Summary
Exclusive to the Wii: Players can take their fighting action to a whole new level with all special moves and fatalities executed via the Wii-mote. In addition, not only can gamers enjoy all aspects of Armageddon with the Wii-mote, but the GameCube and Classic Controller as well. Appearing for the first time on consoles, Armageddon features an enhanced Endurance Mode, allowing gamers to test their true fighting stamina. Select from more than 60 characters from the Entire Mortal Kombat Fighting Universe: From Liu Kang to Shang Tsung to Shao Kahn, Mortal Kombat: Armageddon features more playable fighters than any other Mortal Kombat game to date. For the first time in a Mortal Kombat game players can use a Kreate-A-Fighter feature to create and define their fighter's look, abilities and personality with a deep level of customization and take that unique fighter online. Fans now have the ability to create their own custom fatalities by stringing together a series of attacks via a series of button combos; those that prove worthy can take their very own death moves online to showcase to the world. Get two people together and it's damn good fun! [June 2007, p.90]
ZTGameDomain
Mortal Kombat Armageddon is the most feature-rich version of the series to date, not to mention the best fighting game currently available on Nintendo’s newest console.

It is the most complete title of the Mortal Kombat series, with every character (including one who is Wii-exclusive) and worth buying if you are a fan just for this.

Fans should not be disappointed. [July 2007, p.93]

The changes are as skull-shattering as we had hoped -- rejuvenating a franchise in dire need of a makeover.

Even though it lacks an abundance of new content, its Wii-sensitive control set-up and additional content do enough to keep the blood pumping -- fighting fans will find bloody satisfaction with Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.

The Wii handles violent OTT theatrics like no other console, but a fresh game would have been much appreciated. [July 2007, p.48]
IGN
The new gesture based controls seem like a bad idea, and yet in practice they feel responsive and satisfying to perform... most of the time. Very occasionally, your movements won't be recognized, which is troubling.

With the remote in hand Armageddon plays best on Wii, but we'd like a fresh installment. [Aug 2007, p.68]
GamingTrend
If you are looking for a fighting game that uses the Wiimote, there aren’t many options available on the shelves. Armageddon for the Wii fills that void nicely.

Armageddon is just another fighter these days. It may have been one of the most popular fighting games of the mid-90’s but that time has long passed.

We’re definitely disappointed in the implementation of the Wii controls in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. It could be so much more than it is, and with downgraded graphics and no online option, this is a lazy port. At the same time, there are more fighters, stages, and modes here than you’ll likely ever get around to messing with.

There’s a lot of game here for the money, and as long as you haven’t already played it, it’s definitely worth picking up.

While the Wii-mote controls are pretty gimmicky and not very practical, Mortal Kombat: Armageddon offers a robust amount of features and game modes, plus plenty of fighters and unlockables to keep you busy.

A good entry point to the series, but if you've played any recent Mortal Kombat game, you'll notice that most of this stuff has been recycled.

All of the basic attacks have been moved to the Wii remote's d-pad, which is awkward enough by itself. The bigger change is that the special moves are now associated with controller movements. [June 2007, p.113]

A little better than your average port. The Wii controls work pretty well and the game has always been a solid gaming experience. With the inclusion of the Wii-only Khameleon and the tons of replayability the game offers, fans of the series have a lot to be thankful for, but only if they haven't already played the PS2 or Xbox versions to death.

Mortal Kombat Armageddon hasn't changed much in six months. There are a few new bonuses and executing moves is done different but the game is still very enjoyable.

This one doesn’t redefine the fighter genre, but it’s still a fun Wii fighter that interested players can enjoy if they’re willing to put up with some small problems here and there.

The new motion-controls - a feature we cringed at when first announced - unexpectedly make the game that much more enjoyable.
To me Armageddon still is an enjoyable game, but is still one that does require a lot of patience to get into the controls and the game itself.
The problem with the game is that it doesn't have as much support to the one-on-one fighting that previous games in the series has had.

The millions of die-hard fans who wanted to get their Kombat on will have no doubt already picked up the superior PS2/Xbox version six months ago.

Physically throwing that spear and yanking your foe towards you is immensely satisfying – it’s given the franchise a new appeal. [July 2007, p.122]
GamePro
The Wii-specific controls are fun for while, but quickly degenerate from thrilling to gimmicky.

It just isn’t revolutionary in any way. Nothing about it grabbed me by the eyeballs and shook me around until my head caved in.

It's pretty telling that it's a simple cash-in when the game is far better using last generation's controller. [Aug 2007, p.70]
Play Magazine
As much hype as the gesture system has generated, using the Wiimote to play a fighting game designed for a standard interface just doesn't work. [June 2007, p.80]

Eduardo R. gave it a9:
The issue about MK Armageddon on the Wii is: Do the Wii controllers suit a fighting game? The answer is: Surprisingly, YES. Despite the fact that I was really concerned that it wouldn´t work at all, the wiimote+nunchuk not only allow you to perform the supermoves in a easier way, but they also make combos (performed on the + pad) quite simple. Furthermore, excluse to the Wii, you can play the aggressive SUVIVAL mode, which was a really welcome add. MK Armageddon is definitely a very nice fighter.
Heath R. gave it a7:
MKA is not only a satisfying fighter, but possibly the best example of how classic-schemed fighting games can still play perfectly well, if not easier, on Wii. Although the games exclusion of an online mode is dissappointing, the "Wii exlusive kharacter" being hardly anything to write home about, and the overall fact that MKA is about 6 months late to the party, doesn't really give veterans of the previous versions much reason to revisit the title. The reusing of character models from Deadly Alliance to the T is also an eyesoar when paired against the newer models, like Daegon. However, you'd be hard pressed to find a fighter with more selection, replay value, or customizablity on any other next-gen platform. So if you're a fan of fighters, Mortal Kombat, or simply haven't had the chance to check the game out already, theres very little reason to be dissapointed with the purchase.
James D. gave it a10:
Just goes to show: never listen to the critics. This i s a class game and has gave me and friends lots of hours of fun. We are not new to the series and we this is my favourite of them all.
Mark R. gave it a9:
It's a great fighting game, I was surprised by the lots of contents that comes with it and overall, good ol' MK!!
Jonny S. gave it a9:
Wii remote makes it amazingly easy. Arcade/versus is as fun as ever, even better actually, motor kombat is always a good time, but kombat is basically just an excuse to unlock new things.
Jeff B. gave it an8:
This game is exactly what I was expecting: the quirkiness of the Mortal Kombat series, TONS OF FUN WITH FRIENDS, not terribly technical, and absolutely TONS of kontent. One important thing to note about this game is that it solves the number one problem in the Mortal Kombat series to date, which is "dial a fatality" or "dial a special move" (absurd, arbitrary, and difficult button combinations to do special moves and fatalities). This only makes the game easier to pick up and helps increase the flow of the game.
