The Simpsons Game features a hilarious, sprawling, and mind-busting storyline crafted by the TV show's Emmy Award-winning writers. The action-comedy also features the full cast of voice actors from the TV show who reprise their roles for the game. In The Simpsons Game, Homer, Marge, Bart, and Lisa use exciting, all-new powers to save the world from rising chaos. To help the Simpsons, gamers at home must journey through all of Springfield (as well as vast worlds beyond!), vanquish an amazing array of villains, and fight their way through parodies of popular games. If nothing else, this playful romp packs enough in-jokes for both Simpsons fans and gamers in general that it’s definitely worth playing through at least once.

Gamer 2.0
In the end, what you are presented with is a very solid Simpsons title. Its humor, as stated, goes beyond just pleasing regular and hardcore Simpsons fans. So aside from the camera, the game is just find-diddly-ine to go on out and pick up.

Untimately, though, The Simpsons lives and dies on the strength of its gameplay and here it doesn't particularly shine. [Nov 2007, p.64]

For the two or three evenings that this will last you, there’s enough going on to keep you pushing forward to the end.

Official Nintendo Magazine UK
It'd be the finest licensed game ever if it wasn't ruined by the anti-climactic ending and an atrocious camera. Sadly, all the humour in the world can't really fix that. [Christmas 2007, p.70]

Cheat Code Central
The gameplay is not the best of the best, but the creativity and wit that has been put into it does it all.

The chuckles along the way make it worth the trouble for fans, but if you don’t know Arman Tamzarian from Disco Stu, most of the game’s redeeming elements will fall on deaf, bored ears.

IGN
The Simpsons Game on Wii falls short of its next-gen brethren because of mediocre controls that cause unneeded deaths throughout the game.

Console Monster
Overall this a game that somehow manages to avoid the usual join-the-dots approach of other film franchises. Although it never quite lifts itself above a pretty average game, at least it proves along the way that it knew what it was and was happy to laugh both at itself as well as the games industry at large.

GameSpot
The Simpsons Game is exceptionally funny, but the hobbled Wii control scheme sucks out what little fun there was to be had with the gameplay.

Kombo
The Simpsons Game is yet another lackluster licensed game. The difference is that this lackluster licensed game has The Simpsons writers and voice cast behind it, meaning that the humor and atmosphere in the game outright nails the source material.

It makes us laugh, but this doesn't make up for the lack quality. Stick with the next-gen. [Christmas 2007, p.62]

G4 TV
If you’re just a casual viewer or not a fan at all, then there’s nothing in the game to warrant your cash. On the other hand, if you are a Simpsons devotee, then the pitch-perfect humor, writing, and look of this game will more than make it worth putting up with the standard gameplay mechanics.

It's all a bit repetitive and distinctly unoriginal. [Issue#17, p.91]

No amount of Simpsons love justifies sitting through this much clumsy mediocrity. [Jan 2008, p.42]

Game Revolution
The Simpsons Game may just be the funniest video game ever, but funny is not the same as fun,and it's just not a very good game. I found myself wanting to finish the game just for the humor, even though I was screaming at the TV after falling down the 10,000th pit or when the camera showing me the wall again while i get killed.

It's too bad the execution fails so miserably, because many of the ideas are great. [Holiday 2007, p.85]

Gamestyle
It may have all the wit and style of the series, and Simpsons fans will no doubt love picking out all the references. With no effort put into caring about how the game plays, however, it means that you might not be able to actually play the game enough to get them all.

Carl N. gave it a4:
The original Bart vs the space mutants platform game was more playable than this!!! The camera angles will frustrate you to no end, the wii control potential goes missing, the gfx aren't flash, and 2player mode doubled the pain.

Larry S-A. gave it an8:
I don't see why people are being so hard on this game. I found it fun, innovative, and absolutely hilarious! Any time where the game slips up, (poor camera, short game) the comedy makes up for it, with tons of great refrences, and flawless voice acting. If you are a simpsons fan, this is a must!!!

[Anonymous] gave it a5:
Funny, maybe, but a terrible camera, bad controls and generic gameplay (beat up enemies, jump, stand on switch) means that the minute long cut scenes just cant account for another shoddy license.

Billy S. gave it a1:
Are you kidding? This game blew chunks after the first jump into the chocolate river because the camera was pointing at the ground. Crap and double crap.

Spanish B. gave it a1:
Owned this game for a grand total of 90 minutes - got it home, attempted to play it, screaming in frustration, walked back to the store, got my money back. If I can say anything positive, it's this: at least I got some fresh air returning it.

Sean R. gave it a1:
Except for the voice acting, everything about this game is ill conceived and horribly executed. A slipshod camera, poor level design, and sloppy controls dictate the difficulty here. Further, inexcusably crude graphics and listless sound production only add to the frustration. Possibly the worst Wii game of the year!

Nick D. gave it a2:
Probably the worst camera in any game I have EVER played. The co-operative mode was awful as it just involved the 2nd player standing on switches. I must of died about 20 times on the same jump because the camera wouldn't straighten up. Avoid.
