If you consider Lumines to be just another puzzle game or a modern successor to "Tetris," you miss half of the games charm. You don’t see the forest from the trees, as the saying goes. It’s more than a innovative and addictive puzzle game. It lives though it’s incredible soundscape and visuals. It challenges your senses as well as your brain. Not a step, but a leap forward for the puzzle game genre. [Sept 2005, p 56]

Lumines is a game that many people will unfortunately ignore but we can almost guarantee once you've captured all the monkeys, won all the races in Ridge Racer, grinded all the boards and finished all the underground races, you will still be playing Lumines.

The dangerously addictive gameplay and numerous game modes will ensure that once you start playing you won’t be able to put your PSP down for a great while. Short 10-minute game quickies will rapidly turn into about three or four hour sessions, and then when you finally stop playing you will instantly begin to crave it all over again.

A solid puzzle game, but it really stands out from others in the genre due to its distinctive style. The fact that you have to devote so much time achieving a new high score to unlock things is one of its few faults, and when you wake up bleary-eyed in the morning because you wanted to finish your game before you went to bed, you’ll be cursing this fault.

While Lumines is far, FAR from a killer app, it's a must have game for the PSP. It has a simple design that hooks you for hours at a time without you even realizing what happened. That, my friends, is the hallmark of a classic puzzle game.

Minor lapses in cohesion and polish drop Lumines short of the absolute completeness of "Rez," but it expands upon its concepts in ways even Mizuguchi followers couldn’t have expected. It’s a block puzzle that celebrates the joy of light and sound – to the question of whether the PSP can encourage new experiences, it’s a resounding ‘yes’.

Lumines is taking over my life, but this is where the main flaw lies; the better you get, the longer it takes to complete one round. It's not unusual now that I've cracked the 100,000 points mark for one play to last an hour, which kind of defeats the whole quick blast of gameplay on the bus quality that games of this type usually have.

Caligula gave it a1:
I felt like the most retarded person on the planet after reading the reviews from game sites but now I realize that i'm not the only one who has this opinion. Give me Ultima 1, with dots and lines, and i'll play it without interruption for a month after i see even another screenshot of Lumines. Makes you believe that the next generation puzzle games will be given this kind of reviews: "ultra-hyper-gourgeos drawn sheep that dance extremely addictive and jump over a superb designed fence while you'll have the hounor of counting them and pressing the X button accordingly. A definitely must have for PSP owners!"

Garrick S. gave it a10:
Fun, challenging and visually interesting.

Nick gave it a7:
Extremely normal puzzle game. Changes music and graphics nicely, but at the end of the day its just a variation of columns from the gamegear done on the psp. ... and the good news for colourblind players is that it uses just two block colours, Note that it is just one puzzle, not a collection of different puzzle games. The different modes are variations on the theme.

Evan J. gave it a10:
I was a little skeptical at first. I didnt think it was possible for a concept so simple to be as spectacular as the reviews suggest. This game is the best puzzle game i have ever played. I cannot physically put it down, the batteries will run out before i retire for the day, thats the only way i will stop playing it! Finally! A game that makes tetris look like its 20+ years old! Oh wait, it is, and its about time!

Andrew N. gave it an8:
Love them or hate them puzzle games are 10 penny a go on PSP. Some are easy and others are stupidly hard. Lumines stands out from the crowd by being a unique and captivating puzzler. It takes ideas from the tetris formula but manages to create its own identity with the addition of skins and music which change every few levels. It also does a good job of keeping the difficulty balanced throughout. Highly recommended.

Assimov gave it a6:
Its a typical puzzle game, and like any other is addictive. Music and video, is no great for my taste and don't make me the playtime better. GameSharing only transfer a One Player Demo to the other PSP. So, don't give the buyer any value (that's not game sharing for me). Score Records, don't let the player select his name, for one console shared into a family. It can be OK buying it at low price, but there are many other puzzle games.

Brandon K. gave it a10:
Best Puzzle game by a country mile. A must have. You must be a mug not to like this.
