Summary

(Currently available in the UK/EU only) On the war-torn, poisoned atmosphere of Nu Earth, Rogue Trooper is a genetic infantryman, one of an elite squad of biologically-engineered clone troops, created to overcome the planet's hostile atmosphere, unhindered in their fight against the enemy, the Nort Republic. After witnessing the betrayal and annihilation of his squad at the Quartz Zone Massacre, Rogue has gone AWOL, determined to hunt down the traitor who sent his brothers-in-arms to their deaths. Armed with the latest experimental weapons, Rogue's arsenal offers him a critical advantage over his opponents; encoded bio-chips containing the digitised personalities of his fallen comrades are stored in his gun, helmet and backpack, each offering their unique expertise and assistance, allowing Rogue to strategically outwit a sophisticated enemy. The game is a mix of intense 3rd person action and next generation stealth elements, with complex line-of-sight AI, multiple game paths, full tactical use of your bio-chip operated equipment and both single- and multiplayer online gameplay. Games Master UK

A ballsy shooter with great ideas, all of which have been borrowed and done better elsewhere. [May 2009, p.69]

Nintendo Life

Rogue Trooper stands out for two big reasons: it's one of very few decent third-person 3D action games on the Wii and it's a good quality game based upon a licensed property.

VideoGamer

The team at Rebellion (and Reef, who handled the Wii version) have crafted a tactical combat game that hits the target so often that slight wavering every now and again can easily be overlooked. It would be easy to dismiss Rogue Trooper as the game where you play as a blue man with a talking gun, helmet and rucksack, but that blue man deserves a place in your Wii collection.

NGamer UK

Not particularly original or polished, but we found it hard to put down. [May 2009, p.58]

3DJuegos

The blue man is back on the scene porting his fast action and simple playability.

AceGamez

Saying whether Rogue Trooper: Quartz Zone Massacre is worth picking up is tough, as while I undoubtedly had fun with the well executed controls, which utilise the best aspects of the Wiimote and nunchuck to their full potential, the game just doesn't have that overall polish that is needed in such a competitive genre.

SpazioGames

Rogue Trooper: Quartz Zone Massacre is fun and replayable. Overall quality is good, but it lacks in innovations and online functions. A good game, but not perfect. Any Wii owner should consider this game: it could be a surprise or a delusion at the same time.

Multiplayer.it

Rogue Trooper is not a bad game, it's just a shallow porting of an average third-person shooter that's going to appeal neither to hardcore nor casual gamers.

Vandal Online

Ultimately, Rogue Trooper: Quartz Zone Massacre is an interesting title for those players not used to the genre, who are only looking for a temporary action game to fill their Wii game library.

XGN

When you're looking for a good third person science fiction game for the Wii, this is the title you should get. Although it contains a nice single- and multiplayer experience, the game only lasts for a few hours.

Official Nintendo Magazine UK

About as fresh, innovative and welcome as a "Last of Summer Wine" re-run. [Apr 2009, p.66]

Meristation

Dave Gibbons' masterwork is back on the scene with a fair adaptation of the original Rogue Trooper. Same action, graphics and storyline fora game that has a lot to say even thought its a short adventure. We'll get through it in less than 8 hours- and without an online multiplayer.

Cheat Code Central

The campaign is fairly enjoyable if you can manage to cope with the iffy controls, peppered with a good amount of stealth, tactics, and even rail-shooting segments.

Stuart T gave it an8:
If you know the original comic character it's a lot of fun; if you're coming to it blind it's still got a lot to offer... If you actually want a game for the Wii rather than family entertainment you'd do well to get this.
