Games Radar (in-house)

Impressively, the game takes full advantage of the PSP’s analogue stick giving it an incredibly responsive feel. You’re given a sense of total control over each vehicle and the subtle nuances between the cars and bikes are instantly apparent.

Midnight Club L.A. Remix looks very good on PSP. It has a perfect recreation of L.A. and Tokyo pictured into great details. The illegal car racing experience and the tuning culture are perfectly recreated. Worth Playing

The game is occasionally frustrating and is prone to a few bugs, but it's also easily one of the deepest, most immersive titles to come out on the system for quite some time.

Kombo

LA Remix is a luxury racing game. A lot of that comes from the excellent controls and the toned down difficulty.

1UP

Innovative only in its exceptional presentation, L.A. Remix is nevertheless a fast and furious jaunt through not one but two massive bergs, and it does just about everything a city racer could ever be expected to do within the miniaturized PSP environment. Despite its few foibles, this is a keeper.

Playstation: The Official Magazine (US)

Remix adeptly manages the considerable feat of blending over-the-top arcade-style performance with precise on-the-edge-of-control handling. [Jan 2009, p.81]

Game Chronicles

All gripes aside, handheld racing games do not get much more impressive than Midnight Club: L.A. Remix. If our major complaint is that a racing game is too fast – well, that’s something most hardcore gamers are willing to live with.

Midnight Club: Los Angeles Remixed is a worthy addition to the series even though it has a few stumbles here and there.

Gamervision

While the world could’ve been bigger, the pop-ups less frequent, and the graphics just a bit sharper, Midnight Club: LA Remix does just about everything else right.

GameZone

Deliciously satisfying and utterly stylish, Midnight Club: L.A. Remix is a solid racing PSP racing game and another great entry in the Midnight Club series. Yes, the hardware limitations hold it back a little but there are enough features present to make this one hell of a hot ride.

Boomtown

Midnight Club LA Remix is not perfect, the early races are two easy while the harder races can come with a sudden harsh spike in difficulty, the race markers I've already mentioned and draw distances can seems a bit short when traveling at full throttle, but i can forgive it all of this just for the smile it can put on your face when it all comes together and you get lost in the race.

Still brilliant. [Christmas 2008, p.86]

Gamer.nl

Midnight Club: LA Remix is a great arcade racer that plays surprisingly good on Sony's portable. It looks fantastic, plays delicious and on top of that the game looks more than finished with tons of races and vehicles. The game is worth every cent, especially for the asphalt lovers amongst you.

Thunderbolt

While it doesn’t really change the genre, even on the PSP, Midnight Club L.A. Remix is a worthy racer for fans of the street racing genre. With all the different options in the arcade mode and the unlockables, it has a lot of replay value, though the lack of online multiplayer is a downside, especially for a game in 2008.

IGN

A solid racing title that is partly held down by the PSP's hardware limitations. For example, it looks nice, but it can be hard to see stuff in the distance, like vehicles or potential shortcuts, and the city isn't as big as I would have liked it to be.

The cost of this is a forgiving difficulty level and racing that subsequently feels a bit anodyne compared to MC on PS3. [Christmas 2008, p.119]

Cheat Code Central

Midnight Club: LA Remix delivers an extremely proficient racing experience. However, potential boons for the game – like the open world and RPG-like leveling system for your car – are its biggest problems.

Pocket Gamer UK

LA Remix is as polished as the bonnet of a freshly-waxed Lamborghini Murcielago and almost as fun to drive thanks to tight controls and enjoyable wheel-to-wheel racing. Sadly though, the ride is ultimately marred by a distinct lack of variation.

Same (boring) racing system during player’s career as in the PlayStation version on one side but marvelous graphics and fantastic sound effects with two living megacities on the other. [Dec 2008]

Kenton S. gave it a7:
I have only played this for an hour or so, but I can give this game at least a 7 for a few reasons. Amazing soundtrack; all the latest from the hardcore dance scene. Smooth gameplay and decent destructible system. It does say show your doors and hood flying off like in games such as Flatout or Burnout. But it does have what seems to be more realistic physics. On the downside, it's very strange that there is these mariocart style power ups though. One minute I'm playing this street racing title, and the next I am 'shocked' by my opponent causing my controls to be inversed!

jon-jon gave it an8:
If other developers put half the effort that Rockstar do into psp titles then I'd be a very happy bunny. This is the first of the Midnite Club titles I've played so I can only judge it on its own merits. I love it. Brilliant soundtrack and effects and wonderful presentation, graphics and gameplay make this one of the best driving games I have played yet. Time will tell whether I tire of it but for now I am absolutely loving this - 8/10.
