Summary
(Note: This is not a video game) Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is a 3D-rendered movie for the PSP. Set in the world of Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII, the movie follows Cloud as he unravels the mystery of the "geostigma" that he has become infected with by being exposed to the planet's lifestream energy. He and the other Final Fantasy VII characters have to lash back at the planet to save themselves from destruction.

IGN
The Making of Advent Children, is easily the best of all the features. In lieu of a commentary track, this is the only bridge between fans and the creation of this beautiful work.

It's an amazing technical feat that Nomura's team have pulled off here, and an impressive first foray into the alien world of movie making. Coming from a team that's used to making CG cinemas less than five minutes long, Advent Children is a surprisingly auspicious debut. Here's hoping they do it again.

If you're a fan of Final Fantasy VII, then this is the next best thing to a full-fledged sequel. If you aren't a fan, you'll still probably agree that it's an amazing visual experience.

The quintessential gaming flick it is not, but Advent Children still satisfies, both to fans and casual viewers.

A must-see for fans who want a glimpse at what happens when the game ends. However, I suggest it as a rental.

Eric R gave it a7:
It's script relies too heavily on the assumption you've played the games. (I did, but it was a while ago). Although, it was very well crafted. The editing, camera work, CGI, music, seam together, it's no doubt very well directed and made. Maybe my opinion will change if I play FF7 again.
Alessio P. gave it a2:
The storyline? Heal yourself from a deadly desease TAKING A BATH. Really, i'm not joking. The graphics? Well, i guess they are cool, actually, altough way too much "emo". Everyone is either depressed or a clown. Music? Yeah, it's ok. Overall, this blows: only a fanboy could like it, everyone else will surely notice it's huge shortcomings.
Danyl C gave it a9:
I thought the movie was fantastic. The only reason it drops a point is perhaps having a less-than-coherent plot (or maybe it was just the English translation). Maybe it wasn't the plot, though... Maybe it was the lack of explanation on certain things. By the way, Metacritic.com's description of the movie gets a 0 for getting the plot synopsis absolutely wrong. No one investigates geostigma; it becomes unraveled in the course of the film. The only ones trying to "strike back at the planet" are the villains, while the heroes logically try to protect it. Mention Sephiroth, dammit! The most awe-inspiring and fearsome villain of all time deserves to at least be mentioned.
Kael R. gave it a10:
This movie was the Final Fantasy movie everyone was waiting for. Spirits Within was an ok movie but there just wasn't anything Final Fantasy about it really. It was more or so like Halo mixed with spiritual influence from various religions. This movie however had what fans wanted, and that was actual homage to the games. Or call it fan service if you want to. The game they picked wasn't the most perfect but is the most loved out of all the others. Many people complain about the fighting scenes saying that they are too fast, I was never lost in the action and ended up being the one to fill in others who were watching it. Also there was no reason for the storyline to expand very much due to the fact that everything was covered in the game. Even those who didn't have much of a character in the movie didn't need more screen time because the movie wasn't about them. The movie was mostly about Cloud and his inner demons which were the results of what he'd been through in the game. All in all this movie was great and has become one of the most watched in my DVD collection.
Akeem G. gave it a4:
This movie is one of the reasons why I am no longer a big fan of final fantasy.what I hate the most about this movie were the fight scenes because the action was to fast and most of the time I coudn't understand what was was going on,it was very confusing, also the directing for the fight scenes could have been much more better. The music, voice acting and all scenes except for the fight scenes were all good though,it's what I would expect from people who mostly work on video games. The only parts of the movie that I really enjoyed was the fight scene with bahamut and the ending of the movie after the fight with sephiroth.
Jakub Ł. gave it a10:
This is, in my opinion, one of the best 3D-rendered movie i've ever seen. Fantastic battles, interesting storyline and very realistic characters. Also music is great, Nobuo Uematsu really done good job. I think you should watch it, even if you see words "Final Fantasy" first time in your life. Beautiful show.
Legend S. gave it a3:
Despite, or perhaps because of, my status as a great fan of the original Final Fantasy VII, I cannot bring myself to enjoy this movie. It took everything the original Final Fantasy VII plot was, then metaphorically ripped out its throat and threw glitter on it to make it pretty. I think it's fairly obvious that this follow-up was designed to be nothing more than two hours of flashy fan service, and if you haven't extensively played the original, don't even bother. Advent Children does nothing in terms of plot, music, characters, or story that makes it worth watching, instead relying on it's admittedly beautiful looks for enjoyment. Save yourself some money and just look up screenshots on the Internet if you want to get a feel for this one.
