Summary
Based on the 2007 live-action feature film, Transformers: The Game lets gamers control the outcome in the battle for Earth as they choose to protect it as Autobots or destroy it as Decepticons. Players experience the unstoppable power and massive scale of their favorite Robots in Disguise such as BumbleBee, Barricade and others. As the Transformers robot's war comes to Earth, gamers make the choice to join the Autobots in protecting our planet or to join the Decepticons in destroying it. With dual campaigns, the fate of the world is in players' hands. Instantly change from a larger than life robot to a high-powered vehicle such as a sports car, fighter jet or helicopter. Players crush, topple and wreck every object, including buildings and vehicles, in their path or use the objects as weapons. An unprecedented line-up lets gamers experience the massive scale, unique abilities and sheer strength of an army of characters from the Transformers universe when they choose to play as Optimus Prime, Megatron, Ironhide, Starscream, BumbleBee and more. For head-to-head battles, fans engage in melee combat that reflects each Transformers robot's character, scale, weight and power along with melee weapons and special moves unique to each character. The game's ranged combat offers a wide array of projective weapons designed to take out enemies from afar. [Activision]

Transformers doesn't make any radical changes to the classic action game genre, but it does have likeable characters and top-notch production values, coupled with enjoyable gameplay.

An exciting, wild ride of explosions, falling buildings, and cars tumbling end-over-end through the air. But, behind all the noise and confusion, it’s a shallow, short, and simplistic game.

It’s about on par with all other movie licensed games: relatively short, decent graphics, decent gameplay, and not much value to it.

Despite all of its glitz and movie inspired hype, I just can’t recommend this game as a purchase, and a rent is iffy too.

Transformers: The Game for the Wii featured fine graphics, and the mission objectives weren't that bad, but the controls really killed the entire experience.

The boss battles are another frustration since you can never actually hurt the boss at first. You have to throw something at the boss several times before the boss is weak enough so you can attack it.

The way better controls make this our favorite console version, but it's still not great. Transformers: The Game should be a sleek, cutting-edge sports car; instead, it's an old beater whose driver's seat has a spring sticking out in exactly the wrong place.

A fully-destroyable environment makes for a ton of collateral damage during fights, and nearly any piece of the environment can be picked up and used as weapon should the need arrive. It’s simple, shallow, but still entertaining at times. This may not be the Transformers game we were hoping for, but it has its moments.

Traveller’s Tales have been making good games for years – but they’ve also had some stinkers and unfortunately, this one lies somewhere in the middle. While it’s not a bad game, there are too many shortcomings that keep it from greatness.

Sadly, the beauty is only skin deep, and the core content of the game is really a disappointment. The game is very short and the missions are poor.

A mixed bag of control issues and good looking effects that amount to a fair game.
Similar to most Michael Bay films - graphically intense, but shallow in terms of character and story. Add to that boring combat and you have a game good for fans of the upcoming movie only, though not even Transformer fan in general.

A dream come true for '80s kids. But where's the game? [Oct 2007, p.66]
Nintendo Power
As it turns out, though, that's not enough to make up for sloppy controls, frustrating camera issues, and repetitive, uninspired game design. [Sep 2007, p.85]
Extreme Gamer
Transformers: The Game is an average showing with a lot of potential that was wasted by the limited plot line of the movie, repetitive mission objectives and a faulty game engine.

Paying $60 to play through the movies story is just too high a price to pay for a mediocre adventure game.

This game could have been so much more. The skeleton of a great game is here, but nothing comes together.

I can't imagine anyone but diehard fans going to these lengths. Everyone else should stick to Atari's game that's based on Transformers Armada -- it's still the best way to wage a battle to destroy the evil forces of the Decepticons.
The lack of diverse missions, along with the insipid gameplay and taxing camera system results in a watered-down experience -- not quite "more than meets the eye".
Lastly, Transformers: The Game is incredibly short, and doing both the Autobots and Decepticons campaign will only take a mere six hours or so to finish.
The real tragedy here is that a simple attempt to emulate Atari's 2004 Transformers game would have made this movie tie-in an order of magnitude better. As is, those looking for a Transformers fix should scour the bargain bins for that classic, and leave this one on the shelf.

There are a few good ideas sent to die here, and the overall premise of the game is great, but it's all mired in technical problems and awful mission design.

To say that Transformers: The Game is anything short of broken would be a lie.

You can't transform a turd, no matter how hard you try. [Oct 2007, p.89]
GameShark
The clumsiness of the controls makes combat a somewhat uneven experience.

Transformers should never have made it past Activision's headquarters and it should never find its way into your Wii's drive.

This is defenitily one of the worst games i ever played. That camera is ridiculous!! it is really annoying when i played the game! The voice acting was also bad,I was forced to turn the volume up so i could hear it!! Gameplay is also boring and repetitive. And the game has only like: 6 levels in each storyline! that's to short for a game that costs 60 dollars! Also sometimes the levels were to difficult, especially in the autobots racing levels.(not to mention the driving was horrible!) So conclusion: Do not buy this game it is horrible don't waste your cash buying it!
Evan gave it a0:
The camera just flat out killed this game, plus Activision already proved with Ultimate Alliance that they can make a Wii port with good camera control.
Sam gave it a7:
The game is an entertaining diversion, a passable rental that you will probably have little interest in playing again. Graphics: The Transformers look decent, but the entire game looks like you're playing the 360 version with blurry eyesight. The smoke effects look good...if the game was cel-shaded. The explosions are decent looking. Sound: The effects are good. The dialouge and voices are not. For the transformers, during the cutscenes, it sounds like they were sitting 5 feet away from the microphone and have a cold. Controls: the scheme is decent enough, and it's pulled off in a good enough way. However, sometimes it's extremely clunky, especially for the airborne decepticons. The camera could be better as well. Gameplay: As I mentioned, an entertaining diversion. It gets frustrating here and there, and you could tell it was rushed. But if you're bored one day and at your Blockbuster with nothing else to rent, or if you're at a store in a couple years with only 5 dollars and see the game in the 5 dollar or less bin, give it a look.

You love to destroy stuff, you love the movie, the game is worth it. It takes a while to get used to it, though, but its a really cool game.
Rod K. gave it a0:
This game is is rubbish, the camra is really bad and it makes it to hard to play , ive never played a game with the camra angles like this , it destroyed the game, if the camra angles would of been better the game would of been ok, dont buy this game its a waste of money, if you want a top game get resident evil 4 wii edition, 10 out of 10, as for transformers its in the bin and thats the best place for it!!
Isaiah D D gave it a0:
This is by far the worst game I have ever played it is a disgrace to gaming I hope I never have to play this again. This is just another company looking for people to buy a game because it is based on a movie.
Haydn B. gave it a10:
This game is awesome!!! you get to be awesome robots with cool designs and in an enviroment where one shot at building could cause serious damage. My favourite part about the game on wii is that you get to make up your own style of punches. My Favourite character in this whole game is Megatron, in my view he has the best design and is the most lethal. Another good part about this game is that in the Decepticons game it turns out that the end of the game is the opposite of the movie!
