Summary
With the exclusive video game license of the NFL and its players, and currently in its 17th installment, Madden NFL 07 puts you in control the running game like never before. For the first time ever, step up as the lead blocker to create a hole, and then take control of the tailback and smash through, overpower, or slash away from would-be tacklers as you fight for every yard. Innovative rushing controls give you a game-breaking ground attack featuring all-new jukes, cutbacks, and the distinct running styles of your favorite backs. Conceived as an entirely original football experience on the Wii, the game puts players on the field like never before. Using the console’s unique remote to pass, kick, snap, throw, catch and run, players interact with the game in an entirely new way. Boasting massive gameplay innovations inspired by the motion sensor of the remote, Madden NFL 07 maximizes the power and unique design of the game system. [Electronic Arts]

On its own merits, Madden 07 for the Wii is as exciting a development in sports games as I've seen in a long time, and should be experienced by anyone with even a passing interest in a good game of football.

On the Wii it is an entirely different beast. The game works extremely well with the Wii Remote and it’s great that EA took the time to deliver a compelling product instead of taking the Gamecube version and just adding a minigame or too.

These simple mechanics greatly enhance an already phenomenal product.. Furthermore, the inclusion of three very addictive mini games -- 2 on 2, Kicking Combine, and Y.A.C. Attack -- provides gamers with experiences they won't find anyplace else.

It's not just intuitive to wave your hands around to play football, but it's also fun. Throwing the ball and seeing the motion echoed on-screen can give a huge sense of empowerment.

In many ways, it treads the same ground as previous titles in the series, but the new control method is like a little mini-revolution for sports games.
While some of the new control methods weren’t implemented as well as they possibly could have been, they don’t detract too much from the overall experience.

The low-rent visuals are a disappointment, even for the Wii, but it’s a clear demonstration of how well the Wii controls can work in the right hands. Best of all, it comes from a place that no one ever expected.

After playing the game on the Nintendo Wii it is hard to go back to the other versions as the game now draws you in it more and makes you feel that you are more a part of the game.

With the graphics aside, this has to be the best version of Madden this year due to the control factor.

Scoring a field goal by flicking the Wii Remote feels genuinely satisfying. [Christmas 2006, p.74]
Cheat Code Central
Although it shows that it is a launch title with its graphics (faces), the controls and gameplay are excellent. This is the most excited I have been about a Madden game since "Madden 2001" for the PS2.

For those who don’t normally play Madden or who are looking for a good party version of Madden, I can not recommend a better version then the Wii. Of all the Madden games released since the days of the Genesis, Madden 07 for the Wii is the first that I was honestly excited to play.

It's a ton of fun, especially if a friend gets involved. The motion controls really adds to the competitive experience of the game and should lead to some intense living room battles. But the game itself has a distinctive retro feel, with its lackluster graphics.
Sure, it's not perfect and it's nowhere near as gorgeous as the competition's console games, but the sheer playability, usability and unrivaled feel of the game experience is something that's worth way more credit than this game has received.

Madden 07 leaves definite room for improvement, but it's a tremendous leap in the right direction. If Madden 07 is any indication expect EA and Nintendo to become very, very good friends this generation.

Some casual gamers may balk at Madden NFL 07's overall complexity, but it won't make any enemies of Madden fans, and the minigames will be the life of the football party. [Jan. 2007, p.102]
GameSpot
Madden NFL 07 for the Wii isn't just a quick-and-dirty port. It's an excellent use of the Wii's motion-sensing capabilities that revitalizes Madden in a number of ways.

If you own a Wii and you are a sports fan, this is one game that utilizes both controllers and shows off why the Wii is so innovative.

Gameplay is definitely the most fun and/or frustrating I’ve had with Madden in sometime. When everything works, it is an awesome experience. On the other hand, when you are trying to think what motion you have to do with the Wii mote to hurdle, and you do the wrong move, it can be frustrating.

I actually found myself enjoying it a lot more than other Madden games in the past.

I might not be alone in saying that Madden NFL 07 for Wii is the best version of all the next-generation platform versions.

Fans will find a massive playing experience with solid controls. [January 2007, p.65]
Yahoo! Games
The big question was how well the new controls would work, and though you'll need extra practice to kick well, the game passes the test, making for a solid bridge between two generations of game systems.

And if EA manages to add more defensive options and sturdier motion tracking, Wii could become the best place to play Madden in years.

This is a shining example of what can be achieved on Wii when thought and developmental talent combine. While the 360 version will be better for the purists, the sheer exuberance of playing the game on Wii is unmatched. [Feb 2007, p.114]
VideoGamer
Having been playing the series since its early heydays in the 90s, I can honestly say I haven't had this much fun with a football game in decades.

Madden 07 for the Wii may be just innovative enough to require a second purchase of the game.
I definitely had some fun with this game, but when I was having trouble calling pre-snap commands I couldn’t shake the feeling that for all this title’s individuality, I’d still rather play regular Madden.

This game is a classic example of a developer being forced to innovate and embrace the Wii remote. Madden NFL 07 on the Wii is clearly one of the best uses of the Wii remote yet.

It's good stuff, but rather than being intuitive it takes a lot of getting used to. Well worth a punt, though. [Feb 2007, p.84]
NintendoWorldReport
The overall complexity of the game will immediately turn off the more casual players who were attracted by the control scheme. The hardcore Madden players will most likely prefer one of the more traditional console versions because of precision issues with the gestures.

The pick-up-and-play impressions started out positive, but as I spent more time with it, the less I enjoyed the novelty and just wished I could play good football... It's all in the game on the field, and with a defense that's allowing old-school, Hail Mary money plays pretty much at will, this doesn't cut it.

The developers should have spent more time fine-tuning the controls. [Jan. 2007, p.60]

Nathan H. gave it a4:
The interactive gaming of the wii has made alot of the games that i have played alot better. But not this one. The wii controls work well and all, but it wasnt nearly as fun as madden 06. I would suggest madden 08 over this game any day.
Jeff Z. gave it an8:
Makes the current football games much easier to play, and I like that. I think I'm starting to tire on the Madden game in general though.
Elie N. gave it a7:
Pretty cool game but I found that the controls are not as good as everybody say. If you are a Madden fan, buy it but otherwise try it before you do so.
Brandon B. gave it a6:
I am one of those big madden guys who gets the game every year and is quick to master the All-Madden levels. I felt that this game was okay and a step in the right direction. Can't wait to see what they come out with next. They definitely need to work on the throwing a bit and the pass defense needs a lot of work. On PS2 I would play safety and get user picks left and right, in this one don't shake the wemote perfect and your burned for a TD.
Eli L. gave it an8:
Madden 07 is a pretty good game, it's hard at first then it's easier. You get sucked in to madden 07 in the first quarter. I think you'll like it.
Neil T. gave it a10:
I used to enjoy playing Madden on the PS2, but it was difficult to get the hang of it (I only played at a buddy's house, so I never got to spend a few hours just learning it). It literally took the first offensive & defensive series on the Wii before I felt like a pro - what used to take a five-button combo you can accomplish with the Wii controller very easily. It might frustrate me if I spent the past 10 years learning the ins and outs of Madden, but as a casual player this new system rocks. Some of the moves definately take practice (it's far easier to Power Hit then manually intercept for example), but that's going to happen with any game. It's easy enough to pick up & play, and plenty room to get good. I'd recommend this game to anyone looking for a football game on the Wii.
John A. gave it a9:
This is the best Madden game I have ever played. Makes good use of the Wii-mote. Spent hours just messing around on it. Awesome multiplayer, loads of extra, and just plain fun.
