GameShark

Its story is light-hearted and enjoyable; its music and setting feel spot-on; and the in-depth alchemy system is perfect for those who love to tinker around in their workshops. Still, it's a love of labor as much as it's a labor of love, and it's hard to feel like a lot more time was needed to fully optimize it for the PSP.

Kombo

Some RPG fans will fall in love with the story and characters, while others will curse the loading times and slowdown. It's a niche game, and it appeals to a niche audience.

Vandal Online

Because of the wide RPG library in PS2 and PSP, and sspecially in PS2 during his ten years of life, Mana Khemia can sneak modestly between hardcore Atelier Iris fans. There are not many surprises in this game, which is too conservative, but can offer some hours of fun.

Games Radar (in-house)

The biggest trouble of all is that Khemia borrows too much from earlier Gust games.

Playstation: The Official Magazine (US)

Which is too bad, because beneath the sluggishness, Mana Khemia: Student Alliance offers an absorbing school experience with quirky characters and a fun story. [June 2009, p.83]

GameZone

A poorly ported game that makes this a frustrating game to play rather than an enjoyable one like its PS2 original.

Worth Playing

This PSP version is a really weak port and definitely isn't the ideal way to experience the game. Pick up the PS2 version instead, and unless you're really dying to play Mana Khemia on the go, avoid this one altogether.

RPG Fan

Do yourself a favor, pass on the PSP port of this game and go find a copy of the PS2 version. Mana Khemia is a cute, enjoyable game - just not on the PSP.

Game Revolution

The main difference between the PSP port and its PS2 relative, aside from the terrible loading, is the inclusion of co-op monster battles. If you and a friend both have copies of the game, you can get together in a fight against a monster.

GamePro

The PSP version, however, has this incredibly unfun, dual-pronged fork-in-the-eye problem of too many pokey load breaks paired with one...h-ell of a...won---ky, fra-me...rate. There were so many times until I got used to it that I thought the game was just going to crash altogether.

Meristation

If we listen Mana Khemia, we associate the title with success and quality. However, the disappointment with Students Alliance takes priority over the rest of the saga. A wrong approach and a bad treatment of the history are the basis of this game.

Gamervision

It's a shame, because there's likely something deep within that's worth paying attention to, but it is surrounded so completely by problems that it simply cannot be worth the effort.

GamerNode

The original game was mediocre to begin with, and the PSP version only serves to degrade what was already a less-than-enrapturing gameplay experience in a nearly direct port that suffers from a myriad of technical issues. Avoid.

Cheat Code Central

Seriously, even if you are a fan of the original game, you will be hard-pressed to find the appeal of this title and will be disappointed in the end. Play the original, it’ll be cheaper and more entertaining in the long run.

RPGamer

The port's errors transform an average game into an abomination barely worth touching. Atelier fans that have not yet checked out this spinoff series or readers interested in the combat and alchemy should avoid Student Alliance and hunt down the PS2 version.

IGN

Do not buy this game. Do not look at this game. Do not think about this game and hopefully the sales will send the message that ports like this won't fly -- especially when stuff like Disgaea runs flawlessly on the PSP.

TotalPlayStation

Developers, let this be a lesson: a hastily-slapped-together port will not fly.

Gaming Nexus

The only reason you would have to buy Mana Khemia is if you are a huge fan of load screens and generic role-playing antics.

AceGamez

It is unfortunate that Mana Khemia: Student Alliance is such a technical mess because it might have offered some fun for those looking for a crafting-focused PSP game.
