Summary
Sequel to the Valhalla Knights, Valhalla Knights 2 promises to give fans of the original game a vast and expansive world to explore, and the customization tools to create the ultimate battle party. This action RPG (Role Playing Game) sequel adds new races, job classes, weapons, magic spells, foes, armor and more to the Valhalla Knights universe, within an engrossing story arc. Controlling and choosing character aspects such as skills, race, and appearance, players can engage in real-time 6 on 6 battles, reliant on tactical combat strategies to achieve success. Supporting 2 player ad hoc network play, gamers can engage in Co-op and Versus modes with friends, or simply trade items and weapons. [XSEED]

With more than forty hours of gameplay, a "versus" mode for you to battle friends, and a difficulty that is stout, Valhalla Knights 2 is one of the best buys you're likely to find on the PSP for quite some time.

Undoubtedly, there are quite a few aspects of Valhalla Knights 2 that action RPG fans will find very appealing, but it ends up being a wash when you look at the game's numerous faults. In short order these issues wear what little fun is to be had down to a dull point.

While it has several good points including a large character creation system with tons of items, armor and weapons.

Like most RPG’s, you’re going to get a lot of hours of gameplay out of this one. You can expect to take your party of six out for forty or fifty hours before you’re done. The problem is there are a lot better options out there and so this one just ends up being average.

Valhalla Knights 2 does nothing with the power of the PSP and is a rather bad game to boot.

With the same quest and exploration issues from the first title, as well as lots of micromanagement problems and missing information, Valhalla Knights 2 almost feels like a rehash of the original title with a brand-new coat of paint.

So once again, this fledgling series fails to impress, and while I get the idea behind the game and the mechanics that it's going for, it just feels like a lot of the elements are unnecessary and a bit too archaic for my tastes.

Even with its impressive character customization options and solid visuals, Valhalla Knights 2 falls short of being a must-own title on the PSP by a very wide margin.

Seriously, if this dungeon crawled any slower, it'd be going backward. [Dec 2008, p.82]
GameSpot
You'll find monsters, loot, and frustrations galore lurking in the shadows of this tedious dungeon crawler.

While some hardcore dungeon-crawler fans might get some enjoyment out of Valhalla Knights 2, I'd rather skip the grinding and play a game where the combat accentuates my exploration of a rich, engaging world.

Runiglymp Throwbachus gave it a6:
It's amazing how much better researched and thought out RPG Fan's positive review is in comparison to the neophyte negative reviews. The lucidity with which the gameplay, cutscene content and battle system limitations are explained puts the rest of the reviews on this page to shame. VK2 is a challenging game with a story written in by Final Fantasy XII's Miwa Shoda. The contempt for Xseed seems to amount to this: the game is sufficiently hard to wound most reviewers' masculinity. They can't play it, so they condemn the very elements that elevate the game: difficulty, excellent artwork and cutscenes, better than average storytelling. No one has bothered to write a walkthrough yet, which means ordinary users can't brag about finishing in 10 hours in gamefaqs forums. In the old days, every player had to slot through without help. This is a game fit for those days. One thing I'd change about the game is the battle system. You have to continually reset the player's angle during battles or s/he runs off attacking some corner of the battlefield while being assailed by an enemy. That isn't enjoyably difficult, it's an unnecessary glitch. It's also the reason I gave a good action RPG with a good story a mere six stars.
Ivan L gave it a2:
Valhalla Knights 2 only promises to give fans a humongous disappointment. Most games dont live up to the hype, but Valhalla Knights 2 takes it up one more level: It completely falls short of the hype. All the problems and glitches that were in the original still persist, and the fact that the world is bigger only serves to make those problems loom even larger.
retroX gave it a3:
I usually love this type of game, but this one is particularly awful in just about every way aside from the graphics. Stats are presented but not adequately explained, the combat is fun to watch but not satisfying at all to participate in, and the exploration suffers from lack of a decent checkpoint system and hours of dull backtracking. Strike two for this series.
Knightnyt3 gave it a5:
Another disappointment from xseed. I thought they would have read all the reviews on the first game and would have overhauled on the 2nd one.. its still the same.. has the same problems as the first one..well if you guys like exploring fighting exploring fighting and more exploring and fighting this games is for you.. and by the way you might not notice there's a story here and so they say.
