Utilizing the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare engine, Call of Duty: World at War throws out the rulebook of war to transform WWII combat through a new enemy, new tactics and an uncensored experience of the climatic battles that gripped a generation. As U.S. Marines and Russian soldiers, players employ new features like cooperative gameplay, and weapons such as the flamethrower in the most chaotic and cinematically intense experience to date. Call of Duty: World at War introduces co-operative play, bringing fresh meaning to the "No One Fights Alone" mantra with up to four-players online for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, or two-player local split-screen on consoles. Nintendo Wii will also support a unique co-op mode for two players. For the first time ever players can experience harrowing single-player missions together for greater camaraderie and tactical execution. The co-op campaign allows players to rank up and unlock perks in competitive multiplayer by completing challenges and earning experience points, adding continuous re-playability and team-based gameplay. Whether playing competitively or cooperatively – if players are online with Call of Duty: World at War – they always gain experience points. Based on a player’s experience rank and rank of the player's friends, Call of Duty: World at War scales dynamically to provide a deeper level of challenge. [Activision]

Arguably the best WWII game ever. Simply put, if you like first-person shooters this is absolutely essential.

The single-player campaign involves a riveting and emotional story, and the inclusion of co-op is fantastic. The game itself however is heavily weighted towards multiplayer, as was its predecessor.

Overall, with Call of Duty: World at War, Treyarch successfully did two things: they made World War II shooters relevant again and brilliantly followed up one of the best games of this generation. On the Wii, they also successfully modified a very technically demanding engine to less powerful hardware.

ong after players have finished the solo mode, they’ll still be enjoying the best online multiplayer game for the Wii.

Wii is the perfect console for FPS games for obvious reasons. Treyarch did a great job in Call of Duty: World at War, but don't expect a revolution on the genre.

All told, Call of Duty: World at War is a great first-person shooter and undoubtedly among the best that the Wii has to offer.

Minor graphical flaws remain, the controls still sit below the standard set by EA’s shooter, and, feature-wise, Wii owners are left with the short end of the stick. Even with these setbacks, this is still the best first-person shooter on Wii.

It would be easy to let the gameplay stop you from wanting to play Call of Duty: World at War, but there are just so many other things the game has to offer. If you own a Wii and are confident in your Wii remote abilities than this is an excellent game to pickup.

Call of Duty: World At War for Wii has been developed thinking of the potential of the Nintendo console, being better than the thrid installment of the franchise. The atmosphere is amazing with brilliant audiovisual components. It's a great experience in the campaign mode but the multiplayer is limited. The best World War II shooter for Wii.

Call of Duty will always sell big based on its name alone, so kudos to Activision and Treyarch for not phoning this one in. [Jan 2009, p.91]

IGN
Call of Duty: World at War isn't a perfect FPS on Wii, and when it all boils down, you can find a better controlling game - one with a slicker framerate, too - in EA's "Medal of Honor Heroes 2." What you won't find in Heroes though, or in any other Wii FPS to date, is a package that's this cinematic, this intense, this character-driven, unapologetically brutal, or as varied and intense as World at War.

Unfortunately, co-op multiplayer and the Zombie Mode didn't make the cut. World At War on the Wii ends up a distant second to the PS3 and 360 versions, but it's still a fun shooter.

Matthew M gave it an8:
Call Of Duty: World at War is a very good game, unfortunately, it does have its drawbacks. Wii-players are still waiting to find an awesome FPS, like the ones on other consoles, but COD5 is definitely a step in the right direction. I also have a problem with the Co-Op Campaign, which is nothing more than a second cross hair. Maybe this is par for COD games, but it doesn't make it any less disappointing. All in all, one of the best shooters out for Wii, and the campaign is loads of fun, with a multiplayer to provide hours of more fun.

google freedom to fascism gave it an8:
Not the best controlling FPS on the Wii, MoHH2 still holds that, but this is pretty good. The fast action is nice, it flows very well with some stutters as the FPS fall during high action sequences, not enough to kill the level of immersion the game affords though. Worthy addition to the FPS library on the Wii.

CODWAW Reviewer God gave it a7:
If I compare WaW to other wii fps then this game would be beat all other hands down. However, when you compare COD5 to itself for other platforms, it falls short of expectation. COD5 for the wii doesn't have split-screen, zombie mode, vehicles. COD5 for the wii also has less maps and online game modes to choose from (ex. Search and Destroy, War, Capture the Flag, etc.).

Andrew C. gave it a4:
8-player multiplayer? No co-up, vehichle mode, or zombie mode? Very disappointed, Treyarch :( Despite its riveting single player, the multi-player aspect of WaWii is definitely found wanting, and is certainly a step backward from titles such as MoH2.

DJ T gave it a10:
I used to think medal of honor heroes was one of the best WW2 fps's on the system. Obviously the wifi made the game last well beyond the single player. My only complaint was the few maps for the online play. It got prety monotonous playing the same maps - seeing people going to the same places to pick people off etc etc. I was refreshed to find this COD title. It's a refreshing change from what became so stale with Medal of Honor. I like the faced pace often brutal combat you face. It's also nice to see some pretty decent realism. Medal of Honor was a little far fetched, and pretty scripted. COD has a lot more of a frantic AI feel about it. It's not about racking up points, it's just about survival - not running out of ammo, picking up a rifle off the ground, staying low, and just trying to make it thru the level. If you want a change from Medal of Honor, something with a little more grit, go for COD. It's my WW2 go to game on the Wii, now.

Kaya I. gave it a9:
Excellent game, cant stop playing it. Amazing single player mode and an even better online mode.

Yosouf M. gave it a9:
An absolutely fantastic FPS game for the Wii. While it doesn't have everything the 360/PS3/PC versions have (limited co-op mode, no split screen multiplayer, no zombie mode, etc )due strictly to hardware limitations, it still has great controls, a memorable story mode, and by far IMO the best online multiplayer FPS experience so far for the Wii!
