Summary
WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2008 lets players take the fight into their own hands with the debut of Superstar Fighting Styles. The game features eight unique styles, each having its own strategy and exclusive attributes. A brand new Struggle Submission System gives players intuitive and natural control over their WWE Superstars by using the game's popular analog controls. Realism and strategy are at the forefront, as players now control the amount of pressure they apply to their opponents. In addition, WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2008 features a significant Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) presence, including a variety of Superstars, arenas and weapons. The game is also packed with significant updates requested by fans, including new rosters, more environmental hotspots, a combined Season and General Manager Mode experience, improved out-of-ring action, enhanced online community support and much more. Games Master UK
A good start for Wii SmackDown - with a bit of tweaking, this could be a smash hit. [Dec 2007, p.45]
NGamer UK
Ignore the fighting's mechanical edge and this is about as good a shot as wrestling has at reaching a wider audience. But wrestling fans, beware - this probably isn't for you. [Christmas 2007, p.60]
Cheat Code Central
Its too-simplistic controls and marred visuals really ruin any shot it had at being a great game for the Wii.

I had never felt so frustrated in a wrestling game until I played this one.

Fans will certainly love the slams and finishing moves using the Nunchuk and Wiimote, but the lack of match types will disappoint the more hardcore fans. Still, those looking for a different and more interactive version of the game should definitely pick this one up.

Smackdown! Vs Raw 2008 is a good game with no frills. It follows the Wii’s motto of everyone can play, and multiplayer is just too much fun. But with this many features missing from the Wii version while all the other versions have so many different match types and wrestling styles, what were THQ thinking?

There aren't very many moves to go around, so most of the characters feel the same, and the action gets repetitive faster than in the typical wrestling game. [Dec 2007, p.84]
Worth Playing
Overall, it is a defining step backwards in regards to the SvR franchise.

So basic and cut-down, THQ might as well have called it "My First SmackDown." [Christmas 2007, p.90]
AceGamez
I finished playing WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2008 feeling cold and dirty, like I'd been doing something I shouldn't have been. I'm shocked at how badly THQ have dropped the ball with this one - in fact, they've climbed all the way to the top of Mount Everest to drop said ball!
In setting out to make a wrestling game for people who don't like wrestling games, THQ has turned in a game that nobody will like.
It had a chance, but the rushed nature of the product, the dismal production values, the lack of variety, and the odd privatization of gimmicks over fundamentals make the game a failure in pretty much every regard.

Tim B. gave it a4:
They should have renamed this game "How fast can you shake your remote?". There is absolutely no strategy to this game other than shaking your remote faster than your opponent. You get a good workout but the fun factor of this game goes away very quickly. Also, the graphics leave a little to be desired... The online demos for this game greatly exaggerate how much fun it is to play it and also overplay the amount of control you have over what your character does. In the end... I would say save your money and wait for a more interesting version of this game to come out.
Ben L. gave it a3:
Awesome accuracy to the entrances, but the controls take a lot of time gettinig used to. I rented this and played as the Great Khali vs Kelly Kelly and got my butt kicked! What's up with that??? Avoid buying this. Too many controls for the wii.
