Summary
[Dowloadable Game] In Warhawk, players experience the thrill of white-knuckle aerial combat with hundreds of enemy fighters, bone-crunching armored assaults and high-intensity infantry combat in a massive, all-out war fought both on the ground and in the skies. During gameplay, players are tasked with protecting their homeland from the invading Chernovan armada. By doing so, players take command of the most advanced war machine in the fleet, the Warhawk, capable of aerobatic dogfights at high speeds or hovering over ground troops providing tactical support. Players continue the battle on foot with an arsenal of weaponry including pistols, rifles, grenades and more. Furthermore, players can gain access to an array of ground vehicles and lay waste with powerful weapons mounted on jeeps, tanks and specialty transports. Fight on Foot, in Ground Vehicles, or in the Sky – Next-gen multimodal design throws players into a deep gameplay experience. Fight in the war as a foot soldier, vehicle driver or ace pilot - whenever you want. Experience an Expansive Online Community – Players can join in epic multi-modal 32-person online battles, constantly evolving with downloadable content and a variety of online game modes. [SCEA]

Gaming Target
At $40 for the PSN file, it may be the most expensive downloadable game you buy, but it’s currently the best online multiplayer title to hit PS3.

In the end the company has created an excellent game with good graphics, great controls that you can change, and one that runs smoothly even with 32 people playing at once. Warhawk is truly a benchmark for the PS3 and easily one of the best games in its lineup.

If you've got a PS3 and an online connection, it'd be silly to miss out.

The constant pressure of combat, fuelled by rapid five-second respawns, keeps the action ripping along at a formidable pace. [Oct 2007, p.94]
GameZone
Simply put, Warhawk is what gaming dreams are made of and the reason you will want a PlayStation 3.

Perhaps the highest praise I can give the title is that despite Sony's concerns with overpricing a multiplayer-only game, Warhawk, lacking all single-player capabilities, is worth every bit of the full price for games of this console generation.

I'm taking a big risk rating the game as high as it is right now, and if for some reason things aren't worked out in the next week or two, this score is going to drop like a rock, but when the game works, it's absolutely amazing. Here's hoping makes it.

There is no doubt about it, Warhawk is a great game, and is one of the new reasons to go out and purchase a Playstation 3.

You're going to need the patience of Job to persevere in the early stages, but if you manage it then you're in for one of the best multiplayer experiences available.

With the amount of chaos the game throws at you, the options, and the diversity in gameplay, this one's a no-brainer. Warhawk is simply the s**t - and I highly suggest you ignore any naysayer who says otherwise.

It's a masterpiece of balance, of design, and the jewel in Sony's online crown.

Warhawk is an extremely well-designed online multiplayer game. We're sure that once the initial rush at retail has settled down a bit, regular fans of the game can look forward to a solid online experience with the great potential for future downloadable maps, skins and so on.

Highly addictive with a damn near perfect gameplay balance, Warhawk is the bomb. [Oct 2007, p.119]
GameTap
When 32 players go at it all at once, the intensity of firefights is over-the-top. Warhawk for PS3 deserves every good review it gets.

Warhawk provides one of the most compelling online experiences on the PlayStation 3. The visceral, fast-paced and often chaotic action fits the game perfectly.

With a full complement of rifles and grenades you're only as deadly as everyone else around you - pick a good clan (with headsets and tongues) and devote the time, and you'll have an absolute blast. Warhawk is easily the best multiplayer game this generation. There, we said it.

It definitely give PS3 owners something to tide them over until some of the bigger titles hit later this year and next year. I look forward to coming home from work and playing for 30 to 40 minutes and getting new ribbon or badge.

Warhawk is simple and tight net combat game. There is only five maps, which sounds bad, but the levels are huge. Everything works just fine and flying with awesome planes is sooooo fun. [Nov 2007]
IGN
It may be multiplayer only, it may not have bots, and it may have a steep learning curve, but Warhawk lives up to its billing: a AAA experience that is an adrenaline rush for online fans. Large worlds, balanced combat mechanics and impressively deep server mechanics help this fast paced game soar.

The 40 dollar download feels about 10 bucks too much on principle, especially with the lack of a single-player campaign and only five maps. But this is simply the best online experience on the PS3 as of now.

It seems a little odd to not have any single player options (outside of learning maps and practicing on a LAN game), but for those gamers that spend the majority of their time playing against others online, Warhawk is a good investment either way.

Warhawk is not groundbreaking, the developers will admit that, but what is there is the best of the best.

With some great graphics and great multiplayer gameplay, Sony and Incognito have made a great successor to the PSone original.

It's not easy to create a multiplayer game that's utterly accessible to first-timers and yet varied enough to have serious legs.

This game has a stripped-down feel, but the exciting gameplay certainly makes up for those feelings. This is blue versus red across multiple modes and maps, in the land or in the air. And it's excellent fun.

Sweaty-palm online gaming that gets better as teamwork develops. [Oct 2007, p.78]
Play UK
A remarkable addition to the Network roster, Warhawk is probably the most fun we've had with our PS3s yet. That said, some of the gameplay is uneven, but the dogfighting alone should sell this to you. It's a joy. [Issue#157, p.78]
Gaming Age
The complete lack of anything for single players hurts it a little bit, as does the unreliable stat tracking, though everything else is fine-tuned to near perfection.

At its best, Warhawk delivers constant thrills through exciting team-based action that’ll have you coming back for more if only to rank up to the next level in your leaderboard standings. At its worst, Warhawk will disappoint because you’ll never really get a good context or sense of the world around you, since there really aren’t any plot or characters to deliver those elements.

