Summary
EA has created a unique character of the celebrated Brazilian International soccer star that is playable in FIFA Soccer 08 on Wii. The Wii-exclusive Ronaldinho hosts a game mode designed and created exclusively for Wii called Footii Party with Ronaldinho. With this mode, EA introduces unique party games - including Table Soccer and Shoot Off – where you can play as your self-created Mii character to unlock Ronaldinho and take on the champ. Each Footii Party game is created as a multiplayer, social experience designed to engage and entertain fans of all ages. The game's FreeMotion controls help level the playing field for all players and turns FIFA Soccer 08 on Wii into a physical, social activity. It also provides gamers with an authentic soccer experience with more control. It's easy to pick-up and play and with the in-game Soccer Academy you can learn basic and advanced controls in more than 30 interactive tutorials. Each lesson teaches you how to master the FreeMotion controls and perform all the necessary movements to dominate on the pitch. [Electronic Arts]

Official Nintendo Magazine UK
If you're after a 'serious' football game on the Wii you could do a heck of a lot worse than FIFA 08. If you had concerns about the controls, don't worry - it works. [Dec 2007, p.82]
Armchair Empire
The on-field play is actually pretty good, forgiving, of course, the standard stumbling points for sports games, like repetitive commentary.

Overall this is a great little package, even though it is one that feels like it won't be truly perfected until next year.

FIFA Soccer 08 on the Wii is not for everyone. In fact, there are a lot of people who will find this title quite dull.

The game modes aren’t as fleshed out as the other versions of the game.

EA's football series makes a moderately successful debut on the Wii, with family-friendly control and some neat minigames.

The control system is the biggest drawback and may be unfixable, due to the very nature of the nunchuk and the remote. However, families that just want to introduce their kids to the world of simulated football may find much to like, with the easy family play option.

A case of unnecessary-motion-controls spoiling a perfectly average football sim. [Dec 2007, p.56]

Patience and perseverance are required. [Dec 2007, p.]
NintendoWorldReport
Wii Sports demonstrated just how much depth can be wrung out of the simplest of mechanics like swinging the Remote. FIFA 08’s approach is almost the opposite, offering a huge variety of gestures that only superficially interact with the game. FIFA is a solid game, but this Wii port makes it harder than it should be to enjoy the strengths of the core design.

Overall though, FIFA 08 feels like a game that tries to please several people, and instead, pleases a very small minority.

FIFA 08 has laid the groundwork - online and off - for what could be a fantastic franchise on Wii, but until EA figures out how to reconcile FIFA's requisite button combinations with the button-starved Wii controllers, the advanced techniques are useless and on-field options have been cut in half.

FIFA 08 on Wii is a resounding miss. With the controls lacking, multi-platform gamers have little reason to purchase this version, and Wii-only owners will have to wait for something better.

Andrew E. gave it a6:
A good game let down purely for the fact that you cant create a league or cup with international teams this ea is an outrage shame shame.
M. G. gave it a4:
Non responsive controls. I am very dissapointed. I wish I could return it.
Tony T. gave it an8:
At first this game may feel weak and lifeless. Yes it is a tired port with no manager mode and yes the controlls can feel hard at times. But give this game a few days/weeks and it kicks in. Everything falls nicely into place, with wii extras and a very good online mode.
Mark L. gave it a5:
Clunky, touchy, unresponsive controls verge on being broken. Maybe I just don't have the patience for the steep learning curve. Great dept with all the players and teams. Online is a good idea but there is a lag that makes it unplayable.
Frank S. gave it a0:
Impossible controls, not compatible with wii classic controller, crap graphics.
Wii T, gave it a3:
The worst FIFA version for years. Incredibly hard to learn the controls. No-one wants to master a game in 5 minutes but this is just frustrating. A shame there is no option to use the classic controller. Does not bother me that there is no proper season mode because i wont be playing it again.
Neil C. gave it a4:
Absolutely dreadful game. Non responsive control of your players result in this being a frustrating game rather than an enjoyable one. If you want to spend hours and hours waving your controller like a madman then maybe you will enjoy a modicum of success, otherwise, leave this well alone.
