Okami tells the story of a mythical sun god who sets out to restore a dismal world, decimating the forces of evil who stand in the way by commanding the elements and mythical abilities the deity possesses. Mixing Japanese folklore and a stunning traditional Japanese art style, players must utilize an inventive control scheme to overcome the challenges and evil that await. By enhancing the unique gameplay, visual style and story line of Okami with the control of the Wii Remote, it is sure to be the ultimate version of the game. Originally designed for the PS2 and released in 2006, Okami now comes alive in an entirely new way on the Wii with its visually stunning art style and beautiful scenic 3D levels that have the appearance and texture of paper scrolls brushed with watercolor-like calligraphy art. Throughout the vibrant and distinctive surroundings, players must use the Wii remote to interact with a dynamic world and cast of characters. The blend of stylized graphics, movements and unique gameplay will result in a rich and dynamic experience never seen before. [Capcom]

It's as well-designed as Zelda, as involving as Final Fantasy, and as beautiful as anything you've ever seen; it belongs with the best of the Zelda series at the very apex of its genre.

What makes Okami so timeless is an art style that trancends technology. It looks as new today as it did in 2006. [Apr 2008, p.40]

While some minor control issues here blemish an otherwise flawless package, Okami remains one of the best games of recent years, if not of all time. It’s engaging, original, and a true work of art — Wii owners looking for a game worthy of their time need look no further.

The Wii controls aren’t perfect for celestial paintbrush techniques, but they certainly don’t detract from the overall experience. With widescreen support, and improved visual fidelity, you’ll find very little to complain about.

And in the End... It's the rare game that can be ported to a new system two years after its original release, nearly pixel for pixel, and yet still feel like a fresh new experience, but "Okami" is just such a game, thanks to an excellent implementation of the Wii controller on an already engaging game.

At a length of around 30 hours the game has more punch then the average adventure game of its kind, and while it feels a little long and can be frustrating at parts, I definitely place Okami near the top of the Wii releases, and possibly on the top of all adventure releases.

While a few minor things may have been lost in the port, I’d argue that ultimately this is a more important game for the Wii than it was for the PS2.

Age isn't kind to many games, but with the addition of motion controls for the celestial brush and support for widescreen and progressive scan displays, Okami has been updated enough to make it even more relevant today than it was in 2006.

A must-have title for anyone who has ever loved a Zelda game, a Clover Studio game, or any time-intensive 3D adventure game. The only people I would advise against buying Okami are those on the extreme left or extreme right of the "casual/hardcore" gamer divide.

Clover and Ready at Dawn have given the Wii a beautiful and epic journey. One of the best games on the system that any gamer with a Wii needs to own. Okami is a masterpiece that is not likely to be duplicated and deserves to be in everyone's gaming library.

Worth Playing
The final verdict is that Okami for the Wii is an excellent offering and a fine addition to your library if you don't already own the PlayStation 2 version. The small complaints are a small price to pay for such an exquisite adventure, a title that really proves that quality third-party support for Nintendo is much more than a dream at this point.

While it isn't necessary a quantum leap over the PS2 version -- and while the game has its faults -- this is still a solid title that hardcore Wii owners will want to consider adding to their library.

Ready at Dawn did a good job in creating a motion sensor game that focuses on art and the beauty of it. The story itself isn’t extremely original and that leads to the game feeling kind of bland.

This is a marvelous game in terms of artistry, sound, and yes, even gameplay, despite being hamstrung by the poorly implemented Celestial Brush controls. Despite the headaches you'll undoubtedly experience, it's still worth playing Okami on your Nintendo Wii.

Mahir C. gave it a10:
This is a brilliant game. I dare to say it's better than most Zelda titles. It's also pleasantly long and got TONS of things to do, if you feel like it. One of the best games ever!

Matthew L. gave it an8:
This was very, very good, but it isn't a "Zelda Killer" in the least. A few brush strokes feel gimmicky, and there are not very many puzzles in this game. That and the game was extremely easy. All in all, worth its $40. But at the other Zelda game for $50, you get what you pay for.

R P. gave it a10:
Love this game. Cool concept. Great with game for Wii.

Zack B gave it an8:
If ever there were a prime candidate for the argument of "games are art", then Okami would safely secure itself at the forefront of this debate. This game proves to be an exercise in adept game design - it integrates refreshing game-play mechanics with visuals so majestic, you could swear you were interacting with a Van Gogh painting sprung to life. A charming narrative helps propel the game forward. Goddess', magical astral brushes, and talking animals are the norm in this quirky tale. Something about this game's world is absolutely enrapturing. Not since watching Hayao Miyazaki's "Spirited Away" have I been so compelled to experience every beautifully crafted second the work had to offer. If you have any interest at all in adventure titles -- especially those that manage to incorporate original ideas -- then do yourself a favor, and purchase this game posthaste!

[Anonymous] gave it a10:
One of the best games out for the Wii, and possibly any console (except the PS2, where it originated). Some of the controls take a little getting used to, like the combat, but with the Wii-Mote drawing is fast and easy. This game got passed by once, let's hope it doesn't happen again.

jojothehobo h gave it a9:
Awesome, but not unbelievable. The cutscene at the beginning was ridiculously long and very boring with an extreme lack of color. Not only that, but the characters voices were like Japanese versions of banjo-kazooie speaking! Other than that, it was great with some original ideas and sweet graphics.

Paul D. gave it an8:
This game is beautiful. The graphics are vibrant and the style, mimicking Japanese watercolor, is breathtaking. A 40 plus hour adventure of Zelda-like proportions gives you a definite bang for your buck. The only gripe I have is with the controls which can be downright frustrating at times. However, for such an epic game chockful of visual artistry and funny dialouge I can overlook the brush controls. I definitely recommend it for any serious gamer who doesn't own the ps2 version.
