Skate It has Nintendo players riding with the skate pros, owning the best spots in San Vanelona and pulling off the sickest tricks using the popular FlickIt controls. Loaded with all-new gameplay features, Skate It breaks new ground by introducing innovative support for the Wii Balance Board which gives players a fresh way to create their own signature skateboarding style. Skate It unleashes the FlickIt revolution on to the Nintendo platforms, letting gamers use the Wii remote or the Nintendo DS stylus to string together their best tricks for the ultimate skate line. The Wii remote becomes a skateboard and reacts to gestures that mirror actual skate flips and moves. Players can also deepen this experience by planting their feet on the Wii Balance Board. Skate It brings the Skate franchise to a new level of creative ingenuity and gameplay excellence. [Electronic Arts]

Skate It comes highly recommended. The original Skate rejuvenated skating games with a new control scheme and a real sense of freedom, and that success carries over to the Wii.

This is a game that will appeal most directly to the Wii's casual market. But anyone who enjoys an innovative game should spend some time here. In staggering their releases on Wii and 360/PS3 EA have certainly kept Skate in the public eye.

Skate It is a solid entry in the franchise and it really couldn't have been done any better for Nintendo's motion-controlled console.

Concerning tricks you will have to face a big challenge: The Balance Board got divided into six regions and two pressure levels. Invest a few hours and you will feel the ultimate skate experience.

Even if Skate It isn’t the perfect skateboarding game, EA has delivered a solid game on a system that definitely needs innovation and something else than just dumb mini-games. While the game has a daunting learning curve and some average graphics, the game is worth checking out as it will find a nice and warm place in your Wii game collection.

Like we said, if you look at Skate It as a place to screw around and have a little fun on a skateboard you’ll have a tremendous time. It’s not a particularly complete game in any other sense. One for real skating fans, for sure dudes.

Skate It has got it where it counts. The developers have made good use of the Wii controls and provided fans of skateboarding games a much needed change of pace. If you’re interested in a reason to drag out that little-used Wii Balance Board, give Skate It a shot.

While the quick menus help you get on your board as soon as possible and the camera never gets in the way of your next trick, this game would have benefited so much from better controls that didn’t cause you to miss rails and slam into walls.

Skate It offers a serious experience of this extreme sport. The Skate's intuitive control won't be for everyone and the graphics need to be improved too. With patience and effort this game can provide a great experience for players.

A risky game with a control system based on the movement and the Wii Balance Board. The best skaters will see in it a different proposal and a quality game for Nintendo's console. But there are also problems and frustrations with that system.

This is about as solid a next-gen port as we’ve seen on Wii, but it’s probably going to take an act of God to make us think a downscaled port is better than the original. Other than an earthquake, we mean.

The game is plenty big enough to satisfy even very demanding gamers, but I would be concerned about those controls. Not everyone wants to spend too long getting to know a difficult control system, these days. Often, immediacy is key and this is a step away from plug and play.

EA's latest skateboarding foray, Skate It, does a lot of things right and a lot of things wrong. The only part of the formula that truly impresses is the controls, everything else is limited by the technical limitations of the Wii. Skate It does share a lot of what made the original Skate great, but if you want the full experience you're better of with Skate for the Xbox 360 or the Playstation 3.

And that's a small taste of the poor control scheme. The slightest twitch or turn of the Wii-mote creates a wholly new effect -- and frequently, it's one you don't even want. It's even worse on the Wii Balance Board; by default, the turning is overly responsive, even after reducing the board's sensitivity. However, this makes it harder for the device to register a trick.

You won't be buying this game for its (un)exemplary graphics or "innovative" control method, but if you're prepared to sink hours into it, there's fun to be had.

Nice idea ruined by slow and inaccurate controls that is Skate It for Wii. Every move, every trick -doesn’t matter if pad or wiimote is used- is a true pain in the a**. [Feb 2009]

VideoGamer
Skate It is better in theory than it is in practise. We can forgive the awful Wii Balance Board controls because you're not forced to use Nintendo's Wii Fit peripheral to play the game. But we just can't get away from the fact that EA's focus on creating a hardcore skater sim has resulted in a frustrating experience, for no other reason than the Wii itself isn't built for that kind of game.

There will surely be a great skateboarding game for the Wii, perhaps with the next iteration of the balance board, but this isn't it.

As with the original Skate, Skate It manages to feel authentic and it comes with some sharp ideas. But the game's presentation and control just don't pan out, and it seems like a game that'll frustrate players more often than not. If you're a Skate fan looking for what's next, do yourself a solid and wait for Skate 2.

Mike J. gave it a9:
This game rocks. nunchuk/wii remote combo is easiest.. I beat this game already with that. Wii remote on its own and board are way harder but i am definately improving at both, plan to beat this game usin all 3 control methods graphics do have jaggies, but overall yu dont notice, cause the skateboard has the focus, not th rider, you almost forget about the rider as you work on sequences and lines with the board...IGN has it right, 1up must have issues, deep hatred of skating or something.

Andrew C. gave it an8:
If I could give this a 7.9 I would. (It's just not a perfect 8) This game is great. THERE IS A SHARP CONTROL LEARNING CURVE. I would suggest playing this game in freeskate for awhile to get past that. Once you have gotten past the controls, which work well once learned, the game is Good. Not excellent but a sturdy G-O-O-D. Even though this games multi-player modes are not incredible, I have had many great hours playing this game with a friend in career mode. The Replay feature (slow-motion, rewind etc.) and the ability to save replays adds alot to this game. Overall, The game is fun and my Wii will be seeing alot of it but the learning curve + the two horrible introlevels can be frustrating. Worth a play but PLEASE, play more than an hour. It gets very involving once you get it down.
