Unless you're still knee-deep in last year's game and can't spare the forty bucks, picking it up is a no-brainer. You won't find a better portable pigskin experience anywhere else.

The crown prince of the American football game, Madden is showing no signs of weakness as he enters his eighteenth year at the top. It may not justify disposing of 07, but this is a great time for newcomers to join the party.

The number of gameplay modes is sufficient to keep you going for months and the controls are nicely implemented.

With Madden 08 I enjoyed the Superstar Challenge the most since it allowed me to replay great games from last year in different ways. Visually the game is both solid and underwhelming at the same time.

While the Superstar Challenge Mode and the condensed Franchise mode actually work well for the PSP, the loads of lag during multiplayer play is atrocious. It's a good game, but not as impressive as last year's title.

The PSP version looks and feels like one of the big console versions of past years.

Superstar Challenge alone is worth it in my book. Those that are adjusted to the next-gen experience on the home consoles might find that the PSP version comes up a little short in the features department, but the gameplay is still tight. This is definitely the best PSP Madden yet.

In the end, if you're a football fan on the go, this one won't disappoint. There's plenty to tackle, and the returning minigames alone could get you from coast-to-coast without a moment of boredom.

Madden NFL 08 is a good handheld football game, but it offers little new content to make it worthwhile to those who already bought last year's game.

Madden NFL 08 for the PSP feels like the black sheep of the family, a game that wants to fit in so badly with the rest of the football clan but comes up short way too often to get there. Maybe next year we'll see a game with better timing throughout its presentation, a functional multiplayer set-up and more modes.