The game looks great, can be really addictive, and offers a variety of ways to enjoy the experience that Warhawk offers.
Read Full Review >Jolt Online Gaming UK
But if you are happy to play the game online all of the time and don’t mind an initially steep learning curve, Warhawk actually proves to be an enjoyable and engaging game; it’s arcade leanings making up for a slight lack of sophistication, and an impressive sense of scale making up for the lack of visual ‘wow’ factor. Overall, a surprise hit.
Warhawk is an excellent example of a multiplayer-centric game that almost anyone can get into. There is nothing complicated or revolutionary in the design, but the mix of combat styles, large maps, great controls, and a ready supply of players more than make up for the lack of originality.
As an action-shooter on the most basic level, there's little to fault, making for a better game of soldiers than you might expect considering the developmental angst.
It is a next-generation title at a last-generation price that boils gaming down to its purist form. Warhawk is a cheerily violent and fantastically developed version of playing with a dusty box of army-themed toys, and it is enormous fun.

A highly enjoyable game and one that’s easily recommended to those who crave competitive play with a good dose of chaos thrown in.
Read Full Review >Games Radar (in-house)
Price concerns aside, though, Warhawk packs a lot of depth into its rapid-fire multiplayer matches, and its sheer variety, rapid pace and endless fun make it a must-play for PS3 owners.

The controls for the plane are everything they should be, and echo most every other aspect of the game: a tightly polished product that is simply intuitive. Though the action became intense and sometimes frustrating, I was always ready to jump right back into the mix.

Incognito has taken the DNA of Battlefield and crafted a sublime online console game - a virtual battlezone that serves up more than its fair share of wonderful audio-visuals, but more than that, plays beautifully, with every game you play supplying a key gameplay moment that only online gaming provides.

Like many, I was pretty bitter at the loss of the originally planned single-player mode, but what Warhawk ultimately evolved into is a fantastic, accessible take on "Battlefield". [Oct 2007, p.94]
Edge Magazine
Warhawk’s manic pace makes for an instantly gratifying experience, and its brilliantly implemented notion of flight and considered balance among combat options more than compensate for the slenderness of its offering. [Oct 2007, p.90]
GameDaily
A superb online experience...a beautiful combat game full of breathtaking scenery and plenty of chaos.

It obviously won’t satisfy those looking for a long, deep, story or a rich customization palette. But it’s got enough adrenaline in its little heart to put up a remarkable fight.

Warhawk is no "Halo 2," but it's still the most compelling reason to take your PlayStation 3 online.

It's also not a game with much depth unfortunately - some added features would have made a solid enhancement to the already excellent gameplay.
Warhawk is an enjoyable online game that serves up a fast paced battlefield full of dynamic environments, fun vehicles and a handful of weapons. Incognito has polished their fighter jet to a shine, but the missed a few spots.
I have had both the best and worst multiplayer battles in this game because the game is balanced very well, but I can’t help but feel like putting a complete focus on multiplayer, and missing out on any tutorial system (besides the odd tip that pops up mid-game occasionally) will lose the game fans.
It's fun enough, but even with the headset, it's too expensive for a game that you cannot play by yourself, and its balancing issues severely limit what you can do in the game. [Oct 2007, p.77]

This Game Sucks gave it a0:
The graphics are terrible lets start with that, anything from the ps2 is better - the controls aren't bad but all u get is a pistol and u have to look for weapons to pick up and trust me, the weapons suck - yes it has vehicles but they don't seem right, tanks seem weak and slow - jets are fine but thats all anybody does so unless u plan on flying a jet around the whole time u wont see a single enemy on foot unless u make it into their base - overall not a fun game it just seems to sloppy and unrefined compared to some of the other war games
Peter J. gave it a10:
James J u just hate PS3 so don't write such lies. Warhawk is one of the best games ever !!!
Joshua B. gave it a9:
James J, what are you talking about? Warhawk is possibly the most solid online gaming experience you'll probably get! People don't like it because they always die! "How do I not die" you noobs ask. You learn! Like I had to for Call of Duty 4 online while i was cruedly being owned by rank 45s. Ok, lets focus here. Warhawk can be pretty amazing. Open ended battles, a range of vehicles, and among the vehicles is : The Warhawk. Flying in one of these is an absolute joy with great handling. It's also a real joy watching an enemy guard a base, decide to give up guarding, set off in their car, and you, behind a wall or something sneak up and take the base. Or there's times where on zones there is a massive battle for the middle base... ahhh, good times.
Ethan R gave it a10:
This game is absolutely perfect in every way. And xbox fanboys, do the world a favor and shut up.
Mark W. gave it a10:
The best game I have ever played in nearly 30 years of gaming. The game play is fast paced and extremely addictive. The learning curve is steep but once you get the hang of the game you will be hooked. Anything can happen in this game like swooping down in a plane and ramming an opponent who is driving a jeep and launching the jeep 30 yards in to the air into a mountain side or off a cliff into the water hundreds of yards below. You can also ride on the wing of an ally's plane since it can hover like a helicopter and snipe enemies from the clouds. The best part of the game however are the intense battles that utilize conventional methods of taking out enemies with a large number of weapons and vehicles. I've put in about 320 hours on the game and i know people who have played more than 1500 hours. This game doesn't get old and had the potential to be an epic masterpiece for Sony.
Alfredo S. gave it a9:
Warhawk is absolutely one of the greatest multiplayer games on the PS3 yet. Great controls, huge maps, and awsome gameplay. It somehow reminds me of the battlefield series.
Elsa gave it a9:
This game has stood the test of time. It is now about 9 months old and the servers are still busy. The devs are constantly adjusting the ranked servers in response to player needs and there is both free content and pay content available to keep the game fresh. The gameplay is highly addictive and the gaming community is friendly and fun (in no small part due to the care and attention of the devs). Well worth the purchase... even now.
