The game of baseball is represented perfectly in MLB 06: The Show, and not only is this a candidate for best baseball game of the year, but possibly best sports game as well.

Yes, we can still dream of online leagues and a real franchise mode, but what we have here is very impressive, and gives you thanks that there’s no exclusive license in baseball.

If you're a sports fan with a PSP, my advice is simple: Buy MLB '06, bring it home, pop in that UMD, and enjoy real baseball excitement all summer long.

Quite easily, the best baseball game on the system. Even with its minor flaws, it combines all the simlike statistical realism true ball hawks crave while throwing in additional modes of play to keep those with shorter attention spans enthralled.

Sony gears up to the baseball season with an impressive show, delivering console-quality gameplay and visuals on the sleek handheld.

Crafting one of the best versions of their game in years, 989 Sports also succeeds in crafting one of the best games currently on the market.

It would take a Ruthian effort to send this game down to the wild card spot in a two team division.

It is a great handheld game that we can say with confidence is worth the full retail price.

Despite not having a few of the features that its PS2 counterpart has, MLB '06: The Show for the PSP is a rock-solid baseball sim and a delight to the senses.

Graphically, this game is very impressive. The players are very detailed and have lots of nice animations. The players can even get their clothes all dirty. Everything looks and feels realistic and players will actually feel like they are in a baseball stadium.

In the end, MLB '06: The Show is a definite MVP-killer--which might explain why EA didn't even bother with baseball this year. [May 2006, p.86]
GameZone
Quite simply the best handheld baseball game you’ll own on the PSP. Think of this more as a tighter, extended version of last year’s game with shaper visuals, better sound and a Career Mode anyone who calls themselves a baseball fan will simply go bonkers over.

The core gameplay mechanics remain in tact and the presentation is as solid as ever. Combine that with the addition of several new and improved game modes, such as Career Mode, Multi-Season Mode and King of the Diamond Mode, and you’ve got a baseball simulation that is sure to entertain baseball fans throughout the entire season.

This one is easy, MLB 06: The Show has the goods to satisfy and baseball fan. The gameplay has been nailed.

MLB 06: The Show is not only the best PSP baseball game, but also, in this reviewer's opinion tops many console franchises. The level of depth, the exceptional presentation, attention to detail, and high quality visuals add up to basically everything a baseball fan's gaming fantasy come true.

A solid package that offers the authentic gameplay, intricate controls, slick visuals, and unflappable commentary that MLB fans crave.

The controls are tight, the visual presentation polished, and the gameplay is better than ever.

It's surprisingly robust and impressive, especially compared to its competition.

It's a shame the online stutters so horribly and we have to wrestle with the analog nub to get our pitches where we want them to go. Yankees or BoSox, everyone can agree that MLB 06 is worth picking up on PlayStation Portable.

MLB 06's addictive gameplay, phenomenal commentary, and sharp graphics make it the best baseball game on the PSP and a front runner for sports game of the year.

Unlike last year's model, it has a career mode that supplements its season and exhibition play. [Jun 2006, p.90]
GamingExcellence
It’s definitely one of the best baseball games I’ve come across since my glory days of "The Majors Pro Baseball" on the GameGear.

This year’s outing of MLB ’06 is a solid baseball game with plenty of features built in specifically to appeal to the PSP market.

The only noticeable downfall to this game was that the sharpness of the PSP's screen (usually a very positive thing) overly emphasized some of the weaknesses in the graphics engine while the sound was noticeably toned down from the PS2 version.

The deep season, clean online play, and new Career mode are all big additions, and make The Show an easy call.

I was harsh towards the console version, and although this edition shares many of its faults, it's still pretty good. [Apr 2006, p.133]

Like Scott Spezio, this game is worth having on your roster until a better one comes around. [May 2006, p.96]

Nate R. gave it a9:
The game is fun, the graphics are not the best, its i love career mode, i like that you can train your own guy to be the best, i like that you have the option to mouth off to the coach. It is one of the best baseball games ive played
Kevin O. gave it a10:
This game rocks! I'm addicted. The Chicago Cubs might actually win the World Series on this thing. Isn't that a sign of Armageddon?!? Where's my pants? Man, this thing is cool. I love this game.
McBain 17 gave it a10:
Don't listen to the guy at the bottom, this IS the best baseball game I have played in years. Worth every penny.
James M. gave it a9:
This game is as close to perfect as you can get. Most impressive is the ability to read balls & strikes - something I have not been able to do with any other baseball simulation. Since the pitcher / batter dynamic is the heart of baseball, this game succeeds in making the experience of playing like real baseball - not a computer game.
Veit gave it a10:
I have all (four) baseball games for the PSP. MLB06 The Show is the best!
Mike S. gave it a10:
This is the best portable baseball game by far. Great depth and player stats make this one of the best sports games of the year. Although it is not as good as its console bretheren. It does stack up pretty well and it is still an exellent game. If you like baseball and you own a sony psp, this game is a must buy. With head-to-head online modes and real life trading updates and even news from your favorite baseball team right on your psp!
Bob B. gave it a9:
its a great game for baseball lovers.
