Summary
A stampede of notorious criminals have busted out of Arkham Asylum, where Gotham City houses only the shadiest of characters. It's up to the famed Caped Crusader to sweep Gotham clean of criminal activity using everything at his disposal, including crime-fighting vehicles as well as several baddie-bashing bat gadgets. A few resurfacing niggles don't spoil the most freeform and fun Lego game to date. [Dec 2008, p.75]
Gameplanet
A thoroughly entertaining game that has a wide appeal for young and old. The low level of violence and simplicity of challenge makes it easy to play. A good solid family game that we highly recommend.

Batman hasn't changed his act in 70 years, so don't be surprised to find a game that's stuck in its ways. But what ludicrously fun ways they are. [Nov 2008, p.44]
Game Revolution
With a unique plot, great characters, and gameplay that’s fun for both kids and adults, Lego Batman continues the sheer fun of the series and is a great game on all available platforms.

It’s the weakest of the three LEGO games. Then again, it’s still way better than any other movie tie-in this year.

The storyline follows the exploits of the pantheon of Batman villains after their escape from Arkham Asylum and the subsequent mayhem that ensues, but you don't need to be familiar with any of that to sit down and play along with your kids.

You've really got to wonder how much longer the fun will last. [Dec 2008, p.101]
IGN
LEGO Batman is good fun, but it's really just the same thing we've seen before. I don't think the LEGO formula needs much of a change, but certainly the common issues with the series should no longer exist.

The charm of LEGO blocks is exploring your creativity and building new things, so Traveler’s Tales’ habit of sticking to one formula stands in stark contrast to the entire LEGO philosophy. We’ve had fun with this series, but it’s time to dump the franchise out on the floor and start piecing it back into something new.

Annoyances aside, LEGO Batman is arguably the best of the LEGO games. It’s certainly not revolutionary, but it represents a very smart, very fun evolution on a proven formula.

Although there isn’t a lot that’s new in LEGO Batman, fans will not be disappointed. The title retains the standard LEGO gameplay, has a wonderful cast of characters, and offers players tons of replay value.

Anyone searching for the ultimate co-op experience on the Wii should look no further than LEGO Batman.

Despite its many faults, LEGO Batman can be a fun experience albeit a repetitive and frustrating one. As a big fan of Batman, I heartily recommend it to any fan of the Caped Crusader. However, non-fans will want to avoid it entirely since enjoyment is derived almost entirely from its nostalgia factor.

After the releases of LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Indiana Jones, you should know what to expect from LEGO Batman: The Videogame--it's like those games, only with Batman. [Dec 2008, p.98]
Gamer 2.0
Perhaps it is time that Traveler’s Tales mellows down a bit and tries to make the next Lego game a bit more polished then this travesty.
Ultimately you cannot blame Traveller’s Tales too much for playing it safe with LEGO Batman and following their successful blueprint for retail success once again.

Too brainless for adults, and increasingly too frustrating and needlessly obtuse for children, Lego Batman makes the simplest mistake any franchise title can: it serves the licence, and nobody else. [Dec 2008, p.89]

Klay gave it an8:
This game is pretty fun, don't expect anything too different than the other Lego games, but, that's not necessarily a bad thing. Batman fans, and Lego fans, will have a fun time playing this. Luckily I'm both. Also, don't look at Gamer 2.0's review, they spelt the word 'than' wrong. Shows how trustworthy they are.
S B. gave it a10:
My 9 year old and 4 year old boys love this game!! They are already familiar with the features from previous Lego video games and love seeing all the Batman characters from movies they've watched for years!
Florian Lutz gave it an8:
Who likes the other Lego games will like this too. It`s the same. Still simple and fun.
