Summary
The Simpsons Game features a hilarious, sprawling, and mind-busting storyline crafted by the TV show's Emmy Award-winning writers. The action-comedy also features the full cast of voice actors from the TV show who reprise their roles for the game. In The Simpsons Game, Homer, Marge, Bart, and Lisa use exciting, all-new powers to save the world from rising chaos. To help the Simpsons, gamers at home must journey through all of Springfield (as well as vast worlds beyond!), vanquish an amazing array of villains, and fight their way through parodies of popular games. One of the more surprising games of the year - and the best Simpsons game to date. [Issue#160, p.92]
AceGamez
Yes, the gameplay often involves derivative platform jumping, simple puzzles and basic fighting - and apparently the camera can be a bit of a nuisance - but the variety of game-parodying levels on offer, the authentic graphics, the wonderful voice acting and the diverse soundtrack help it rise above mediocrity to become greater than the sum of its parts.

Actually, it ccould be said that it's actually more fun to watch the game than it is to play it. [Holiday 2007, p.76]
Games Master UK
It's not the most polished in terms of gameplay. but fans shouldn't miss this. [Christmas 2007, p.60]
GameTrailers
If nothing else, this playful romp packs enough in-jokes for both Simpsons fans and gamers in general that it’s definitely worth playing through at least once.

In the end, what you are presented with is a very solid Simpsons title. Its humor, as stated, goes beyond just pleasing regular and hardcore Simpsons fans. So aside from the camera, the game is just find-diddly-ine to go on out and pick up.

Easily the best use of a licensed property, but by parodying old gameplay mechanics, the game reinforces just how tired we've gotten of the same elements that the game itself relies upon.

Had it offered online cooperative play, or local co-op play that was actually as much fun as the single-player game (if not more so) then the score would definitely be higher, but as it stands The Simpsons is a very enjoyable, though very, very short, single-player game that both hardcore and casual Simpsons fans will love.

Simply put, this is the Simpsons Game fans have been waiting for. Even with its faults, I would dare say that no one will complain too much, mainly due to being doubled over from laughing so much.

The entertaining one-liners and simple 3D platform aspect of the title will keep you going for a few hours, but won’t have you playing until your eyes fall out.

While it’s not as engrossing as The Simpsons Hit & Run, the humorous off-the-wall levels still makes this a fun game for fans of the series and any gamer who likes their platform games with plenty of humor will find a lot to like about this game.

For the two or three evenings that this will last you, there’s enough going on to keep you pushing forward to the end.

The way it makes fun of the videogame culture is pure Simpsons genius, but the gameplay gets in the way of all the fun. Fans will still have their Simpsons fix, but the marriage between two different mediums (the TV show and the videogame) doesn’t work out very well. [Nov 2007]
GamePro
But despite all of the control issues, for my money, this is one of the most fun games I've played in a while.

An amazing fan-service production wrapped around a mediocre platformer.

Untimately, though, The Simpsons lives and dies on the strength of its gameplay and here it doesn't particularly shine. [Nov 2007, p.64]
Game Informer
The chuckles along the way make it worth the trouble for fans, but if you don’t know Arman Tamzarian from Disco Stu, most of the game’s redeeming elements will fall on deaf, bored ears.

Ultimately, it’s all pretty basic stuff. There’s nothing particularly fancy about the actual game mechanics and it’s somewhat odd that The Simpsons Game makes fun of various videogame clichés (such as not being able to swim, using levers or pads on the ground to open doors) and then turns around and uses them about a dozen or so times.

Sure, there are a few problems, but it's worth, say, dealing with the busted camera to see which videogame the writers are going to parody next.

While the action can be uneven -- though never bad -- creativity and charm carry the game to a higher level. The humor will get you through the slow levels, the authentic voices and writing will satisfy your fanatcism, and the cameos... will keep you entertained.

The bothersome camera often gets stuck, thus obscuring your vision and two-player split screen messes with the game's speed, but the exclusive clips and humorous presentation make this a must play, especially for diehard Simpsons fans.

The gameplay might not be anything special, but The Simpsons Game delivers more than enough laughs to make it worth a look.

Flimsy platforming and lame combat, but so funny it's hard to care. Fans will go nuts. [Christmas 2007, p.70]
Playstation Official Magazine UK
The humour is as sharp as a good episode of the TV show. [Christmas 2007, p.104]
TheSixthAxis
It's a brave way to use a trusted franchise, but EA have pulled it off and we can't recommend this more for hardcore Simpsons fans as they'll obviously get the most from the game. Everyone else can rest assured that this is well worth the cash.

If you’re just a casual viewer or not a fan at all, then there’s nothing in the game to warrant your cash. On the other hand, if you are a Simpsons devotee, then the pitch-perfect humor, writing, and look of this game will more than make it worth putting up with the standard gameplay mechanics.
Read Full Review >Total Video Games
Despite enjoying the continuity of an episode (or twelve) and the throwaway self-referential comedy that made the TV show famous, The Simpsons gets stuck with mediocre, generic gameplay, and confusion over who exactly the game is making fun of. One for fans.
The camera is a nightmare, often getting stuck behind some invisible barrier or randomly switching to new and more disorienting angles. The collision detection's had a nervous breakdown, the puzzles are as laborious as a two-hour queue in the freezing cold and the combat has about as much depth as the shallow end at your local swimming pool.

The Simpsons Game may just be the funniest video game ever, but funny is not the same as fun,and it's just not a very good game. I found myself wanting to finish the game just for the humor, even though I was screaming at the TV after falling down the 10,000th pit or when the camera showing me the wall again while i get killed.

The non-existent friendly AI combined with the relentless assault of dull attackers makes The Simpsons an almost depressing experience. It doesn’t feel quite right to be laughing when you’re not enjoying yourself. [Chrismas 2007, p.120]

David L gave it an8:
This game is robust - but I don't think you'll enjoy it if you're not a simpsons fan, as the focus is more on the story than on the actual gameplay.
Joe W. gave it a9:
I love this game BUT I am a major Simpsons fan, if you have good knowledge of the show there will be alot of memorable moments and references in this game and many fresh jokes. Alot of negative things were said about the camera but I think it works very well and free. A fun game with nice colourful graphics and a blast to play with a friend in co-op mode with good replay value. (Downloadable content may also be arriving for us Simpson fans).
Daniel F. gave it a4:
You might as well stay with the PS2 with this game or even the PS ONE, this is no next gen game, not even avarage at PS One level, will bore you after 20 minutes and make you wonder why you spent double money for the ps3 version when the ps2 is just the same....as for the game well..its the simpsons, but its not good, i still prffer the arcade version from over 10 years ago, which says alot for this game.
A Ron Hubbard gave it a1:
Camera: broken Controls: broken Price: broken Do not buy. Rent if you're bored.
JJ Z. gave it an8:
A Simpson game through and through. the game play is good but not great and the extras in game will get a chuckle out of most players but this is not the Simpson's arcade classic we were all hoping for.
