Summary
[WiiWare] BIT.TRIP CORE continues the BIT.TRIP saga in this retro-arcade-style game. BIT.TRIP CORE adds up to an exciting action/rhythm game that's best played while zoning out on the tunes and letting the visuals swallow you whole. The experience is inspired by games from the '80s, but with a modern twist. The game play is entirely new to the series, leaving the single-axis controls of BIT.TRIP BEAT behind in favor of the ability to control two axes. If the difficulty gets you down, grab a friend and play cooperatively with two-player multiplayer. Make it to the end and you'll have journeyed one step further to completing your BIT.TRIP. A great Wii Ware title, and an excellent follow-up to Beat, and definitely more my cup of tea than the original.

On the outside this may look like just another flavor of Bit.Trip Beat, but don’t let that sway you. Even though artist Gaijin used the same colors of paint on their canvas, the result is wonderfully different.

Core is compelling enough keep me playing it for a long time. Beat fans, music game fans, shmup fans, retro fans, fast-paced puzzle game fans, and anyone who's interested in playing a truly one-of-a-kind title should pick up Core post-haste.

It’s a welcome reprieve from games with highly complex battle systems or overwrought narratives, and takes you on a beautiful, if occasionally frustrating, trip.

Bit.Trip.Core is a fun and challenging game, especially for only 600 Wii Points.

Bit.Trip.Core is a prime example of a downloadable game done right. It’s addictive, provides a challenge, and most importantly, it’s cheap.

The modern and 8-bit worlds collide again as old school arcade gameplay is given a new twist.

All in all, with Bit.Trip Core you're getting a good game for a good price that simultaneously looks backward into gaming's brief but storied past and forward to a genre that's finding itself more and more popular.

Bit.Trip Core is another solid entry in the Bit.Trip series, but it maintains most of the issues of its predecessor (long levels, difficulty, busy visuals). If you loved Bit.Trip Beat, getting this is a no-brainer.

It takes you about three seconds to learn how to play it and it takes quite a few mistakes before you hit a game over, but this is a remarkably intense, challenging game.

Bit.Trip Core has simple gameplay, challenging difficulty and an endless fight for the biggest scores. Get ready to get addicted.

While some of the new has obviously worn off the BIT.TRIP experience and the high level of difficulty will likely turn some gamers off right from the start, it's still difficult to fault BIT.TRIP CORE's unique and engaging gaming experience.

One just wishes that the game went on for a bit longer, but for 600 Wii points it does a good job of delivering a solid amount of entertainment for what you might be able to find digging through your couch after you are done bobbing along to the mus

It's not quite as enjoyable as its predecessor but still a quirky, fun game. [Nov 2009, p.102]

Bit.Trip Core is an excellent addition to the WiiWare library, and a great addition to the rhythm genre.

If you were a fan of Bit.Trip: Beat, Core is another awesome package that’ll last you a few good hours for a slim 600 point price.

Core fits into the series quite well and makes me curious as to what other old arcade game will be tackled in the inevitable third Bit.Trip game.

The psychedelic sequel to Bit.Trip Beat improves upon its predecessor and has an entirely different sort of rhythm shooter action.

Very similar to the first game of the series (Bit.Trip Beat), this chapter has nice visuals and a good soundtrack.

A rare bit of vindication for Nintendo's oft-misused service. [Sept 2009, p.101]
GamerNode
If you like rhythm games and want a challenge, then by all means try it. If you're more the casual rhythm guy or gal, stick with the plastic instruments.

Shawn L. gave it a10:
Easily one of the best WiiWare games yet and as good as BEAT was, CORE is even better.
Rich M gave it a10:
Great inventive game. Fun game play and awesome music! Would recommend highly.
K Bud gave it a10:
The first Bit.Trip was a grueling masterpiece. This installment turns up the difficulty one more notch while offering a completely new play control. Those frustrated by the motion control of the first game will like that the new one is controlled by the d-pad in all it's "waggle-free" glory. The atmospheric Bubblyfish opening music makes it almost seem more tense. My only complaint is that I can't get out of my mind that I would rather have played this title with the Classic Controller or the Gamecube Controller but neither were options. Overall an awesome title for only 600 wii points.
