Summary
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is your last chance to rescue America's sexiest city from an escalating terrorist siege that will force you into heart-pounding action from beginning to end. Sin City is back and bigger than before. Explore all new Vegas hot spots as the environment changes from dusk to bright daylight to dawn, creating a visual experience that is as challenging as it is breathtaking. The multiplayer mode in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas has been upgraded to include 11 new, smaller maps that force more intense face-offs, 2 new adversarial modes, more rewards, and easier access to matches using the improved and intuitive matchmaking system. Create your own identity that stays the same in both single player and multiplayer modes and progresses as you do. Reap the benefits of your single player rewards in multiplayer and vice versa. Turn single player mode into co-op mode at any time, just by jumping into the game. Now your friend can jump into your single player game and help you without any change to the story. Single player maps and storyline were created with co-op in mind, which means every map has multiple entry points and the story is the same. AI is more challenging than ever. Now, the terrorists are equipped with thermal vision, night vision, and shields – not to mention a multitude of varying reactions – all of which are guaranteed to give you a new playing experience every time you go into battle. As you progress within the game, you'll only be able to outsmart your enemies by taking advantage of intel opportunities, such as thermal scanning, and tactical strategies, such as leapfrogging. Take down the terrorists more effectively using 11 new weapons. New camouflage, clothing and gear allow you to take customization to the next level. [Ubisoft]

Vegas 2 is still is one hell of a game. It is definitely the best shooter on the PS3 this year, if not the best shooter on the console overall.

A hell of a package. It's sort of a shame that so much of it is recycled from the last game, but nobody stops eating their favorite food because it's similar every time - and this is the Kobe beef of tactical FPS. [Apr 2008, p.80]

Suffice it to say that if you enjoyed the first Rainbow Six: Vegas, then you will undoubtedly find considerable value in Vegas 2.

Just like any good trip to Vegas, the sights and sounds will absolutely assault your senses. [May 2008, p.74]

Whether a big fan, or just someone who is interested to see what all the fuss is about, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 delivers a stellar experience.

Vegas 2 is easily the best in the long line of Rainbow Six games, and comes very highly recommended for any first person shooter fan looking for a challenge.

For a trip back to the well, R6: Vegas 2 proves an unusually excellent cash-in. I'd be lying, though, if I said that my two favorite levels weren't the prologue and epilogue, which both forgo the Vegas setting for a trip to an exotic locale.

That being said, the new multiplayer modes and gameplay are phenomenal and the subtle refinements to the title do make Rainbow Six Vegas 2 superior to its predecessor.

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 isn’t the best sequel ever made, but it’s still a great tactical shooter in its own right.
Rainbow Six Vegas 2 doesn’t feel much like a sequel. The limited development time has allowed for few improvements and a truncated, forgettable campaign. The good news is that the formula is so strong that it remains a compelling play.

Here we have a rock-solid action game, well balanced, particularly on the multiplayer and online options. However, Ubisoft will need more enthusiasm on the next chapter, mainly a change of scenery.

That being said, the story mode is just as long as the original and brings a satisfying conclusion to the plot, some of the new features like the sprint button and bullet penetration add a new dimension to gameplay, and the multiplayer suite is as robust as ever.

By coming at the city from a different angle and giving an extra richness to be the gameplay, the return to Vegas has been justified. [Apr 2008, p.62]
Gamer 2.0
The game relies too heavily on the events and effects of the previous title, and although there are plenty of neat new features to whet your appetite, the game hardly feels like a sequel and more of a downloadable add-on.

For those who haven’t taken a stroll down the streets of Sin City than you needn’t look any further than Rainbow Six Vegas 2, but those looking for a sequel that surpasses the original in everyway imaginable will be disappointed.

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is more than an add-on, but doesn't feel like a sequel either. The scenarios are similar, and the gameplay mechanics are practically identical. Enough ranting, though: In this game you can control your Alter Ego perfectly, the team commands work well and the scripting is well written. The difficulty levels are designed to give starters and pros a real challenge and keeps you glued to the screen for hours. Extra praise has to be given to the camera feature that lets you include your face into the game. Those who can live without innovations should make their way to Vegas again. It's worth the way.

If you played the first game to death and are absolutely ready for more, Vegas 2 is right up your alley, but all those similarities mean that you’ll probably burn out on this one a bit faster.

When it comes to tactical shooters, it’s hard to find anything better than this. While the previous title already offered brilliant gameplay, Vegas 2 still manages to introduce some minor touches that make it even better. But although it’s a great multiplayer experience it still doesn’t manage to deliver the definite co-op formula. [Apr 2008]
GameDaily
Even though there's very little change, Rainbow Six Vegas 2 maintains a steady balance of tactical command and shooting; the presentation lives up to Ubisoft Montreal's standard; and the single and multiplayer options will keep you busy.

