MadWorld is a game with highly stylized black and white graphics, over-the-top violence and visceral action which incorporating a layer of unexpected, irreverent comedy that makes the experience unlike any other. In MadWorld, Varrigan City is under siege by a terrorist group simply known as "The Organizers." They have isolated its citizens from the rest of the world, and have turned the city into a bizarre and twisted game show environment called "Death Watch." In this game of survival, all the citizens have become reluctant contestants and they are pitted against unknown enemies in the ultimate battle of life or death, where only the strongest will prevail. As Jack, players make their way through the various levels and environments in Varrigan City, crafting clever traps and using various weapons – chainsaws, street signs, and daggers, to name a few – to destroy enemies who threaten their lives. The Wii Remote and Nunchuk are used in a variety of motions that mimic the action on screen. Lively sports commentators call out moves as players execute them, and darkly comical finishing moves add a level of irreverence that contributes to the game's unique tone. Along with the exaggerated characters, upbeat pace and bloody visuals that define "Death Watch," a variety of crazed mini-games called "Blood Bath Challenges" are scattered among the levels, giving players a chance to upgrade weapons and increase overall scores. MadWorld is way too violent, has way too much cursing, and the gore factor is off the chart, and boy am I glad it is. MadWorld is an amazing game that you have to experience yourself. With a solid story and simplistic and easy to learn controls, the game offers more than just shock value. This is one of the best games I have played or seen for the Wii.

This is exactly the game the mature, hardcore Wii crowd has been craving, and it's just too bad that Nintendo is too busy making the next Wii Play, Wii Fit or Wii Music to put more resources into projects like this.

Violence with sense in a brilliant video game in all of its facets that manage to demonstrate that adult and interesting titles for Wii are possible. Dark, brutal and hilarious in just the right way, MadWorld is a title that has rocketed to the top of every staff member's must buy list. With an old style gameplay, unique visuals and many other peculiarities, MadWorld is indeed the mature Wii game that many were waiting for. Potential buyers should be warned though, this is not just a black-and-white action game, for its mechanics could make it frustrating for those not used to an old style scoring system. Add this to a desolating length, and what you get is a controversial product, split between its visionary genius and very basic gameplay issues. Some will love it, others will hate it; it will be remembered, but it’s not the absolute masterpiece many were waiting for.

Brutality, tons of blood and the most violent show ever seen to come exclusively to Wii. Former Clover members prove their talent with this beat'em up portrayed with this comic-book look drawn with black, white and red colors. The camera and targeting mechanics are bad, almost game-ruining awful. What really kills this game’s appeal is its brevity; since you can beat this in only a few hours, the high price tag might not be justified. Cristiana Y gave it a7:
This game could have been a perfect beat-em-up game, it has gratuitous violence, great style, and great audio. However what kills this game is the inherent 'wii-ness' of the title. The camera sucks, and since you can't control it directly you end up struggling to get it to point where you want it. Then the motion controls, they really don't add much to the game, but, I generally hate motion controls because they never just feel right, and just make it more annoying to play the game. If somehow they decided to release a patch so you can play the entire game with the classic controller, with standard controls, this game would easily be a ten.

Tim Something. gave it a10:
Do you want brutal yet hilariously over-the-top violence? Check. Do you want the best voice-over-commentary ever? Check. Do You want to laugh whilst blowing apart thugs in a creative and overall hilarious fashion? Check. MadWorld is a styalized, hilariously violent Beat-em-up with its own sadistic style of humor...So what are you waiting for? Buy it already!

will w gave it a10:
The best excuse for a Wii since Twilight Princess, this game is 6 hours of pure, ultra violent bliss. Lock up your children and don't talk to senators, because this game is definitely not for kids. I mean, it's a violent game show with hilarious and profane commentary by 2 well known comedians. Yeah, the Wii is now a truly family-friendly system because of this game, because now the hardcore gamer in the family won't have to incessantly play Brawl or Mario Galaxy, or another great, but squeaky clean, game. In my opinion, MadWorld is definitely the Wii's best game, not just of 2009, but ever. The only flaws are a mildly annoying camera and some repetitive but funny banter by the commentators. But those are only minor flaws in this great game. I swear, this is like Monty Python's classic skit Sam Peckinpah's Salad Days meets Sin City meets a Jhonen Vasquez comic, with some Pulp Fiction thrown in for good measure. On acid. That alone is enough reason to play this excellent, excellent game.

Fozzy U gave it a10:
Simply put, this game will sell more Wii's. It's given me a reason to play my Wii again. It's Wii's answer to God of War (but more stylized and a more techno-punk theme than ancient greek). The attitude for this game is all there.

Barnee B gave it a9:
It has it's flaws, but overally it's a very unique game, with a great story, funny characters, good graphics and music, and the action is also flatout awesome. Of course if you hate violence and faul language, this is not your game. The game doesnt take itsefl too serously, so you should not either. It's bit short, but at least it's not too repetitive and it doesnt get old during the 6 hours it takes to beat the game.

t b gave it a5:
The first hour of this game pretty much blew my mind. the action is awesome and the sheer amount of ways to kill is amazing. but the horrendous controls, mostly the camera but also and the delay of the chainsaw ruined it. other annoyances also hurt. the music is annoying, the horror levels sucked, I couldn't figure out how to beat the witch, and in the middle of the action it often cuts away

Matt P. gave it a10:
This game is amazing. I would go so far as to say it is the best game on the Wii, though I haven't played many. The game is only five hours long, but replay value is infinite, especially if you happen to be bored with nothing else to do. The story is confusing, and starts off bad, but it slowly starts to make sense. The ending is pretty good, though it doesn't answer every question, and raises at least one new question. Some people may not like the black-and-white, but it works fine and the graphics as a whole are amazing for a Wii title.
