Summary
Fishing gets closer to home in Fishing Master, a title that takes arcade style fishing and updates it for a whole new generation. Utilizing both the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, players bait, cast, hook, & battle a variety of different fish, all from the comfort of their living rooms. Players assume the role of an up-and-coming fisherman tasked by his grandfather to compete in increasingly difficult fishing tournaments to attain the coveted Fishing Master title. Deep in accessible and varied gameplay, Fishing Master sports a single-player mode and a four-player head-to-head multiplayer mode aiming to have players reeling in the fun for days. [Hudson]

There aren’t any extra bells or whistles, but true fishing fans don’t need fancy. We are enjoying it, and the price is right at $30. I can truthfully say that we’ve had more fun with this game than with some more detailed and more expensive games.

Fishing Master neatly captures the drama and thrill of landing a fish, but the fun only holds up for short sessions.

Fishing Master is more akin to Pokemon than it is to a simulation of fishing, and will probably appeal the most to the "gotta catch them all" crowd.

As a first game this was actually pretty impressive, and although the mechanics could be a bit frustrating at times it was still worth it to put the work in and enjoy fishing.

We don't mind cute and simple - but this is often just plain dull. [May 2008, p.82]
Games Radar (in-house)
Before this could get too gamey sitting on store shelves, the publisher wisely dropped the price to $20, which is where it should have started.

Fishing Master is a game with quite a few negative points. Mainly the fishing is just horrible. Fishing with the Wii-Remote and the Nun-chuck is simply boring. Once you how to do it, it's all basically the same. The only advantage to the game is that you're able to buy new fishing rods and lures and join tournaments. But it doesn't compensate for the fishing system.

This game is worth ten bucks at the most. If you pay any more than that, you're doing a disservice to developers striving to provide above-average experiences to gamers.

Jeb R. gave it a7:
Fun game, a little cheesy but 2 player makes the game. I would not play the single player game as it is extremely lame. But if you see it as a light hearted game then you'll have fun.
Nick V. gave it a9:
If you enjoy fishing (fresh water or Salt) you need to check into this game. Easy simple controls lead to an addicting enjoyable gameplay. However, Master still remains challenging enough for all ages. Lays excellent foundation for other fishing games in the future.
Tako C. gave it a9:
Simple game once you get the basic mechanics of the fishing down. Very addictive in a pokemon gotta get them all type of way as you try to get all the fishes you can.
Matt gave it a9:
Is fun simple and addicting... The fish are pretty and challenging depending on the location!!
Steven gave it an8:
Very simple and enjoyable fun. A bit addictive, too!
Julio S. gave it an8:
This is a game that isn't supposed to be a simulation. Rapala is there for that. This game is a fun, family oriented approach to catching fish and is challenging enough to engage older kids for a while but easy and interesting enough to keep younger ones entertained without their losing interest in the complexity of a simulation. It's a family game designed for an occasional hour or two of fishing fun for the family.
