Summary
The sun is out, the fish are biting and your tackle box is filled with 20 different types of lures. With content created exclusively for the Wii, you'll motor out, find your favorite fishing hole, cast off using the Wii Remote and snag one of four types of bass. When you hook a fighter, your motion sensor will let you know, so hang on and enjoy the ride. Four fun-filled modes. Arcade, Tournament, Practice and Nature Trip modes. 15 stages. Find your favorite fishing spot in seven brand new stages created exclusively for the Wii, or re-live your glory fishing days in four classic arcade and four Dreamcast stages. Four types of bass. Hook four breeds of bass: Florida Large Mouth, Red Eye, Small Mouth and Northern Spike Large Mouth. Reinvention of a classic. This classic title first made a splash in the arcades and now the gameplay and graphics have been updated for the Wii. Authentic simulated fishing experience. New features have been created to take full advantage of the Wii Remote, including driving the boat with the control stick and reeling in your fish with the motion sensor. [Sega]

Aside from the more natural controls afforded by the Wii Remote, Nunchuk and one new gameplay mode, SEGA Bass Fishing's Wii debut doesn't tread any new water.

It's great for quick bursts, it works as advertised, and it has that "one more game" addictive quality.

It's a shame that SEGA opted for a simple port rather than properly updating the series, but this is still a fine game - if extremely niche in its appeal.

I'd happily blow a couple quid on this game down at the amusement arcades, so why not pay a bit more and own it? It's a good catch, all things considered!

The controls and the lack of a career mode and no multiplayer options do leave quite a bit to be desired, but all in all it is a very fun game that does a good job of recreating the fishing experience in your living room.

Various lures like to be jerked and jiggled at different speeds, but it’s still pretty easy for any gamer to pick up and start snagging bass in only a few minutes.

Sega could've put more effort into making this a completely new game, rather than a simple port. With that said, it beats the crappy alternatives, so don't throw this one back.

While it might not be worth the asking price for veteran Sega Bass junkies, this is a great opportunity for all you would-be Wii fisherman who happened to miss the boat the first time around.

SEGA Bass Fishing can still provide some mild entertainment, even if it is basically a Dreamcast game with Wii controls. Despite its fair share of flaws, it’s the best currently available fishing game on Wii.

We're putting our foot down. Please Sega, no more 10 year old ports. [Apr 2008, p.81]
n-Revolution Magazine UK
Still decent fun on the Wii, but it hasn't advanced during the decade since it appeared in arcades. [Issue#21, p.84]
Games Master UK
Solid fishing challenge, but even considering its arcade heritage this isn't anything special. [May 2008, p.80]
GameTrailers
Sega Bass Fishing does a lot of things right. It's easy to pick up and play, yet tough to master, and it emulates the art of fishing quite well thanks to the Wii remote.

I really can’t believe that they didn’t include a multiplayer option. The option of competing with other people would have really made this game a whole lot more fun.

SEGA Bass Fishing is actually not that bad. For newcomers the game will be tasty. People who have played the game before will not find this one anything more special. If fishing is your thing then this title will be fun to play. For a fishing game on the Wii, this is your best choice.

All in all, it’s not a bad game, and certainly is a better catch than other fishing games in the market.
Tired fishing puns aside, Sega Bass Fishing is a tasty, if dated and flawed kettle of arcade angling.

Want a title you can dip in and out of for quick sessions or have a passing interest in fishing as a sport? Maybe you should head to the store and reel in Sega Bass Fishing.
SEGA Bass Fishing is a game that needs no introduction, as most people (gamers, at least) will probably have heard about this game series at some point in their life. The Wii iteration of the title is a good throwback to the 90s, but is ultimately a little tired and needs a revamp.
Despite a selection of new courses and modes, this feels dated. The tournament mode is enjoyable, but with no multiplayer you'll struggle to have a reely good time.
Although publishers like SEGA shouldn't slip into a habit of shoveling their old games onto the Wii with minimal updates, SEGA Bass Fishing does provide a satisfying solo experience at a budget price.
This shallow fishing sim offers nostalgic fun for a moment, but its dated look and lack of new features make it a hard sell.
Read Full Review >Video Game Talk
Talk about a blast from the past. SEGA Bass Fishing harkens back to the days of the Dreamcast and when arcades were still clinging to life. This Wii port barely changes the original formula which turns out to be unfortunate in regards to the presentation.
There are some minor tweaks here and there for this Wii remake, most notably the use of the nunchuk for reeling in the lunkers, but nothing that stops this game from being extremely dated and lacking in content and variety.
In the end, unless you're really into bass fishing or want a throwback to the Dreamcast days, Sega Bass Fishing isn't worth your time. [Apr 2008, p.88]
games(TM)
The Wii Remote – while no substitute for the original Dreamcast controller – is extremely responsive, and it’s still immensely satisfying to land one of the bigger fish. [June 2008, p.120]
BigPond GameArena
If fishing in your underpants is your idea of a cool way to kill some time, or you’re just trying to get your dad into playing the Wii you could do a lot worse than Sega Bass Fishing. Otherwise I’d kiss this one and throw it back.
The controls aren't as specific as a fishing game's controls could be expected to handle.
Sega Bass Fishing is worth a few quarters in the arcade, no question, but just doesn't cut it over the long haul.
