In the grand racing tradition of Excitebike, get ready for a big-air experience like no other as players rocket their trucks across dynamically changing terrain. Remember tilting your arms while playing Excitebike to try to make your character land a huge jump? Well, that experience is finally a reality with Excite Truck, a wild, off-road race only possible on Nintendos Wii console. Players hold the Wii Remote like an NES controller to control the truck. The 2 button is the accelerator, the 1 button is the brake, the + Control Pad is the turbo … but that's just the beginning. Tilt the Wii Remote right and left like a steering wheel to steer. Once the truck goes airborne, tilt the Wii Remote every which way to line up perfect landings for turbo boosts. Pick up items on the courses to make the terrain deform in real time, turning innocent bumps into massive launch pads that affect not only the player's route, but that of his or her rivals. Players jump and bump their way to the highest score and highest finish. [Nintendo]

A fast, fluid, and gorgeous game, with a remarkable control scheme, a gratifying sense of progression, and its own unique sensibility. With a launch title like this, the Wii comes out of the gate swinging, demanding to be taken seriously.

My balance issues aside, Excite Truck delivers a fresh racing experience that emphasizes strategy over speed. [Jan. 2007, p.110]

Excite Truck is a very fun, fast, and – dare I say it – exciting return to grass roots arcade style racing. There no tuning to worry about, no license tests, and no underground street cred here. All of those things can be found elsewhere. Excite Truck is just about racing, and it excels in this regard.

Worth Playing
Excite Truck may underwhelm with its audio/visual presentation, but it has gameplay in droves. The high-speed acrobatics that would have had you pumping quarters into an arcade machine five years ago have been fine-tuned to create a console game that will keep you coming back for more.

Possibly one of the most underappreciated titles for the Wii, Excite Truck reminds us of why we started playing games in the first place - pure, unadulterated fun. If we get treated to an Excite Truck 2 we will be very, very happy.

What works about Excite Truck? Simply put, its use of the Wii Remote provides a more tactile feel to an otherwise straightforward destruction derby racer. Without the Wii's controller, Excite Truck would barely be worth a glance.

Excite Truck is as boisterous and cantankerous as your mother-in-law was when you forgot to call on her birthday. It's engines roar. It's music snarls. There's nothing sedate or stately about it. And, that's why it's simple but thrilling mindless fun.

Excite Truck offers plenty to see and do and is just flat out fun at times. The lack of a solid multi-player component is the game’s worst enemy, but if Nintendo manages to fix that this could easily become a staple franchise for the company.

Jon A. gave it a10:
This game is absolutely awesome and justifies the sole presence of the console in your living room.

Benihana B. gave it a7:
Not a bad driver game. Great use of the controller...My wife and I have a lot of laughs watching everybody lean left/right when they are steering, or better yet, what happens when you get excited and pull up....overall we like it.

Li R. gave it an8:
Unlike other's ratings here, I actually thought the game was boring at the start (though an interesting novelty as my dad actually managed to play better than me when first playing). The game does pick up as you gain mastery of it learning to do stunts (spinning is quite frustrating at times though). You become hooked trying to top the scores as it's more about who gets the most points than who lands in first (though ranking higher yields extra points). I give this game a high 8, being hindered only by it's lacking multiplayer offerings (there's just a simple 2 player race with no computer opponents and the screen should be split horizontally or offer the choice but it's nowhere there). Hopefully they'll learn form this past experience and build a sequel, with continued MP3 support, more multiplayer (and hopefully online) options and greater number of tracks and trucks. Very fun game, you MUST PLAY IT at least once even as a rental.

bhd sde gave it a10:
The controls of this game are exellent and very easily got used to. Definitly the best racing game on the wii. The main reason I have given it a 10 is because it is SO FUN. When I first got it I couldn't stop playing on it. The only downfall of this game is the graphics which are average and the layout of 2 player. Otherwis this game is EXELLENT. A game you must have for your wii.

Alex S. gave it an8:
I'm not a big fan of racing games, but this game was a completely different experience. The only place for imporovement is that the stages are all about the same thing.

Simon G. gave it an8:
This game is good. It’s exactly what I'm asking for in an arcade racing game. It's fast, it's loud and it's over the top. The controls work just fine; my mother kicked my gamer friends' butt at her first race and I take that as a sign. The speed feeling ala Burnout works great. The selection of Trucks and game modes is good enough for me. The morphing track feature is fun, the star systems is fun too. Only 3 things prevent this game to get a 9 in my opinion. 1 - No multiplayer online (hopefully NitroBike will nail the same gameplay quality). 2 - The 80's guitar riff soundtrack is too cheesy for my own tastes (thanks to the SD Card MP3 reading this could be solved). 3 - Another environment or 2 wouldn't have hurt the game. All in all, this is a good game, at least a good rental if you don't feel like it's deep enough.

DK gave it a1:
This game is boring. You MIGHT enjoy it for the first 2 minutes but then you'll just be bored. Lacks a good lasting single player and a has horrible multiplayer. You might want to rent it, but dont pay $50 for it.
