Summary

Pro Evolution Soccer is back for 2009! The terms "PES" and "Winning Eleven" have always been synonymous with realism and superior gameplay, but this year PES will further narrow the gap between the game, and the real thing! New stadiums, players motions and gameplay modes will bolster a game already focused on providing an exciting soccer experience. In 2009, Pro Evolution will once again push the limits of soccer gaming. If it were any more real, you'd be on the field! [Konami]

Wii Brasil

Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 is the hardest and one of the best soccer games ever, only surpassed by the excellent Winning Eleven 10. Is a must-buy for all Wii owners who like soccer and if they're not used to the new control scheme, a Classic Controller is a great option.

FC Konami deliver another excellent game of football. The additions and on-pitch improvements mean this is well worth forking out for. The lads done good.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2009's visuals may not be in the same league as the versions released on the more powerful PS3 and Xbox 360, but it's hands down the better playing game.

Multiplayer.it

Overall, PES 2009 is a better, more refined and complete experience than before. The classic controller option makes the game more accessible to the casual audience, but also shows that maybe Konami doesn't believe too much in the Wii-exclusive gameplay mechanics. Besides that, this is the best soccer you can play on Nintendo's amazingly successful console.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 isn’t just an update of the previous version: a lot of gameplay implementation from PES 2008 make this game a new and unique soccer experience. It would’ve been better to get updated graphics too, still at PS2 level, anyway the game doesn’t suffer too much for that. A must have for any Wii-soccer fan.

Cheat Code Central

PES 2009 is one of the best sports titles to release this calendar year. In fact, I would say it definitely rivals FIFA 2009 and even NHL 2009. What a surprise! Now I can't wait for the 2010 version to come out to see how this title matures on the system.

PES 09 is one of the best football games ever made. It is able to improve upon some of the most important issues of the last year iteration (shoot, defense, game modes, local multiplayer), offering a unique gameplay experience to all the Wii owners.

Pelit (Finland)

At its best the game feels more a RTS than an ordinary football game. The set piece and defense will need a lot of work because the controls are still a little too automatic. [May 2009]

Refined controls and additional modes of play make Pro Evo's second Wii outing an improvement over last year's debut.

There's still a fair bit for Konami to sort out, and if you're still happily enjoying the first PES Wii game you might wonder if you need this one at all, but if you like the sound of the things that have changed then you have your answer.

It's not better than FIFA 09 next-gen, and it'll take a bit of getting used to, but with time and effort you'll find it the most rewarding virtual game of football around.

The controls for PES Wii still aren’t intuitive to use, but with patience you may discover their brilliance. It is good that Konami decided to support the Classic Controller – it’s perfect for the impatient gamer.

To control your soccer team by giving them orders via the Wiimote can be difficult and frustrating at first, but the fact is that this is a really excellent interpretation of the PES concept for the Wii. If you own a classic controller you can experience this in a fashion similar to the PS2 editions. Had this title supported two player matches in all the modes this would have been a triple A title. Instead it's just a really good soccer experience for the Wii.

Multi-tasking is of great importance in PES 2009, so the game requires some training and time before you get the grip of it. Once you master the controls, the many game modes will offer soccer fans a lot of fun.

Sam B gave it a9:
It's the controls that make this one of the best football games ever. The way you can tell your players exactly where to run and pass gives you amazing control of how your team performs and is incredibly satisfying. I would rate the single player game as the best ever football game EVAR, and this is despite the AI not being quite up to the standards of recent fifa games. The Champions road mode is great fun, and being able to develop and play you miis is cool. Where it suffers, and the reason I'm not giving it 10 is in the multiplayer, and by mulitplayer I mean playing with other friends in the same room as you. This is something the old pro evos on the ps2 used to be fantastic for, and I still measure against player with 3 friends on a multi tap, and the problem is here it doesn't quite work. Player using the wiimote means you can see the opposition arrows and runs. Playing with the classic controller makes it just another football game, where it suffer in comparison to fifa. So, a fantastic single player game, which all football fans should at least give a go, slightly let down by the multiplayer.
