Summary
PES 2010 focuses on enhancing the excitement of matches between players, making for a truly challenging experience that constantly tests the player. Intuitive zonal defending covers spaces and players need to look constantly for new ways to attack. PES 2010 focuses on being a real soccer simulation, as it requires both strategic play and quick reactions, as in real life. In addition to key out-field elements, goalkeepers are more versatile and with abilities matching those of modern shot-stoppers. The game's referees have also been reworked, with smarter AI elements allowing them to make more balanced calls during matches. PES 2010 has undergone a major visual revamp, with its celebrated player likenesses and animations now even closer to those of real-life players - including live player expressions to be depicted with an improved lighting system which differentiates between various conditions! Official Nintendo Magazine UK
Its core is as exciting as ever and the new features justify trading in last year's edition.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 is a great soccer game. The gameplay overall is still pretty much the same, but a lot more has been added. The engine in the gameplay is excellent, and feels a more smooth gameplay. The free kick has improved and the IA of your players is better than last year's edition. Very fun and fantastic gameplay.

Konami delivers an excellent game of football on Wii. Better, a more refined and complete experience than before.

Excellent, in its own peculiar way, but offers little new if you've got PES 2009. [Winter 2009, p.61]

A brilliant brain-taxing alternative to normal PES without sweeping changes. [Winter 2009, p.81]
Vandal Online
This Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 is a good title that football fans will like. Maybe it's not as good as in other consoles, but improves last year games and the rest of the games of the genre in Wii.

It doesn’t bring the same wow factor as the first go-round thanks to its general lack of innovation, but at least the soccer is still very solid and the few changes are most definitely for the better.

The formula is the same of past year, with all the "pros and cons" preserved.

Want a challenging, tactical experience with long-term rewards? Then PES 2010 is the game for you, though if you bought last year's version you may want to give the outlay some serious thought as this year's nuances are few and far between.

Given the youthful glow of PES 2009, the 2010 offering predictably offers little broken ground. [Jan 2010, p.89]
Multiplayer.it
Pes 2010 on the Wii is really a little step forward compared to the 2009 edition; the series seems to have lost some kind of interest by Konami itself, and the result is a product that fails to impress and innovate over the solid exclusive wiimote gameplay.

This game is a good footie for the Wii, but because of the lack of evolution and innovation it failed to be more than that.

PES 2010 forgets to innovate, which is especially disappointing considering that defending is as difficult as it was in previous years due to a lack of real control. However, the game has it’s moments of brilliance when you’re on the attack, which saves it from a sub-par grade.

James T. gave it a9:
Gives me the PES 6 feeling again using the new classic controller pro. The pace is perfect controls responsive and shots more refined. Blows the 360 and PS3 versions away due to the playability. It also makes Fifa feel rigid and predictable by comparison.
Gavin S gave it a10:
its most realistic game you will find the only problem is producers are needing to contact me on how to rate cartain player and especially to do research for em for what legendary players to add such as schiaffino and kubala long forgoten greats
Rob D gave it a10:
This is the best soccer game I've played on any platform.
oldMan Princess gave it a10:
Visceral Virtual Association Footballing that is at least 12 parsecs beyond traditional controller schemes. Awesome.
Pro Evolution Gameplay gave it a10:
Hmm... This game is CLEARLY better, than Pes 2009(which was slighly better than 2008), and HD-business lobbying Metacritic-able reviewers "think" its worse... Someone must be worrying, that HD-bubble might burst if people notice how little soccer(and every other game for that matter) games has evolved with last gen controllers, in 20 years... This is best soccer game in this generation, until Wii Pes 2011. Where is the Gameplay over graphics discussion now?
