Using a traditional DDR dance pad in conjunction with the Wii Remote, DDR Hottest Party requires players to match controller movements with the remote and Nunchuk attachment, as well as dance steps. The game also supports up to four players in multiple game modes and minigames. In addition to the series' free play and workout modes, Hottest Party challenges players to dance in synch with one another, as well as offer a new support mode and an updated battle mode. The game also sports a new soundtrack with songs pulled from the last four decades of popular music.

DDR Hottest Party is the quintessential game in the series. . It gives you quite a workout, and the new features are truly new and make it worth a purchase. Don’t miss this one.

Fans of dancing games won't be disappointed. [June 2008, p.74]

NintendoWorldReport
Not only is Dance Dance Revolution: Hottest Party the first traditional DDR game to hit a Nintendo platform, it also may be the best version on any platform yet. It's incredibly refreshing to see a new incarnation of this game have such a great set of new modes to go along with the tried and true.

Dancing Stage Hottest Party has some nice handtricks, special arrows and amusing discohits. Too bad the game modes are a bit on the slim side. [May 2008]

Dance Dance Revolution has been luring gamers off their sofas for years, making the franchise a perfect hit for Wii fans. [Nov 2007, p.105]

While the game keeps its proverbial foot-tapping format, players must also wave their arms using the remote and nunchuk. New gimmick icons also enhance the gameplay, particularly the frozen arrows (which require two successful foot stomps) and confusion blocks.

Game Chronicles
I think it had some great additions, but the grading was discouraging because it seemed to be a little harsh.

As a Nintendo gamer I am glad that this Nintendo system has earned itself a ‘true’ Dance Dance Revolution game, even if I was a bit disappointed with the Wii specific controls which I disable every time I turn the game back on (I am not sure why the game was designed to not save that setting).

Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party is a solid entry in the series and a great place for the uninitiated to jump in.

IGN
The addition of helpful tutorials, party-based mini-games and items, and a more casual-centered track listing makes it a perfect package for newcomers. If, however, you were looking for a true DDR experience, you won't find it just yet on Wii.

This game is pretty much like all the other DDR games, but doesn’t offer quite as many features as past versions. The campaign mode is weak, and the overall strategy is lacking. However, the actual dancing is as fun as ever.

With its ability to attract new gamers, the Wii is a perfect home for Hottest Party, which may be the most mainstream-friendly series entry in years.

Even by simply adding a little waggle to the dancepad, DDR: Hottest Party could have been a great game. Unfortunately, thanks to the god-awful setlist and generally poor presentation, it makes us want to take our dancing shoes elsewhere.

Worth Playing
Ultimately, Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party for the Wii has ended up erasing about four years of progress within the genre. The improvements have been replaced with unnecessary and annoying gimmicks galore, which only make it look that much worse when compared to the latest rhythm offerings, Guitar Hero III and Rock Band.

Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party could stand to be a lot hotter, and a lot cheaper. For 70 dollars you get the disc and the dance mat, but you need to shell out at least 20 more dollars for a second mat if you want to go head-to-head with friends.

Dance Dance Revolution: Hottest Party is a mildly fun DDR game with Wii-mote functionality thrown into the mix. Unfortunately, it just feels so standard.

anonmyous gave it a3:
You can't change the speed? what is that?i thought it was supposed to be enhanced. very disappointed... but some of the songs are good, coldplay is on there

Jordan L. gave it a6:
A lot of the music doesn't match up to the arrows, hard to keep up i that way, but i love the exercise program!

Benihana B. gave it an8:
Much improved. The gamecube version had a horrible song list. The fact that they have 4 decades of music makes it fun for young kids to grandparents....(whose don't love disco). The hand controls are a little inaccurate and clumsy. Still a fun option if I could ever master the game... Exercise mode is nice, but does not keep your heart beat up for long periods of time...more like a sprint than a 20 minute race I love the fact that I now have 2 pads that work for both game systems...Smart move Konami/Nintendo.

Andreas R. gave it a5:
The single player campaign feels very unpolished. It is very easy to get to about 50% (EV Boss Battle in the first round), however, the difficulty level doubles from one moment from another. Also, the difference between "Standard" and "Difficult" is ridiculously high. Great party game, but you should go somewhere else for a single player DDR experience.

Turtle T. gave it a10:
LOVE IT! It gives me something to do other than sit and read/play my ds/ go to water polo practice, lol. I think we need more active games like this for the wii!

H L gave it a9:
lots of fun. the wii-mote and nunchuck add an interesting dimension to the game, although it is mostly unnecessary. DDR continues to be a fun game to play however, no matter what platform

Lessa B. gave it a1:
Absolutely horrendous song list. They've replaced catchy techno with distasteful remixes of songs from the 80's and 90's I'd rather forget. Must have been picked out by a lonely man whose dog just died. I love DDR and have bought every incarnation for the PS2. I couldn't wait to get my hands on it for the Wii. I'm sorely disapointed. I'll probably switch to stepmania permanently after this.
