Combining the hottest music hits from around the world with the coolest dance moves and total character customization, Boogie SuperStar provides girls the ultimate gaming experience: to sing and dance their way to superstardom. Boogie SuperStar features more than 40 songs made famous by popular artists such as Rihanna, Fergie, Katy Perry, Maroon 5, Leona Lewis, Alicia Keys, Good Charlotte, Britney Spears, Kanye West, and more. Another 30 songs are available on International versions of the game, allowing players to perform songs from local artists including Melissa M (France), Monrose (Germany), Finley (Italy) and Fito y Fitipaldis (Spain). Players don't just play along, they are the star of the game. Girls will have a blast belting their favorite tunes into the microphone, and performing real dance moves that are captured on screen using the Wii's motion-sensing technology. With two- and four-player modes, girls can play with their friends sing and dance with their friends or against them in fun competitions that show-off their singing and dancing talent. Players begin the game by customizing their character, choosing from millions of possible combinations to create a performer that is as unique as they are. They are then "discovered" and whisked away to an island where they learn what it takes to be a star. While on the island, players build their singing and dancing skills, performing in posh environments fit for a rising star, including a studio, a poolside stage, a breath-taking terrace, and a yacht. Once performance skills are perfected, girls are ready to perform for a panel of judges in the ultimate competition, the Boogie Star Show. [Electronic Arts]

The interface is fantastic, with a dynamic interplay between push button functionality and the smooth traction we’ve all come to expect when dragging icons across the screen and flinging about with gay abandon as the Wii commands.

A really solid game that is fun to play. Mainly aimed at younger girls than the wider audience Singstar appeals too.

Does what it does very well indeed. [Christmas 2008, p.98]

Teen girls will really enjoy this game, especially in groups. A definite hit for any party or get-together. While there could have been more variety in the type of content, what is here is solidly designed and appealing. Much better than the previous Boogie, Boogie SuperStar is a good choice for any family with young teen girls.

Whether EA has taken the whole locked content thing a step too far, or just not taken the main play mode far enough, it’s a relatively minor fly in an otherwise well produced ointment. An ointment of pop music, singing and dancing, if you will.

Boogie Superstar is, even with its share of flaws, an entertaining game. That you sometimes have to sing in a different language is a little bit sloppy from EA, but then again the whole singing part is far from optimal. Thankfully the game offers you the most satisfaction in the dancing part of the game. Buy the game for your sister or your girlfriend, they will enjoy the sweet pop entourage and will have a great time with some friends and a big bag of popcorn.

But if there ever was a girl-centric game, this is it--for better or worse. [Dec 2008, p.94]

This one's definitely for the (pre-teen) girls.

As a full reinvention of last year's game, it addresses many flaws and shortcomings, yet it's also lacking some of its predecessor's spirit and is so tightly focused on a specific demographic that it's unlikely to have broad appeal.

As a music game, Superstar is disappointing, but as all-singing entertainment for pop-fan girls it's solid stuff. [Jan 2009, p.71]

Boogie SuperStar feels like a game that should have been more enjoyable than it actually is. The right group of kids will likely get a lot of fun from its singing and dancing gameplay, but we're not sure that EA has managed to successfully combine the two aspects as well as we'd liked.

Boogie tries so hard to make you feel like a superstar. Unfortunately a poor Karaoke mode and arduous model for unlocking tracks makes the fun go right out of the window (along with the microphone).

It's extremely hard to recommend a series sequel that struggles to improve upon an already weak original.

Which just about sums it up. Like the original game Boogie Superstars offers very little fun for grown-ups, even if you're spectacularly smashed. That said, it's more polished than its predecessor, the gameplay has been improved and I'm quite sure that aged nine, I'd have thought it was brilliant.

Boogie is a decent dancing game, paired with an awful karaoke game.

Worth Playing
The mix of singing and dancing is obviously a pretty natural connection, but if it's taking away from making at least one of those components excellent, then the whole thing just goes awry.

Boogie Superstar has probably gone the right way in terms of style for the audience, even though we preferred the charms of the original cast, and the dance sections are much improved over the original's, but if there's to be a third Boogie some time down the line the tracklistings they're going for will have to go through some major reconsideration; and a few non-cover songs, or at least better covers, wouldn't go amiss.

Boogie SuperStar essentially has two parts. The decent dancing section and the horrible karaoke, and unfortunately the former doesn’t fully excuse the latter.

My daughter and her friends really love this game. I had some explaining to do when she caught me singing with my wife late at night.