If, like us, you found the first game a bit sticky and imprecise to play, you can rest easier with this sequel - this is a crisper experience. [Apr 2008, p.110]

But the gameplay is still as hard as nails and importantly, uses the same excellent cover system.

While Vegas 2 shows definite improvements over it predecessor, one cannot help but feel as though the title could have used another couple of months to get that Caesar Palace showgirl shine instead of coming out like a Caesar Palace cocktail waitress.

The gun-play is excellent, the production values are top notch and the multiplayer game modes will keep you coming back months down the line. As long as you're not expecting a complete overhaul of the gameplay seen in the original, Vegas 2 will provide plenty of terrorist hunting fun.

The idea of having the custom-character system working across the entire gme is a solid one, and the improvement in team-mate behaviour makes the single-player mode easier to digest. But as a sequel, Vegas 2 fails to deliver. [Apr 2008, p.58]

It's simply not as good as the last version. [Issue#164, p.82]
IC-Games
The game itself is quite good. Graphically it does look good, it sounds good, has a very good story line and the choice of weapons, the ACES system and online play are all top notch work from Ubisoft. But the game still feels unfinished and rushed out.

Team intelligence quirks, server issues in multiplayer, and a general sense that the game does little to improve upon the original leave it as a scant improvement.

The whole package feels like it should have contained a bit more, but since the foundation it's based [on] is so solid, you can't really complain about the core gameplay.
With "Denied Ops" dropping the Conflict ball and "Call Of Duty 4"’s snappy splendour drowning any tactical sense, it’s a likeable and distracting continuation, but one that won’t be difficult to usurp. [Apr 2008, p.90]
Gameplanet
The coop campaign mode is extremely challenging and fun to play, yet the best experience to be had with games like Rainbow Six Vegas 2 still resides online in the 16 player lobbies via multiplayer.

It refuses to take any meaningful gambles. Fans may enjoy having more of their favorite game, but they might also find it drab and boring after so much of the same.

Msedi W. gave it an8:
This game is great, but a repeat of the first one. They could have added :Off line Versus' to make an improvement. The graphics are good as well but not to different from the first. Another improvement they could have made was the was the physics. I agree that they were good, but with the power of the PS3 and 360, they could have made them much better. Also the blood looks like paint. But in all sense this game is great.
Ian R. gave it an8:
I haven't played the first RSV but being a fan of the Splinter Cell series I bought this for my PS3. Playing this directly after playing COD4 I must admit, initially I was slightly disappointed, I think mainly because the controls weren't as fast and fluid as Call of Duty. After a few hours play my oppinion of the game improved, the co-op with the other members of the team is great, the graphics are good and it's actually a pretty cool game, worth getting.
Will R gave it a4:
The single player is really good, but once you've completed it, the multiplayer just doesn't work! I got a good few eveenings out of this, but sold it after a week, as without multiplayer, it's just boring! Ubisoft need to sort it out and i can't be bothered to wait
Mas J. gave it an8:
R6V 1 was one of the best online games ever for FPS fans. This one maybe had too much to live up to after seeing COD4 but there are things that should have been fixed which weren't. Spawn camping is still possible, server connection drops, a bad lobby system where you spend half the time waiting for a game, and your so-called leet SWAT pro is still flagging around corners. There were cheaters in R6V 1 who had full armor with full mobility and bulletproof heads, can't tell yet whether the cheating has been fixed. Still, its a super fun multiplayer when it works so once a patch comes out it will be a 9/10 game.
Barry S. gave it a10:
Go Team, Go! I’ve always loved playing as a part of the Rainbow team, from the first game right on up to this one. The team A.I. is very good in this one, one of the best examples of the series yet. And you don’t have to rely on Team A.I., you can invite a friend to play co-op with you for the entire game. Now THAT’S teamwork!
Mel H. gave it a10:
I can't believe it's finally out! you wouldn't believe what i had to go through to get this game. i have 2 gamestops in my town, the first one i called and they said it was ALREADY SOLD OUT! so i rushed to the second store and it was in stock, but there was a line out the freaking DOOR waiting to buy it. long story short, i paid somebody up front to buy the game for me. so i paid the normal amount to get the game AND paid some guy $20 just do buy it for me!! anyhow, i have never been so pleased with a game in my life. it was hell getting it and i don't even care. best game of the year, probably best game of the last 2 or 3 years to be honest.
[Anonymous] gave it a9:
I’ve found this title to easily be the most riveting FPS experiences of my lifetime. The new covering system, maps, improved graphics, etc etc etc, have made the money very much well spent, and I can spend hours on this game with my friends online, or at home by myself in one-player mode. It’s really difficult to describe how exhilarating the gameplay is, especially with a good surround sound system, or with the lights out and a good pair of headphones. The audio, while not hyped at all during the time when the makers of the game were trying to pump it up, is vastly improved and adds to the experience as well.
