Summary
With over ten different exciting game modes including the traditional Practice, Exhibition, League and Home Run Challenge modes, MLB Power Pros 2008 brings fans closer to the action than ever before. Gamers also get the opportunity to act as general manager and control the destiny of their own franchise in Season mode, or engage in entertaining role-playing story modes such as Success and MLB Life modes. As general manager, gamers can trade, sign free agents, coordinate practice schedules, purchase new equipment, call up and send down players from the Minor Leagues, along with other management options to bring in fans, win playoff games and eventually, earn the title of World Series champion. In Success mode, fans can participate in a story-based career of rising players in the Double-A Minor League system trying to improve their baseball skills and make an impression on baseball scouts while also having to balance various situations in their personal lives. Through a variety of amusing training and game challenges, players who complete Success mode can take their created player files into MLB Life as well, or also play as either an existing Major League Baseball player in Dream Mode, or start as a rookie in Major League Career mode. As a new feature in MLB Power Pros 2008, MLB Life is another story-based mode that allows fans the possibility to simulate the exciting life and experience of being a Major League Baseball player over the course of a 20-year career. While continuing to play in games through the regular baseball season, players also participate in a number of realistic situations such as signing contracts, purchasing houses and cars, making charitable donations, building up relationships with friends and teammates, picking up hobbies and much more. Cheat Code Central
A great sports title and really succeeds because it provides a deep and rewarding experience for serious sports gamers, but it also provides a fun and casual experience for those who just have basic knowledge of the sport and want to have some fun playing baseball.

A sterling example of how sports games can be deep without being overly complicated and how realism doesn't necessarily trump goofiness, as long as what you're making is fun.

A fantastic choice for casual and hardcore baseball fans of all ages. It makes a great companion to the realism heavy baseball games on the market, and Success and MLB Life mode would both be worth the price of admission on their own.

The MLB Mode, however, is everything a baseball fanatical could dream of, transforming you into living the life of a major leaguer (or minor leaguer). As such, MLB Power Pros 2008 knocks another one out of the park.

Not much has changed since last year, but what HAS was done so for the better.

The game is a simulation/RPG monster that will fulfill any baseball fanatic's dream of playing in the minor leagues, big leagues, or just managing a team.

While it might look childish and basic, and the controls need some tweaking, there is more content and data tracking in this game than in any game you are ever likely to play.

For hardcore baseball simulation fans, I have no problem recommending MLB Power Pros 2008 – but for families looking for an extension of Nintendo’s incredible Wii Sports, I would recommend looking towards titles like Little League World Series 2008 or Mario Super Sluggers that fully embrace the Wii’s model and functionality.

It's simple, yet deep; goofy, yet realistic. By straddling these contradictions, MLB Power Pros 2008 manages to appeal to casual and hardcore players alike. It doesn't step far from its predecessor's shadow, but that doesn't prevent it from shining.

A solid baseball game for the Wii that is lacking in what the Wii does best, Motion controls.
Opportunities to get RBIs were very few, 80% of the time when the character was batting it was with the bases empty.
It's getting a bit of a late start considering we're already more than halfway through the 2008 season, but MLB Power Pros is the best baseball game you'll find on the Wii. [Sept 2008, p.88]
Console Gameworld
Try the Mario baseball game for cute, or a more realistic MLB title for robust realism.
The baseball portions are fun, but the game ironically doesn't focus much on hardball at all, and the other modes are tedious and confounding.
Read Full Review >Games Radar (in-house)
While Power Pros 2008 offers an undeniably massive amount of modes and options, we could’ve easily waited until next spring for a truer, fuller follow-up. Veterans of last season’s title have pretty much played this game already, but it is a nice place to start if you’re new to the series.

JP H gave it an8:
As with many Wii games, the graphics are lacking in this game. The play is fairly intuitive and engaging, only dragging when you're up (or down) by a bunch. A fun play but not one that you'll get lost in (like similar EA titles available on PS).
Nick O. gave it a10:
What a cool game.
Amanda K. gave it a10:
This game is so much better then the previous version. The MLB Life addition, is by far, the most addicting portion of this game. I don't play sports games much, as it has always been too complicated with controls, however, this one is enjoyable and easy to play. It is also cute, but not overly cute that will make you sick.
Jackie M. gave it a9:
This game is awesome if you can get over the people with no legs, no mouth, no nose, and no fingers.
[Anonymous] gave it an8:
Similar to last year's game with a few minor improvements. My only gripe is that it doesn't have an online mode. If it did, I would give it at least a 9.
