Only skilled cabbies need apply in Crazy Taxi: Fare Wars, where drivers are more aggressive than ever to earn the big dollars by speeding fares to their destination, no matter what the obstacles. Brand new multiplayer gameplay features provide endless entertainment where players can steal passengers from other cabbies by bumping their opponent's car and create chaotic competition on the road. Navigating through traffic, hills, and obstacles isn't easy, so it takes a skilled cabbie with no fear to earn the big bucks. Players can drive through the two original maps of Crazy Taxi, including the arcade map and the original Dreamcast map, both inspired by the steep hills, trademark cable cars, and breezy waterfront of San Francisco. Then they'll head for the Small Apple maps in "Crazy Taxi 2," which is inspired by New York's large building fronts, hectic downtown streets, and the city's famous Central Park and subway system. Crazy Taxi: Fare Wars offers cabbies several single player modes including the mission-based Arcade mode, where skilled drivers earn time bonuses, and Time Trial mode where drivers collect the highest fares possible in the time allowed. In addition, for cabbies to practice their crazy driving skills, two mini-game training modes are available. They include Crazy Box, a collection of 16 original Crazy Taxi mini-games and Crazy Pyramid, mini-games arranged in a pyramid that drivers must complete to unlock more mini-games from "Crazy Taxi 2." Game Chronicles
This is just one of those games you can pick up and play on a whim for two minutes or two hours. The game can get quite addicting as you try to shave seconds off your delivery time while sneaking in an extra jump or a few more yards of crazy drift.

This compilation has some graphical issues, particularly with lighter details and loads of pop-ups. However, the gameplay still works wonderfully, both with single-player and the new multiplayer games.

You're getting two solid games with brand new multiplayer content, the ability to save gameplay footage and a customizable soundtrack for $30. There are tons of games out there with larger price tags and smaller feature lists.

It’s a quick ‘n easy port of the arcade and Dreamcast games, which may be enough for fans who want Crazy Taxi on the go, but those of us not blinded by nostalgia will be frustrated by the game’s shortcomings caused by the choice of platform and the simple onset of time.

We enjoyed the series' addictively simple-yet-fun gameplay seven years ago, and we enjoy it just as much now. [Nov 2007, p.87]

Whilst Crazy Taxi has a number of technical issues, they don't add up to anything more than a minor inconvenience to the majestic mayhem, especially with a second player along for the ride.

The visuals are mostly bright and clear, although the occasional piece of disappearing scenery and some issues with pop-up dampen the fun. [Oct 2007, p.97]

A basic arcade game that we've seen many times before but it still has a certain appeal. [Nov 2007, p.83]

Like the various mini-games, these multiplayer modes are fun, but they have little lasting impact. In fact, the same could be said for the entire game. Due to the repetition of the gameplay, as well as the locations and the characters, it's best played in small doses.

Worth Playing
No matter how shiny the car's wheels, no matter how diligently you clean out the ashtray and how often you wash the exterior, it's just a big lump of metal unless you've got the engine running smoothly, and Crazy Taxi: Fare Wars fails in that regard.

Unfortunately, these new features don’t overcome the horrible driving controls, laughable braking, poor draw distances, and the complementary pop up. Only die hard fans of the Dreamcast series should give this game a look.

Fare Wars would be a respectable conversion of the arcade and Dreamcast classics had the developers managed to keep the speed -- and thus, the excitement -- in the game. Now Crazy Taxi just feels slow and clunky, and all the minigames and extra cities to explore in the world can't fix that.

If you've played Crazy Taxi and its sequels, then you've played this new version. It controls well, looks fine, sounds good...but it's Crazy Taxi, a game that is better off remembered instead of regurgitated.

If you don't fondly remember the first wave of Crazy Taxi games, steer well clear of this. However, if you fancy a taste of some retro driving action, this may be worth a purchase, but approach with caution and low expectations or prepare for a shock.

Wally B. gave it an8:
Bout time Crazy Taxi showed up on the PSP - it's been on every other platform. Good port of the arcade/DC version.

Andy G. gave it a9:
A faithful rendition of the Arcade/Dreamcast classic. The addition of multiplayer and custom music player allows this version to really stand out on its' own. Definitely would recommend to anyone looking for arcade style racing on the PSP or anyone who is a fan of the original from back in the day.

Matt S. gave it a7:
I wonder if these people commenting have even played the game. I played it in the arcade, on the DreamCast, and now on the PSP. The game controls fine, plays fine, looks fine, and works pretty much as you remember. I certainly haven't noticed any framerate issues. This is Crazy Taxi, and that's why it gets a 7... because CT has always been a fun but limited game.

Peter Y. gave it a5:
A poor port of a classic game. There are some constant framerate issues. Also, as with other racing games on the PSP, because of the widescreen format, it's kinda hard to see far ahead. What makes it even worse is that this is an extremely fast paced game and there are occasional pop ups. Throw in some framerate issues, jaggy graphics and you can have some serious problems. But I'm such a huge Crazy Taxi fan I can't give this game lower than a 5, I still enjoy this game and custom soundtracks is a plus. If you've never played this game before find a different version. If you're a diehard CT fan, it's worth a try.

Jon M gave it a6:
Low frame rate ruins what could have been a perfect port. Such a shame!

Michael S. gave it a2:
Very Buggy Port of Crazy Taxi 1 & 2 for dreamcast, the worst version yet.
