While WipEout HD is essentially a redressing of the previous PSP games, it's hard to complain when the source material was so good in the first place and the redressing is so assured. As a standalone title, WipEout HD would impress, but as a download title it's nothing short of essential.

For the price, it's almost impossible to find a game that offers what Wipeout HD does. State of the art visuals, excellent technical performance, a good amount of content, and those small touches like the trophies that finish to polish an excellent package. Perhaps the game looses a bit of its shock factor on people who already played Pure and Fusion in PSP, but the experience of seeing the tracks in this PS3 engine is worth of it.

Giant Bomb
The biggest problem with Wipeout HD is repetition. Eight tracks is a fine start, and a decent value for a game that's being sold for $19.99, but after running them forwards and backwards dozens of times, they can get old, though it's nothing that some DLC couldn't cure. Either way, this is more of a nostalgia trip than a reinvention of the wheel, but it's a well-produced one that might just snag a few new fans along the way.

Lukas G. gave it a9:
Wipeout HD is my favorite racing game for the PS3. The detailed tracks and Anti-Gravity craft make for some impressive visuals, but the game is so much more; It's a perfectly tuned racing game with weapons, boost and an extremely tight control scheme. For $20 this game is an extremely good value, but left me wanting for more. I would have liked to see modes focused on the weapons or with different damage/boost settings. The 8 different 'teams' available let you gather loyalty points, but they don't have much use beyond unlocking ship skins. On the other hand, the core racing is fast and extremely fun. That's a good thing, because the game becomes very difficult in the second half, so most players will have to retry the same races over and over in order to unlock more. The weapons and item pick ups seem a little underpowered, but that makes every elimination that much more exciting. I have never played a Wipeout game before HD, and I am now certain that I will buy the next game in the series. If you own a PS3 and like racing games, this is a great choice.

Tom Tom gave it a9:
WipEout HD is an excellent racing game that successfully combines beautiful presentation with an immensely fun game play. The graphics are very crisp, and at 60fps, they easily turn the game into a nice high-definition demonstration on your 1080p HDTV. The default sound is decent, but the sound really shines through the ability to play your own playlist as the soundtrack. Simply create your own playlist and indicate it accordingly in the menu - voila, now you're racing at insane speeds to AC/DC, Rage against the machine, or whatever your heart desires. The game play itself is fantastic: controls are tight, and respond well even to sudden changes in mid-turn. In the highest speed class, the insane speed of the game becomes incredible. Add to that some rather aggressive opponents in the highest difficulty level, and you have a game that is challenging and easy to obsess over. The only reason that I do not give this game a rating of '10' is that it is just a tad too short (8 tracks) for the perfect score. However, considering its very reasonable price and the tremendous amount of fun that is to be had while flying down these tracks and firing rockets at your opponents in mid-turn, it is one aspect that is easily overlooked. If you're looking for an impressive, super-fun racer, WipEout HD is an absolute must-have!

George M gave it a9:
Wipeout HD is a looong time coming, i remember seeing and reading about this game shortly after the release of the ps3. I've always enjoyed the WIpeout games and considered them to be a alternative to the the bright colorful futuristic racer that is F-Zero on the Nintendo consoles, i enjoyed Wipeout a bit more because of its more serious tone and physics. That aside, Wipeout HD is a TREAT for fans of the series with a buttery smooth 60fps and gorgeous 1080p visuals that will make you wanna hug your HD-TV. The music and sound effects are nothing amazing but they hold up to the graphics rather well. Controls are smooth and responsive and for newer fans they have a handicap mode to assist you in turns so you aren't bouncing around like youre in a pinball machine. Overall, im VERY pleased with this.....for nostalgia sake its a must to own this if you enjoyed games in the series as this is the definitive Wipeout experience with its slick graphics and excellent controls, and at $39.99.....it feels JUUUUST RIGHT.

aftab b. gave it a10:
At 1080p, 60fps, custom sound tracks, on the fly mixing, brilliant track design, blistering speeds, perfect controls, perfectly transitioned online play, online record boards, 2 player, dlc to come, all for 12 quid or 20 bucks, this game is a favor to those who missed out on the psp ports, and a gift to the fans of the series. Low ratings are only from button mashers.

Patrick G. gave it a10:
This game is so deserving of a perfect 10. It's the most addictive racer I've played since Mario Kart, Like that game, it keeps things simple, but it trades cutesy graphics for futuristic high tech ones, has an expansive single player campaign with lots of modes and unlockables, as well a pretty decent online mode. And it's only $20.00!!! SO worth a 10.

George P. gave it a10:
WipEout is back, better than ever. Gorgeous 1080p 60fps graphics, beautifully calibrated controls and the same brilliant gameplay that helped the playstation get the clubbing generation addicted.

Chris C. gave it a10:
Brilliant game, numerous modes, brings together the best of all the wipeout games into one.
