Summary
Delivering the fun, excitement and teamwork of championship cheerleading, We Cheer utilizes full-motion based controls to let players dance to the music of 30 licensed songs. Putting players at the center of a nationwide cheerleading competition, We Cheer utilizes two Wii Remotes as virtual pom-poms to create an authentic cheerleading experience. Players must move the wireless Wii Remotes as directed by the on-screen indicators to choreographed routines, utilizing a full range of arm and body movements such as spins and twists. As each routine is successfully performed, the player recruits new team members to their squad, adding new cheerleading abilities and choreographed routines. The first cheerleading video game to offer licensed music, We Cheer features 30 smash-hit master recordings for players to perform to, including tracks from Hilary Duff, Aly & AJ, The Plain White T’s and Natasha Bedingfield. Letting friends and family participate in the cheerleading fun, We Cheer features cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes for up to four players to determine who deserves to stand at the top of the pyramid. The game also features a workout mode that lets players keep track of approximately how many calories they have burned while cheering. Each character in the game is fully customizable, with a variety of uniforms, shoes and accessories to choose from for added personalization. [Namco Bandai Games]

We Cheer is an excellent and novel take on creating a game that utilizes Wii's motion controls for something intuitive and unexpected.

Overall, We Cheer's challenging gameplay is exhilarating. However, it does shatter preconceptions about the game. We Cheer can't be played casually and it can't be played carelessly. It's plenty of fun, but whereas Wii Sports was happy to have you simply move, We Cheer challenges you to perform.

If you happen to be a real cheerleader or someone who dances a lot, then We Cheer is a great buy. (However, it also means you likely already do this for free.) It's also a great buy if you like rhythm games and you have lots of stamina.

We Cheer isn’t too extravagant in game modes or innovative gameplay, but it’s an excellent diversion for a weekend.

It veers between demanding precise movements and accepting vague waves. [May 2009, p.78]
Video Game Talk
One look at the cover of We Cheer and it's far too easy to skip right past it on the way to another rhythm game, but that would be a mistake, especially if you're looking for a challenge, as few games offer such a solid mix of difficulty and song selection.

I would have enjoyed the game even more, however, were it not so brutally difficult. [Dec 2008, p.96]
Hardcore Gamer Magazine
While We Cheer is certainly no Guitar Hero, it would be deemed enjoyable to many who appreciate similar games in the music genre.

It won't appeal to anyone over eight. [Apr 2009, p.83]
GamePro
If anything, I can't help but see We Cheer as a missed opportunity. The game is filled to the brim with personality and has something for everyone on its rather impressive track list, but the gameplay itself is simply exhaustive trial and error routines that leave you with a sour taste in your mouth.

It had potential but at the end of the day it just doesn't work. This really needs Wii MotionPlus.

We Cheer's so unresponsive, in fact, that I spent four hours in championship mode, trying to beat the easiest song -- Hoku's "Perfect Day" -- to no avail. It's a fate I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

Katie E gave it a1:
this could have been a great game, but a) - Was very unresponsive b) - aftercompleting at least one song in each area it unlocks new place to go but unfortunately then locks all the previous areas to the same songs, very frustrating, I tried it out twice to the same problem Very disapointing
mature ballerina gave it a10:
This game is hard. But there's always a choice actual full-body, dance dvds OR games - frankly there has never been a dance game that's this hard and possible to do all at once. People complain becuase they can't do it in 3 tries. This game has 30 dance routines that are all over a minute long. That's amazing. The music is great. The cheering is solid and you need to take time to do it, but what a great 'game'.
