, Trophies and Challenge Mode, there's an abundance of gameplay. It's a robust single player experience, and I particularly love that Insomniac has kept their signature Skill Points, with their own quirky requirements, separate from Trophies.

Even though there’s not much different or new about this sequel when compared to the last game, Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time manages to be one of the most enjoyable titles released this year.

A Crack in Time isn’t a revolution, but it is an impressively solid and fun game with a number of new gameplay hooks to enjoy. Plus, it continues a story set in motion back in Tools of Destruction that you’ll want to see through to the end.

Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time is a great addition to the series. It nicely caps the storyline, it fills the underserved (at least by good titles) platformer market, and the few unique new elements breathe a bit of fresh air into the game.

It's a monumental space adventure you shouldn't miss, whether you're a longtime fan or a newcomer. Insomniac wraps up the duo's space saga in style. We just hope to see more of them in the future. We can't get enough of these guys.

Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time has just enough new content to justify its existence as a standalone title, and the fact that it looks, sounds, and plays like a dream only helps its case.

It's all about balance, you see. And pacing. And A Crack in Time does as good a job of maintaining both as any Ratchet game we've seen in years.

For those of you who've never embarked on an adventure with the furry-faced hero and his brainy metal friend, you've got a lot of catching up to do, but it'll be worth it -- Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time is easily one of the best in the series.

The usual Ratchet & Clank mixture of platform elements, problem solving and shooting, but the best game in the series so far. Insomniac gives us a large universe to explore freely with smarter problems, a well-needed higher difficulty setting and lots of things to collect.

Being a huge fan of Tools of Destruction, I had a sneaking suspicion that I would love Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time. I was right. Insomniac has created a visually appealing game with enough personality to match its good looks.

If A Crack in Time is indeed the final Ratchet & Clank game, then the series has been finished the right way - with a solid game that doesn't stray from what fans love while giving them plenty of service in the process. And in this way, it's also guilty of playing it a bit safe, but when expectations are that high, and are met, it's a sure sign of a quality game.

Even though the formula of this series hasn't seen a dramatic overhaul, the gameplay does continue to offer a very solid experience, complete with enough new features to keep it feeling fresh.

Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time adds new bits and pieces to the good old gameplay, but mainly excels with its fantastic and addictive adventure, amazing graphics and insane humour. On top of that, there's a lot more to do and to collect in this title than the previous installments. Sony was probably hoping for a successful tag team in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time this fall. There's only one reply to that: Mission accomplished.

Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time keeps all the aspects of the previous games of the series, improving in every department and giving the player entertainment and a lot of things to do. A graphic department with some low spikes and the lack of true challenge prevents the game to gain a very high score. Anyway the last videogame from Insomniac is highly recommended to every genre's enthusiast.

This is the last part in the trilogy and has a few new gameplay possibilities. You can use the great new Hooverboots, explore space with your spaceship and you need to find Clank. A great adventure and a truly worthy closing of the trilogy.

A great game marred only by a pervading sense of dj vu, then. But when the quality bar is raised this high, deja vu be damned - we couldn't care less. We just sincerely hope that Insomniac see reason and postpone killing off their strongest franchise for a some time yet.

Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time is a delicious platform game. The relationship of Ratchet and Clank delivers a great adventure and the split between the two friends gives a lot of variety in the levels. Off course the game looks amazing just like its predecessors and the humour never gets old. A Crack in Time is a moment of joy, that’s why its double that disappointing that the game is rather short.

If you’re completely new to the series, here’s one of those sappy-but-absolutely-true game-reviewisms for you: This is one of those games about which, not too far in the future, I’ll probably be thinking, "I wish I could play that game again, for the first time." Maybe, someday, there’ll be a mod for that, too.

A fantastic finale of this colourful franchise. The story is pure genius, the action well thought out and the puzzles offer a lot of challenge. Let’s hope Insomniac Games keeps offering ways for us to enjoy this virtual world, perhaps through a subfranchise. We can’t miss the great one-liners from Captain Quark or the visual beauty and exotic weapons!

A Crack in Time is an engaging conclusion to a trilogy that has been thoroughly enjoyed by millions and now seems like a fitting place to say our fond farewells to a larger series and let nostalgia take over.

With a few good additions to the solid gameplay, and ignoring the one not-so-good space combat addition, A Crack in Time is a great conclusion to a great trilogy - and possibly the series.

This is a solid game with solid platforming, fun gunplay and well thought-out puzzle design, with bags of character. But it suffers, we think, mainly from the progression that games have made over the past two years.

The lack of fresh ideas, especially during Ratchet's sections, will be seen by many as a negative, but there are so few games that nail the action platforming genre that it's easily forgivable. If you're looking for a fun, imaginative, family friendly PS3 game, A Crack in Time fits the bill perfectly.

Insomniac closes the plot of the Future sub-saga with a tittle where most of the time, Ratchet is without Clank, and Clank without Ratchet. Nice visuals, incredibly fun as usual and packed with an arsenal of mass destruction that never disappoints, the only complaints about the game come from the few additions added to the gameplay mechanics -although Clank and his puzzles add a brief and fresh touch-, the same technical aspect we have been watching in PS3 since Tools of Destruction, and the lack of a multiplayer what would have totally fit here.

Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time is a good game, and sometimes a very good one at that, but apart from a few new time-centric puzzles on Clank's behalf it doesn't bring very much new material to the table. The titular Crack in Time mainly seems to lead to the previous PS3 games in the series. And all the PS2 versions before that. It's fun, but hardly inspiring.

It's not that A Crack in Time is all fur coat and no knickers. The problem is, it's all fur coat and the same knickers it's been wearing for seven years. Time for a change.
