Summary
The Wii's unique controllers enable G1 Jockey Wii to recreate the entire horse racing experience much more realistically and intuitively than ever before. With the Wii remote used as the whip and the nunchuck used to steer and drive the horse, this title will give gamers the opportunity to feel like a true champion jockey. As well as giving gamers the opportunity to whip themselves into shape while striving to be the king of the final furlong, G1 Jockey Wii also contains a deep career mode where players get the chance to work their way from rookie status to horse racing legend. This game also gives you the opportunity to breed your own horses and develop them into a stable of true thoroughbred winners. G1 Jockey Wii is all about making the most of your initial opportunities and building up your renown within the racing world. The more you and your horses impress the more chances to make it into the big time will be presented to you. [Koei]

Once our initial disappointment over the whips and riding confusion passed, we found ourselves immersed in an unlikely office hit.

A smartly-designed and engrossing sports management title - and chaep(ish) too. [Aug 2007, p.56]
Eurogamer
Koei demonstrate here that it knows how to make an accurate horse racing sim. But, far more importantly, they excel at structuring an enjoyable and compelling videogame, one that will entrance those with eyes to see, and curtains to conceal.

G1 Jockey offers some great times. Whilst it won't appeal to many, those that think twice about picking it up shouldn't be dissapointed. That is, if they can overcome the difficult to access aspects of the game and can enjoy the off the track management offerings.

Overall G1 Jockey remains faithful to its roots, those hoping for a fun take on horse riding in the same vein as Wii Play will be disappointed.

G1 Jockey is not ‘pick up and play’, it demands a lot of practice and the subject matter will probably not get the average Nintendo fans heart pumping in excitement.

G1 Jockey will probably confuse most people who come across it; however it has the potential to attract an audience as wide as RPG addicts to motor racing fanatics, while flying over their heads at the same time.

One thing it's can't be accused of lacking is depth - there is an epic, dialogue-heavy soap-style plot and options cover every element (minus the betting) of your jockeying career. [Aug 2007, p.85]
Official Nintendo Magazine UK
It's so very boring. But then, it's not the most riveting of genres, is it? [Aug 2007, p.87]
AceGamez
G1 Jockey is a great game if you've ever wanted to be a jockey. Once you've got your head around the dials and what makes your horse perform the best, you'll really enjoy the gameplay, especially if you've been brought up on other simulators and love tinkering with every last detail - and if not you can randomise your choices.

The cynical among us could easily bash this for being a blatant cash-in port of an existing game. However, spend a bit of time with it and there is plenty to entertain for a good few hours. Not a glowing endorsement, and probably not a game to buy at full price, but certainly one worth looking out for in a few months when it starts hitting the £20 mark.

For those that are prepared to put the time in, train their own stable of thoroughbreds and enjoy a more serene experience, G1 Jockey might be worth a purchase, but it still falls firmly into the ‘try before you buy’ stable.
