You will not believe how exciting this game is. Burnout features the kind of on-the-edge-of-your-seat action that made movies like "Speed" a success.

There will be times when you get so frustrated you'll throw the controller down in frustration, but 5 minutes later you're picking it back because the game is not only challenging, but fun.

Provides the most intense street-racing rush I've ever experienced in a video game. [July 2002, p.124]

An arcade racer with tight controls and graphics, plays great and a blast to watch.

A colorful and stylish game that is blisteringly quick – if a bit technically dated. [June 2002, p.76]

This is a fantastic game and is worth buying, but don’t be surprised when it burns out of replay value a month down the line.

While lacking in substance – primarily cars – Burnout excels in delivering edge of your seat racing. [June 2002, p.83]

A dedicated gamer can beat Burnout in a weekend's time, so only purchase it if you're planning on enjoying the well-done two-player mode and unlocking the extra goodies like the extra vehicles.

There's enough meat on Burnout's bones to provide an engaging, albeit unoriginal, take on arcade racing.

If it's depth you want you'll be disappointed, but if you want to lose yourself in a high-speed car chase or force your buddies into a head-on, this one's for you.

The crashes are a great gimmick, but after the first couple of hours the replays become more of a nuisance than a positive effect.

Armando D. gave it a1:
This isn't anything like Burnout 3... this game sucks... i think it has only total 4 vehicles... details sucks... etc doesn't have the same feeling as Burnout 3.

Janus M. gave it a 6:
Does not come close to Gran Turismo 3 in detail. The crashes while cool at first get old quick and take too long to play out. Would have been a good game on a PS about 3 years ago. Today it's cliche and lacking. I don't see why anyone would buy this over Gotham Racing or GT3 if ya have a ps2.

Ben L. gave it a 10:
Simply one of the best racing games.....ever! Its not as refined as PGR but is a great deal of fun, never slows down no matter how many cars on screen. For fun but Burnout over any other.

Jim L. gave it a 9:
Great fast action with incredible crashes. Tons of fun...

Josh J. gave it a 10:
It tiiiiiiiiiight.

Merx gave it an 8:
Pure arcade fun. Not too complicated. A few flaws are present but nothing serious. Great game for those of us who just want to drive way to fast in traffic. Love the crashes!!!!
